use the photon on a non-sprint network eg. in another country.......if yes.....do you experience the Sleep of Death and Random Reboot problems.....??becaose as far as i have read the threads i think the problems are seen while connected to sprint's network or while returning to sprint's network after roaming i.e. while switching networks.......

"The attery is not really dead but rather the phone is just not recognizing it", etc.., etc...,...The hardware problem that I believe is the root cause of all or most of these issues is the battery connection to the phone... People have taken their phones back for another one only to have the same issues with the new one... They have factory reset them, deleted apps, downloaded the update thinking it would fix these issues... I bought my phone 09/03/11 and within an hour of purchase it random rebooted and later that evening completely shutdown requiring a battery pull to reboot... The next day it shutdown 3 times requiring a battery pull... Usually when I just sat the phone down face up.. I believe the battery is separating enough from the contacts when in certain positions to cause these disorders... My phone never did this while recharging because it had a steady power source... That along with those who were experiencing full charge to low charge moments later led me to this conclusion... Happy to report I have for my phone at least eliminated the problem.\
THE FIX: Simply snap in your battery with the phone face down making sure its snug... Simply apply a strip of electrical tape next to the kick stand where the contacts are located... The tape should extend about a 1/4 inch either side of the battery... This secures the battery from moving in the contact area... The Micro SD a Sim card slots are at the other end of the battery and are still accessible... This back cover is not really effected and in fact it only makes it more snug... This fix has completely eliminated reboot & shutdown problems on my phone... Until Motorola factory fixes this issue, this is the best next thing... My EVO had tape all over under the hood and if you do it right it looks factory
So I picked up 2 Photons yesterday from RadioShack. Overall, I am very impressed with the phone, however my wife's is randomly rebooting, and will not turn back on without disconnecting the battery or plugging back into the wall. I have seen a few reports of this online and was just wondering if there is a fix or if I should take it in for a trade? Kind of worried if mine will start doing this also. No SD card installed, no taskmanager, not rooted, etc

View 12 Replies View RelatedAnyone used or using Drive First?I installed it, was using it, but just too much for me, I already use a car dock, motospeak and bluetooth.(Yes, trying to be safe).It just does not intrgrate well with Google Voice.Anyway, it seemed to install an app when I signed up for it, the app is called Smart Device Manager.After cancelling Drive First it continues to lock my screen when the car moves.I figured out which app is is, but the only available option is "uninstall updates" and it keeps wanting to re-update the app after I uninstalled updates. I have uninstalled updates and reinstalled a few times, but it seems that app is dug in there, and won't leave.Because Sprint customer service has NO CLUE (after 4 reps) how the app works, or how to get rid of it?

They also will only give you 14 days to try phones instead of 30, ETF's are now $350. Unlimited Data will soon be gone replaced by Data Caps and Bandwidth Throttling.What's funny is I just spoke with a Retentions Manager and he told me that the e-mail came out 30 minutes ago and how did I know about it already. I told him the Webz is a Blaze with the news already. They want to be Verizon and AT&T with lesser service (Data Speeds), their 3G is a Joke compared to the other 2 and 4G (WiMax) is no where near LTE. He claimed they will have LTE, but that will take forever and a day. I have had a Tower down by my house for 2 months now and need an Airwave just to get 3G service in my house.

I HATE the iPhone and wish it stayed far away from Sprint.Looks like the Bionic is in my near future. I just bought the Photon too. Guess I will eat the OLD ETF as I am still Grandfathered into that one and go with Verizon.
It rebooted itself once and was fine. Then the screen flashed to a sprint logo and its stuck with the yellow word 'NOW' (like advertisement) on the screen. I've tried plugging in and toggling the power button. I just got this phone and still am figuring it out. Also the notification light is flashing a pink color as well.

I am not sure if any of you are as upset by this as I am, but it does not appear that I will ever be able to use WiMax in my home area (Directly north of Indy). The only possible redeeming possibility is if the Photon can be upgraded to LTE via software fix (similar to the Xoom). I have heard talk from multilple forums that it may be compatible since it has a sim card and that there is LTE in the build.prop file.
View 14 Replies View RelatedSo i bought a motorola photon 4G from ebay 5 days ago and had it shipped here to New Zealand. I'm loving the phone but there are a few problems.
When i first switched on my phone (i got it today) it said contacting network, faor quite a while. I was patient and thought this was becuase it was the first time switching on this device. Then it said it couldn't activate the device (sprint). Fair point, because the network was not setup.
So after a while i was able to setup New Zealand's vodafone settings and got my 3G connection working and had data working too. I then swithced off the phone ad turned it back on again. This time it still could not connect to the network and now my settings don't work. Calls and txts work but my data doesn't... not anymore.
Also is there a way for me to get rid of sprint's activation process when i boot up the phone?
i woke up to yet another issue today, i love my phone, so i am trying to be patient. Today the screen will not go to sleep/time out. i checked the settings, it was still set to one minute, so i changed it to 30 seconds ..didnt help. I did a battery pull.Screen on. I still can manually put it to sleep with the power button, but this is not good.Its sucking my battery life!

Whenever someone sends me a text message including a photo, I receive a text from '9000' indicating that the person (phone number only-no name) has sent me a picture message, and prompts me to click on the Sprint picture mail website link to view the photo. Once I click the link, and the site finally opens, the picture is visible. Because the text is sent from 9000, I can't reply to the sender of the message by hitting 'reply,' because I would be replying to 9000. I called Sprint about this MMS issue, and they told me it's because this is a GSM phone. I'm hoping there is some setting or configuration that needs to be adjusted to allow my incoming picture messages to appear properly

The second was perfect up until the new OTA where I had issues with 4.5.91 installing and it was replaced with an upgraded Atrix with 4.5.91 already installed.he current one is rebooting twice daily and it's getting a little old. My question is where to I go from here? I have to be able to be contacted 24/7 for work, and got my peepee stepped on last time. So I cannot wait for an exchange.Can I reinstall 4.5.91 somehow and start from scratch? I've tried the factory reset and every combination of installing and uninstalling various apps I have. Even went a few days with not restoring any apps! I'm really thinking this may be software related, but could be wrong!

View 8 Replies View RelatedJust got my Photon a couple weeks ago. Not too long after setting it up I started having issues with the screen not completely waking up from sleep. I'll press the power button to turn on the display and unlock the phone, but only the blacklight turns on. So the bottom four buttons light up and there is a slight glow the the main screen. All I have to do to fix the issue is turn off the screen then back on and it works. It's not too inconvienent but I get the feeling this isn't a feature I bought the phone for.
Also important to note when the backlight comes on I can still operate the screen, just blindly. I get haptic feedback and can navigate to certain areas.I've tried a uninstalling certain apps, turning off pocket detection, and ultimately a factory reset. Nothing works.
Searched around the web and hofo and can't really find an anwser..Got an unlocked bell 9700 running 5.0 firmware and the screen just randomly goes white.
Anybody know what the issue is?It should be under warranty still but I bought it used and don't use Bell as my carrier.
I am having a problem with the phone randomly generating key selections. When I unlock the phone, the phone wil start vibrating at apparently randm intervals as if one of the 4 key selections on the bottom of the phone has been selected. When I am in an app, or trying to use the settings, etc. these selections block the use of the phone and in effect lock/freeze the phone. I have the following apps downloaded:The google maps (Sprint pre-installed link)The Sprint Football App (Sprint pre-installed link)Solitaire - from the android free apos market.USBank app from a USBank provided link.he problem manifested itself prior to the installation of the USBank App. When I am running the solitaire app, the search key, which is set to turn the next card is selected as is the return/back key. I can watch the cards change in response to the vibration activity. Also, when I am on a screen where the Search key is enabled as a search key, the search screen will randomly come up. While these keys are being selected, the phone essentially freezes. The reception of a call seems to break through this and it proceeds normally.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe following has been happening since before the latest update, and continued after.My phone will randomly reboot itself (there doesn't seem to be any correlation with what I'm doing) and then hang at the rotating red logo.If I push the power button the display will turn off, but after that no buttons have any effects.If I plug the phone in the display comes back on to the unlock screen, but the touch screen is also unresponsive.The phone is definitely still running though, as my bluetooth headset will reconnect and time-based notifications will still happen (I have the phone set to beep every half hour).If I leave the phone sitting for a significant length of time I will notice it getting warm, and it will eventually reboot again and behave normally.Battery pull does nothing.Wiping the cache partition does nothing.I've done a factory reset before, and this makes the problem go away for a while, but it comes back.

Now the phone boots until it gets into the android operating system, then resets itself. This makes me VERY nervous for two reasons. I don't want to be stuk with a hone that reboots constantly, and more importantly, I sell them and don't want to have to tell everyone I've sold to that I've made a mistake. Is there a fix for this other than a hard reset?

View 6 Replies View RelatedEver since I have had this phone (Since the first day it was available) I have never really had a great experience with the GPS on this phone. The problem is very random, basically at some point I will try to use a app that uses a GPS location like Gas Buddy and it will report a location from hours or days previous. Most of the time I can turn off the GPS and turn it on and it will work. But some times I need to reboot the phone. In addition to the that problem if I am using Google navigation, Telnav or Waze it will make a look and start navigating then states it lost GPS and it never gets it back. At that point I have to reboot the phone as nothing else will work to resolve the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with my Motorola photon 4g since I bought it (2 months old now). It may reboots when I am trying to make a phone call. It happens everyday randomly and it is getting worse. If one day I need to make an emergency, I may need to wait a few minutes for it to boot up (lol) before I can use it. I have used Palm treo phone for many year and never have any problem. I went to sprint service center and the sprint technician reset it but it still has the same problem. I will come back to Sprint again for service. FYI, I will update this post soon I have more info.

I just updated my HEX MEID in this forum profile. My phone did the initial reboot but came back with Update Failed.Update Motorola Software says. An Update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete. There is no indication anything is happening. It's been this way for close to an hour now.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've got some random reboots after upgrading on stock Lollipop 5.1 on my Nexus 5.I've used Android 5.0.1 without any reboots or problem, but after upgrading on 5.1 I'm facing many random reboots when I switch from an app (like a game or Hangouts) using Recents or Home button from NavBar (it also happens randomly when I'm using my phone, like writing a message on Hangouts).The reboots I'm talking about are not "soft" but "hard", because bootloader's logo (Google) appears and restarts my phone, so it is caused by Kernel Panic (as you'll see in my last_kmsg) and they occured on both stock and custom rom.
