I am on my 3rd Photon - Sprint is ordering another one as each has been defective. I am tired of the hassle - are other people experiencing this? I have sworn by HTC, and the specs on the phone were excellent, but it's been a nightmare! How can 3 phones all be defective? I live is San Diego and work in Los Angeles.
View 15 Repliesi bought a photon at best buy today, carried it around for a while, installed the netflix app, brought it home, plugged it in, and after i tell it to install the system update, it downloads, i click install, and it shuts down immediately, starts itself back up, and then as soon as everything comes back up, i get a message that says update has failed. this has happened 3 times now, downloaded on wi-fi
View 12 Replies View RelatedAnyone used or using Drive First?I installed it, was using it, but just too much for me, I already use a car dock, motospeak and bluetooth.(Yes, trying to be safe).It just does not intrgrate well with Google Voice.Anyway, it seemed to install an app when I signed up for it, the app is called Smart Device Manager.After cancelling Drive First it continues to lock my screen when the car moves.I figured out which app is is, but the only available option is "uninstall updates" and it keeps wanting to re-update the app after I uninstalled updates. I have uninstalled updates and reinstalled a few times, but it seems that app is dug in there, and won't leave.Because Sprint customer service has NO CLUE (after 4 reps) how the app works, or how to get rid of it?

I have found that there seems to be no correlation between the signal strength (in dBm / asu) in Settings -> About phone -> Status and the signal bars that are shown. Often the signal bars will shoot from 1 to 5 or 6 even with really low signal ( ~97 to > 100 dBm) that doesn't fluctuate.

View 10 Replies View Relatedurl..Sprint is doing away with their Premiere Program (for Gold Members) and if you don't use it by Dec 31, you loose it. They also will only give you 14 days to try phones instead of 30, ETF's are now $350. Unlimited Data will soon be gone replaced by Data Caps and Bandwidth Throttling.What's funny is I just spoke with a Retentions Manager and he told me that the e-mail came out 30 minutes ago and how did I know about it already. I told him the Webz is a Blaze with the news already. They want to be Verizon and AT&T with lesser service (Data Speeds), their 3G is a Joke compared to the other 2 and 4G (WiMax) is no where near LTE. He claimed they will have LTE, but that will take forever and a day. I have had a Tower down by my house for 2 months now and need an Airwave just to get 3G service in my house.
This is what happens when you get the Darn iPhone. It's the Carrier Killer. They think their Crap does not stink now. I HATE the iPhone and wish it stayed far away from Sprint.Looks like the Bionic is in my near future. I just bought the Photon too. Guess I will eat the OLD ETF as I am still Grandfathered into that one and go with Verizon.
It rebooted itself once and was fine. Then the screen flashed to a sprint logo and its stuck with the yellow word 'NOW' (like advertisement) on the screen. I've tried plugging in and toggling the power button. I just got this phone and still am figuring it out. Also the notification light is flashing a pink color as well.

I am not sure if any of you are as upset by this as I am, but it does not appear that I will ever be able to use WiMax in my home area (Directly north of Indy). The only possible redeeming possibility is if the Photon can be upgraded to LTE via software fix (similar to the Xoom). I have heard talk from multilple forums that it may be compatible since it has a sim card and that there is LTE in the build.prop file.
View 14 Replies View RelatedSo i bought a motorola photon 4G from ebay 5 days ago and had it shipped here to New Zealand. I'm loving the phone but there are a few problems.
When i first switched on my phone (i got it today) it said contacting network, faor quite a while. I was patient and thought this was becuase it was the first time switching on this device. Then it said it couldn't activate the device (sprint). Fair point, because the network was not setup.
So after a while i was able to setup New Zealand's vodafone settings and got my 3G connection working and had data working too. I then swithced off the phone ad turned it back on again. This time it still could not connect to the network and now my settings don't work. Calls and txts work but my data doesn't... not anymore.
Also is there a way for me to get rid of sprint's activation process when i boot up the phone?
use the photon on a non-sprint network eg. in another country.......if yes.....do you experience the Sleep of Death and Random Reboot problems.....??becaose as far as i have read the threads i think the problems are seen while connected to sprint's network or while returning to sprint's network after roaming i.e. while switching networks.......

Whenever someone sends me a text message including a photo, I receive a text from '9000' indicating that the person (phone number only-no name) has sent me a picture message, and prompts me to click on the Sprint picture mail website link to view the photo. Once I click the link, and the site finally opens, the picture is visible. Because the text is sent from 9000, I can't reply to the sender of the message by hitting 'reply,' because I would be replying to 9000. I called Sprint about this MMS issue, and they told me it's because this is a GSM phone. I'm hoping there is some setting or configuration that needs to be adjusted to allow my incoming picture messages to appear properly

As a side note, I called sprint, and they told me it was removed with the last update. That doesn't make any sense to me.

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy kid was playing with my phone and got into one of the sub menus (*#*#4636#*#*). While in there he selected phone info>menu>select radio band. It shows "Set GSM/UMTS band with a choice of USA band (only choice). After that it went into GSM mode. I tried to make a call and got the GSM network message. I couldn"t figure how to get out of it, so I called sprint. They had me pull the battery while they did something on their end. After they had me turn it back on, but it won't provision and connect to the network. I got the msl out of them and manually entered the MIN and MDN, but I still have no signal and can't activate it.

I use EDGE conn to saves battery, everytime i make or receive calls i lost the edge during the calls, when i end them the edge comes back on, and i have to log everysingle time i enter the net with cerberus, is not worth it. what happend if i lost my phone and the phone is not logged in Cerberus? Crappy app. I wanna know a good free app that only depends on GPS track, i let my tablet and my phone with gps on. Since then mywife's photon is dropping calls signal in our house.Both phones have full bars when not maling a call. When you dial anumber my wifes phone looses all bars and cannot make a call. My phone still has one bar or so it works. The data connectionworks perfectly (texting etc.). Wife's phone also works at other locations. So, I presume something has happened to the signalat the house but why does my phone work better? Is data and phone signals differ like this? We have been using Sprint phones

Is this normal for a PHOTON? I would rarely roam at work before but find the photon signal roams alot. Is there a setting or something I can do? Maybe a bad phone? My home signal also tends to wildely fluctuate between one bar and five bars.

If i place or receive a call within a few minutes it drops with no record of the call. The internet is the same i will have 4g service and then it will crawl. I have to keep the phone still to maintain the signal. if i even move my hand the signal is gone.I know it is not sprint cause my wife has a diffent phone and it works perfectly she is chatting away on it all day never had a signal issue. went the spint salesman and he didnt understand why it was doing that. All the salesman suggested is that I do a factory reset and lose everything on the phone. I dont want to lose some games i paid for. Mine seems to hang at night (seemingly about 20min after I plug it in for charging) and stays on yesterdays date and time until somehow it corrects itself the next day. The phone reboots itself sometimes when I try to make or receive a phone call (2 or 3 times a day). I know this is happening to other Photon owners and I already tried the factory reset twice.
