Motorola Photon 4G :: No MMS When Roaming/no Data Message?
Oct 5, 2011I have all the maintenance releases and it still happens. I've tried changing the APN but no go. This applies to roaming in areas I've always been able to send MMS and basically says it wants a data connection even though I have roaming data set and working.

Oct 16, 2012I saw similar questions in the forum but none of them had a working answer and I tried all the different solutions and none of them worked.Also none of the other threads described the issue exactly as I am going to describe it below:When spending the entire day within WiFi signal or when disabling cellular data, my phone lasts for 16+ hours with at least 30% battery leftThis includes normal use of the phone - some browsing, some talking and some playingWhen out of WiFi signal and with cellular data enabled (i.e. phone is on 3G) without using the phone at all.
screen is locked the whole time, the phone heats up and battery is drained within 2 hoursLooking at CPU usage when the phone heats up shows that the only component using relatively a lot of CPU is "Android System" but always less than 50%Looking at the battery usage "Display" and "Phone Idle" are always on topThe interesting part is looking at data usage - On the instances that the phone was heating up while on 3G and not doing anything with it (no application is running and the phone is locked)"Contacts"application is always on top with about 1MB of data usage per hour and no other application is even close to itAs an experiment I removed all the accounts from my phone so that I have no contacts at all and no server to sync or try to sync the contacts with and the result was the same - phone heats up, battery drained and Contacts is on top of the data usageMy conclusions from this are that the reason for the battery drain is usage of 3G data and that the Contacts application is the one in charge of the data usage.
Motorola Photon 4G :: GSM Frequencies Wrong On Data Sheet?
Aug 31, 2011The data sheet [URL] shows the GSM frequencies as "GSM 850/900/1900".
The Sprint box for the Photon 4G shows the frequencies as "The GSM frequency band of 850/900/1800/1900" and adds "The UMTS frequency band of 850/1900/2100" (instead of WCDMA). I presume if the Photon could handle HSPA+ it would be mentioned by Motorola Mobility or Sprint.
Given the importance of the 1800 GSM band througout the world, shouldn't the Motorola Mobility Data Sheet be updated? (Given that Sprint is correct)
Motorola Photon 4G :: Data Not Working After PRL Update Check?
Oct 28, 2011After I update the PRL on this phone my 3G data stops working for anywhere between 1 minute and 5 minutes. It's like the phone completely loses contact with the EVDO network for up to 5 minutes before it wakes up and finds the signal again. Never happened on previous phones. Another firmware bug? Not a big deal but thought it was worth mentioning.

Sep 28, 2011Last night when I turned on my wifi at home, the wifi and phone signal bars appeared but were gray and I had no internet/data connection. I checked the wifi settings which indicated I was connected with good to excellent signal. Toggled the Wifi on and off several times, and turned phone on and off, which did not work. Went into wifi settings and told it to forget settings and reconnected, same result. When I turn off wifi, 3G appears and data connection is restored. Left the phone on in the media dock all night, and this morning when I turned on wifi, all was fine. What does gray signal bar mean?

Jul 31, 2012my ATRIX 4G toggles from UMTS to HSPA and back all the time. i see that on the mobile network type under settings--> about phone--> status.
After each of these toggles the mobile network state (same status menu) is connecting (and then connected until next toggle)
i suspect this phenomena to be the reason that my internet connection is unstable (disconnected very often). I'm using original ROM w. MotoBlur of course. any way i could just disable the HSPA and check if the UMTS is enought ?

Jan 24, 2012using Photon 4G with Airtel prepaid sim with system version 45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en, Whenever I run short codes (USSD codes) like *123# to check my prepaid GSM balance or interact with service provider by *121# it takes long time showing USSD code running.. and after few mins either shows MMI successfully complete or MMI failed but doesnt actually show the text which is shown in my other GSM phones; to query balance or activate some service. Tried forums but no concrete solution.

Mine seems to hang at night (seemingly about 20min after I plug it in for charging) and stays on yesterdays date and time until somehow it corrects itself the next day. There is no way to "activate it" or make it correct itself. All other clocks and calendars are correct.

Jan 9, 2012I have a major issue with my corporate exchange calendar. If I accept an invitation to a meeting, the phone makes me the organizer of the meeting. This syncs back to my corporate calendar. This is obviously completely wrong. If I delete the meeting on my phone, or on my computer, it sends out a message to everyone that was on the meeting saying that it was cancelled. If I need to adjust the meeting only on my calendar, it sends out an update to everyone. It has caused a lot of confusion for me and my work colleagues.

Oct 28, 2011Has anyone seen / experienced this? When I have my photon in the car dock and using the GPS, I am unable to receive incoming calls. My girlfriend has called me for the past three days and she says my phone rings and rings and goes to voicemail. I have Sprint Service. I am not using TeleNav or any other navagation, I am just using the GPS mode and Bluetooth is also running. I dont have any other issues with not receiving incoming calls unless its in the dock.

I did a full factory reset about a month ago. the last couple of days the phone has been freezing with the alarm. the alarm will go off and I might get one or two snoozes out of it then the display freezes and is unresponsive. O can push the power button to get the power off menu but the screen will not respond to allow a power off, I must remove the battery to reset the phone.and as anyone who has a Photon knows how much fun putting the back on is. Any ideas.again this is a pretty fresh reboot and I do not have near as many apps running as before the reboot

Sep 16, 2011Anyone used or using Drive First?I installed it, was using it, but just too much for me, I already use a car dock, motospeak and bluetooth.(Yes, trying to be safe).It just does not intrgrate well with Google Voice.Anyway, it seemed to install an app when I signed up for it, the app is called Smart Device Manager.After cancelling Drive First it continues to lock my screen when the car moves.I figured out which app is is, but the only available option is "uninstall updates" and it keeps wanting to re-update the app after I uninstalled updates. I have uninstalled updates and reinstalled a few times, but it seems that app is dug in there, and won't leave.Because Sprint customer service has NO CLUE (after 4 reps) how the app works, or how to get rid of it?

i get spots in my home area of bay area, california, but i know this is becuase they are doing the site optimizations here...sometimes, my coverage is absolutely nothing where it was decent before. even though the HSPA+ is supposed to go to 21mb/s, our devices are rated up to 10mb/s on the n900...which is still the fasted available...........

Jun 10, 2012In this thread, 4G referrs to HSPA+, LTE referrs to LTE.Below I'm going to go into detail about the LTE issue with the Lumia 900 on AT&T. This issue is separate from the no data connectivity issue that has already been addressed with an update.The problem: The phone will not reconnect to LTE after you leave the LTE coverage area and come back into the LTE coverage area. Data works fine, but the phone only connects to 4G (HSPA+). You are now stuck with slower 4G untill you reboot the phone or use the airplane mode trick (explained later).For example: I live in a 4G coverage area and work in an LTE coverage area. I go to work and the phone connects to LTE. I go home and the phone drops to 4G like it should since there is no LTE there. When I go back to work the next day, the phone will not connect to LTE. It stays on 4G. I have attached two pictures demonstrating the issue. Picture 1 shows the phone with a 4G data connection even though I have 5 signal bars and I'm in an LTE coverage area. Picture 2 shows the same phone after I reboot the device. I'm in the exact same location, but I now have LTE after reboot.
When does the problem seem to occur? The problem occurs if you leave the LTE coverage area and come back after a few hours. It seems to happen most often after only 2 to 8 hours in the 4G area.I have been working with AT&T engineering for about a month and they have done multiple traces and can't find anything wrong with the network. They see the phone connected to the 4G antenna instead of the LTE antenna on the tower. My moms Lumia 900 has the same problem. My wife has the HTC Titan II Windows Phone with LTE and it works perfectly.Based on my own observations, the issue has nothing to do with the amount of data you use either. During the time you leave the LTE area, the battery may also appear to drain faster than normal. I believe the problem is the phone keeps looking for that LTE signal but can't find it. It then gives up and goes into 4G mode to save the battery but never again tries to reconnect to LTE.
How to force create the problem: I did this 8 miles from the official LTE coverage area. 1) At a high elevation facing the LTE coverage area, I turned on airplane mode while I was NOT in the LTE coverage area. 2) Next I turned off airplane mode. 3) The phone connected to LTE with one signal bar while not in the LTE coverage area. 4) Moments later it dropped to 4G. 5) Then I drove 10 minutes to the LTE coverage area and it did not connect to LTE. It appears the phone saw the very weak signal and locked itself in 4G mode.Temporary fix: To restore the LTE connection, you can reboot the device, or turn airplane mode on and then turn airplane mode off a few seconds later. This of course turns off all radios and turns them back on.
