I've been making it a point to, once a week, go into 'system recovery' and wipe the cache. It isn't to correct an issue that not wiping can create, but rather as maintenance to keep the phone running well. I was curious how often the rest of you wipe the cache?

So, I had horrible battery performance after the update. I figured I would do a cache wipe. Normally this erased battery history, but not this time. The gap is during the wipe. Notice the average slope before and after
I wish they could push an update that doesn't require this crap, but its never happened.

So I had a bit of a close call decided to do a cache wipe after the Lolipop update. Everything ran pretty good before the Cache wipe but there were a few small glitches so I figured I'd do it. I followed all the steps and the screen said clearing cache so I waited. About a half hour later I come back to the phone and it is black so I think it's done. Then the android guy on his back starts flashing on the screen(no command) He only pops up for less than half a second. I know the step after wipe cache was to reboot device which I could not do.

I tried the following:
1. Power off phone.
2. Press Volume Down & Power.
3. Click Reboot to Bootloader.
4. Click Boot to Recovery Mode.
After extensive researching and contacting HTC directly, I found out that I am supposed to get a few options where one of them is 'Wipe Cache Partition'. However, all I get is a black screen for a few secods, then an icon of my phone with an exclamation mark on it. That appears for about a minute, after that the phone reboots.
Any reason that's not working? I'm running Lollipop 5.1 and Sense 7.0.

Here are correct instructions for booting to recovery when on Lollipop. I dug out the change in step 5 from another thread, I believe was the PE Lollipop update one...not sure who to give the credit to, but either way here it is.
1. With the phone powered off,*press*the*VOL*DOWN KEY*for 2-3 seconds then*POWER*key then release.
2. The device will display*different BOOT*OPTIONS
3. Use the*VOL DOWN*Key to SCROLL to*Recovery*and*VOL UPKey to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have*waited to long to make a selection, you*will need to begin the process again.*
4. The device will display*the*Motorola logo and then*the*Android in distress*( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold thePOWERkey for 2-3 seconds.*While still holding*thePOWERkey*tap and release theVOL UPkey
Tip: You can*try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are*stuck on step 6, try a*force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear inBLUE)*
7. Use the*VOL DOWN*Key to scroll to wipe cache partition*and thePOWER*Key to select*this*option
8.*The device will then perform*the partition wipe

I've got a Sprint Galaxy S5, and just did the OTA update to Lollipop. Initially I was getting a notification about a Google Play Services error, and all the icons for apps stored on my SD card were grayed out, but still usable. The Google Play Services error and the icon issue seemed to take care of themselves with a re-start, and everything seems to be working OK now.
I've read here and other places that doing a Wipe Partition Cache after the update often smooths things up and can improve speed, with no risk of losing data. Well, I've tried about a dozen times to do the 3 button press, but all I ever accomplish is restarting the phone. Is there a trick to getting into Recovery, or should I just keep trying?

I wiped my Samsung G5's cache in an effort to speed it up, and after reset all applications crash (I get Report/OK) button options, and the screen is black. Nothing else is happening. I rebooted, I wiped cache again, and nothing. The phone is rooted with Android 5.0 on it, touchwiz.

it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to perform a wipe from Recovery, where in Lollipop and before, it was a few seconds. A couple of websites have corroborated this.what's changed in 6.0 that a cache wipe takes so long? I'm on an unrooted N5 and performed a clean factory flash (and re-locked the bootloader).
Code:
mkfs -t ext4 /dev/[device]
to
Code:
rm -rf /cache/*
Or something, I mean, even formatting a heavily encrypted partition shouldn't take that long (especially one as small as /cache).

I've tried four times now to clear the phone cache according to the directions on Motorola's website. Each time I get to the point where I select clear cache, and after running some scripts on the screen, the fallen down android icon flashes randomly and the phone never recovers. I've let it sit for as long as 45 minutes with the icon flashing and eventually had to turn it off and restart the phone.

I see a lot of discussion about bad battery life. I was experiencing it as well. Clearing the partition cache got me from 50% at the end of the work day to 75%. I think this should be put somewhere for all turbo owners to see as a "get your phone, immediately do this". And stickied. Just a thought and did not want to burry it in the long battery thread.

I have a Moto Maxx XT1225 but I believe clearing the cache partition is the same as the DROID Turbo (it's immediately below my question).
I always get hung up after step 5 (below) - i.e., when I press the up volume 10-15 seconds and then tap the power button, NOTHING happens...no additional menu options appear as listed below for step 6.
FYI, here's steps 1-6 as mentioned above:
1. With the phone powered off,*press*the*VOL*DOWN KEY*for 2-3 seconds then*POWER*key then release;
2. The device will display*different BOOT*OPTIONS;
3. Use the*VOL DOWN*Key to SCROLL to Recovery*and*POWER*Key to select;
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have*waited to long to make a selection, you*will need to begin the process again.*
4. The device will display*the*Motorola logo and then*the*Android in distress*(logo with Exclamation mark);
5. Press and hold the*VOL UP*key for*10-15 seconds.*While still holding*the*VOL UP*key*tap and release the*POWER*key;
Tip: You can*try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are*stuck on step 6, try a*force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear in*BLUE);

I have the Arix 4G running Gingerbread 2.3.4 on AT&T. However, I cannot access the "Settings" menu option on the phone. It is not listed in the "All Apps" list and when on the home screen, pressing the menu button then "Settings" does absolutely nothing. I've factory reset the phone, twice externally.
I can't get any more phone details as the menu is inacessible. how else I can get the settings menu functionality back?

The sales literature for the RAZR MAXX HD promised the inclusion of "government-grade encryption" and a "remote wipe application" that would allow me to locate and remotely wipe the device.I was able to encrypt the phone under Android's Security settings menu, but I do not see any application or setting to enable remote wipe. Similarly, when I sign into Motorola's online customer portal, I do not see any options for locating or wiping the device.Finally, when I attempt to sign in at [URL], I get a response saying that no devices are associated with my account.how to access Motorola's "remote wipe" application as described in the product literature (as well as the "government-grade encryption", if different than Android's native encryption).

I have the multimedia base (desktop cradle) for my Droid X. Every time I click on the 'home' button it goes to the home screen for the MultiMedia Base, and not the regular Droid home menu. This is a pain, because every time I want to use an app, I first have to press the 'X' on the MultiMedia home screen to get to the regular Droid menu.The worst thing about the Multimedia menu, is that on many phone calls I recieve while the phone is in the Multimedia base, when I 'X' out of the menu, it goes to the Droid menu and not to the Answer Phone window...by the time i get to the menu to answer the phone the caller is gone.

I just got my Droid Turbo last night and I love it. Coming from an S3 its amazing! I only have one thing I cannot figure out. How do you add another tile to that drop down menu? I want to add volume control as its the only thing missing that I use all the time. It's driving me nuts because at the moment the only way to silence my phone is to hold down the volume key. I went through all the settings and didnt see the "notification drawer" option anywhere.

Love my RAZR Maxx however something I've noticed (I've had Moto Droid/Droid2 and HTC Incredible) is that when scrolling (like email or web pages) my finger must barely touch the home button (or the back/menu/search buttons) and my scrolling gets interrupted by the button function. It seems much more sensitive than any of my other phones.Anyone else have this issue or am I the only klutz? Maybe there is a setting to change sensitivity but can't find it.
