Galaxy S5 :: All Applications Crash After Cache Wipe Plus Black Screen?
Mar 28, 2015
I wiped my Samsung G5's cache in an effort to speed it up, and after reset all applications crash (I get Report/OK) button options, and the screen is black. Nothing else is happening. I rebooted, I wiped cache again, and nothing. The phone is rooted with Android 5.0 on it, touchwiz.
I've got a Sprint Galaxy S5, and just did the OTA update to Lollipop. Initially I was getting a notification about a Google Play Services error, and all the icons for apps stored on my SD card were grayed out, but still usable. The Google Play Services error and the icon issue seemed to take care of themselves with a re-start, and everything seems to be working OK now.
I've read here and other places that doing a Wipe Partition Cache after the update often smooths things up and can improve speed, with no risk of losing data. Well, I've tried about a dozen times to do the 3 button press, but all I ever accomplish is restarting the phone. Is there a trick to getting into Recovery, or should I just keep trying?
I am writeing to ask how to solve a problem i am haveing its a black screen and the device dose not connect to desktop software and i tried app loader and it dont respond there i have a black berry curve 9320
I have a big problem with my phone, there are some days my screen had three vertical white line on certain colors, like this : URLs....But with time the problem is worsened, my screen is totally crazy, i can't explain, juste look the video. URLs....This problem is in bootload too: URL....
1. Power off phone. 2. Press Volume Down & Power. 3. Click Reboot to Bootloader. 4. Click Boot to Recovery Mode.
After extensive researching and contacting HTC directly, I found out that I am supposed to get a few options where one of them is 'Wipe Cache Partition'. However, all I get is a black screen for a few secods, then an icon of my phone with an exclamation mark on it. That appears for about a minute, after that the phone reboots.
Any reason that's not working? I'm running Lollipop 5.1 and Sense 7.0.
Here are correct instructions for booting to recovery when on Lollipop. I dug out the change in step 5 from another thread, I believe was the PE Lollipop update one...not sure who to give the credit to, but either way here it is.
1. With the phone powered off,*press*the*VOL*DOWN KEY*for 2-3 seconds then*POWER*key then release.
2. The device will display*different BOOT*OPTIONS
3. Use the*VOL DOWN*Key to SCROLL to*Recovery*and*VOL UPKey to select
Tip: If the device reboots, you may have*waited to long to make a selection, you*will need to begin the process again.*
4. The device will display*the*Motorola logo and then*the*Android in distress*( logo with Exclamation mark)
5. Press and hold thePOWERkey for 2-3 seconds.*While still holding*thePOWERkey*tap and release theVOL UPkey
Tip: You can*try this step, holding the phone in landscape. If you are*stuck on step 6, try a*force reboot by pressing the Power key and Vol Down key, and start the process again.
6. The device will display additional menu options (Text will appear inBLUE)*
7. Use the*VOL DOWN*Key to scroll to wipe cache partition*and thePOWER*Key to select*this*option
8.*The device will then perform*the partition wipe
After my new X2 started to loose it's mind, I decide to try a cache wipe:Power off Power On Holding Home Key When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select Wait for it to finish and select reboot system?
I've been making it a point to, once a week, go into 'system recovery' and wipe the cache. It isn't to correct an issue that not wiping can create, but rather as maintenance to keep the phone running well. I was curious how often the rest of you wipe the cache?
So, I had horrible battery performance after the update. I figured I would do a cache wipe. Normally this erased battery history, but not this time. The gap is during the wipe. Notice the average slope before and after
I wish they could push an update that doesn't require this crap, but its never happened.
Nexus 5 taken a while to wipe cache partition? It takes a good minute or 2 on the nexus 5 but on the nexus 4 it takes 2 seconds. Both are running Android 4.4.2 the nexus 5 and the nexus 4.
So I had a bit of a close call decided to do a cache wipe after the Lolipop update. Everything ran pretty good before the Cache wipe but there were a few small glitches so I figured I'd do it. I followed all the steps and the screen said clearing cache so I waited. About a half hour later I come back to the phone and it is black so I think it's done. Then the android guy on his back starts flashing on the screen(no command) He only pops up for less than half a second. I know the step after wipe cache was to reboot device which I could not do.
it takes about 5 - 10 minutes to perform a wipe from Recovery, where in Lollipop and before, it was a few seconds. A couple of websites have corroborated this.what's changed in 6.0 that a cache wipe takes so long? I'm on an unrooted N5 and performed a clean factory flash (and re-locked the bootloader).
Code: mkfs -t ext4 /dev/[device] to Code: rm -rf /cache/*
Or something, I mean, even formatting a heavily encrypted partition shouldn't take that long (especially one as small as /cache).
The first time it took about 10 mins. 2nd time failed after 30 mins and I had to restart. 3rd time just took 25 mins but completed. What's going on!?!?!
Open facebook via the fb-app. Go, for instance, to an unilad article with a videoclip. Click on the link and a new page opens with a video from youtube. Click the play button and the video starts and no problem. Click the full screen icon and turn the phone to the side and the video maximizes and fills the screen and stops almost immediately. Reset and clear cache for the apps involved and the video (and all other videos for that matter) runs for a minute or so then the phone hangs fully. Have to remove battery as phone is unresponsive. How to look for the reason for this? Videos do not freeze if not maximized. Videos directly on youtube/vimeo does not freeze.
Phone Samsung S5, latest update, running videos on high capacity wi-fi only.
I dropped my phone and cracked the screen and now the screen is all black. I went through insurance and received my new phone. I've deactivated the old phone and activated my new phone. I've been reading other responses for a similar problem but it seems like most of them have not activated the new phone yet and were able to wipe the phone using the Android Device Manager. Since I've already activated my new phone, if I use ADM it finds my new phone and not my old phone.
Is there a way to wipe the data off of the old phone with a broken screen after I've already activated my new phone?
all applications, even those of the system, crash after a few minutes of use. I did several times to restore with backup. In addition, the battery consumption is very high.
for about 15 minutes my Galaxy S6 smartphone won't respond. The screen isn't responding at all. There is just a small cross visible on the right side... Which is really really weird... I tried to restart the phone with the volume down and power button... But it restarted (I guess, as the Samsung Logo appeared) but it went back to the non respond behaviour.Because I'm afraid that I won't get it back to work.
Basically my phone just stopped working (which is what i thought at first) but it's actually responding to my password (which is just the shape of the letter N) which is good because i just backed up all my important files onto my laptop, also my notification light is still working.
I was in my chrome browser and I held my finger down by accident, then all of a sudden my S5 screen re-sized its self and had black around it, tried hunting through every forum for an answer but cant seem to find one! I can get back out of it by going "full screen" but it keeps happening and I'm wanting to know why!
I have had my Samsung Galaxy S5 since January and over the past week it freezes for a minute then the screen goes black and it won't unlock and the only way to get it working is to take the battery out and reboot the phone but when you let the screen lock the same thing happens?
I got my GS5 last week, and I'm loving it, but it have one issue that bugging me. This issue don't happen often (only 3 times since I've got it), when I put my phone to sleep, and wake it back on, the two soft buttons on the bottom of the screen (back and multi-tasking button) lit up, but the screen does not, I have to force to take out the battery and put it back in, turn the phone back on then it would work.
I did called the store i got it from, but they don't have any more s5 in stock , and Samsung won't replace mine (what kind of customer service is this?), the store I got it from said they have to see the issue with their own eyes to be able to exchange me a new one, IF there will be any new S5 coming in for the next week or so.
my screen won't lit up upon waking the phone but the 2 buttons on the bottom of the screen lit up normally.
If i love something on my GS6 is amazing screen, specialty true black color which gets truly black by shutting down pixels. so this happens every time, but not on lock screen. When I set black lock screen the black color is not truly black anymore and the back lid light is seen. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. (its kind of disturbing to have black lock screen and home screen and when unlocking phone u get so clearly different color) - you can even try it out yourself and give it some feedback what u think of this here is link to the black wallpaper; BLACK WALLPAPER.So if any of you know how to fix that or this is something that cannot be done and i just have to say bye to true black color on lock screen?
I slept past my alarm because my Verizon S6 in white 64gb decided to go black screen with the flashing blue led light while it was on the charger overnight .
I've searched everywhere and it seems to be common. The reboot isn't working. Volume down and home screen isn't working.
Is there a way to play a video from the internet with the screen black? I just want to hear the sound of the video but not have people see the video I'm watching .
So I had my phone in my pocket all night, with a screen code lock so nothing could be pressed, and when I woke up and took it out everything was in black and white (apps, texts, entire interface). I know this is what happens when you turn on Ultra Power Save mode, but it wasn't enabled when I checked. I enabled and disabled that mode, cleared my cache partition, checked under Direct Access to make sure Grayscale wasn't on, rebooted, and I've restarted a couple of times. Nothing.
Now, whenever I plug my charger in, the screen goes black and it says I've plugged in gear vr and need to downooad apps for it. I can then reboit it by pressing power, home and volume down, but obviously I need to be able to charge it!
I have Galaxy S5 and the other night somebody knocked it out of my hand...it took quite a thud to the floor and since then, the screen is completely black. The phone still turns on and the bottom 2 lights are working and it rings when people call etc. I can't answer the phone though so I'm assuming the touch screen has broken. what I'm worried about is loosing all my pictures. Because the phone has a pattern lock on it, when I plug it into a computer it says that there are no files. If i send it off for repair will they clear the phone? I'm thinking if they just replace the screen then I still get to keep everything but assume they will still clear it?
My phone's screen is completely black, and I really want to get my photos off the phone before I have to switch over to a new one. They are unfortunately not backed up anywhere... any way to get them off the phone and onto my computer without use of my screen?
When I open camera on my s5 it shows black screen and camera does not work. today i have taken it seriously as i was trying to open my camera for a urgent purpose and it did not work. if i do not get it fixed I will throw it away (all android phones) for forever.
