Motorola Atrix :: Fingerprint Sensor In Infinite Loop?
Aug 1, 2012
Its simply is that when I press the fingerprint sensor to bring the screen on, it starts yelling 'Swap too fast/too slow' bla bla bla BEFORE any actual fingerprint scan and it keeps doing it until I pres the sensor again to turn screen off. Tried disabling and enabling it, cleaned the sensor hardware gently but nothing has helped so far........Its Atrix 4G (till 4G i assume all parts will already go, just 4G will be left) on gingerbread 2.3.4...GB version.

I am having a very strange problem with the fingerprint reader. The problem started occasionally, but now is almost permanent. When at the lock screen, without even touching the sensor, I get the message "Swipe was too fast". It will instantaneously flash back to say "Swipe finger sensor", but usually flashes back so quickly to the "too fast" message you can't even see the "swipe" message. This pretty much prevents it from reading my finger swipes, although every once it a while I can break in.
I have tried many power cycles, pulling the battery, cleaning the sensor, all with no luck. In fact, I can do a clean power cycle, never touch the finger sensor at all, and when it finishes booting, it is already in the infinite loop. I even tried forgetting all fingerprint settings and re-registering, and most of the time as soon as I got to the screen to start reading my swipes, it would register all illegal swipes even before I ever attempted one. (After many tries, I was able to finally get through the re-register step).
To me it very much feels like a hardware issue with the sensor, but I'm wondering if anyone has seen anything similar as my searches have not turned up anything quite like this problem.
I have a fairly stock Atrix, build 4.5.91, with a decent share of apps, but no lauchers, lockers, task killers, and nothing in the auto-end list.

I have a Razr HD on Fido in Canada, due to the horrible stuttering it had it was suggested I do a hard reset to fix it. After doing the hard reset, it's now in an infinite loop of the android update logo (green android with the spinning blue thing), then the motorola logo, then a black screen.

Just purchased a used Curve 8530. Previous owner could not remember the password so after going through the process of too many tries and a wipe of the system, the phone now will not boot up. Get an hour glass and then a quick screen flash before it starts the same routine. When I try to connect to Desktop Manager it keeps connecting and dropping so I am unable to reload software.

One morning my torch 9860 didnt start and ended up in an infinite restart loop, the LED turns red for 6 seconds then is goes out, and then again red LED then goes out. Screen is always black. I've tried with JL_cmder and BBSAK but it wont recognize the device. I tried to catch it with AppLoader, and I can do the UNKNOWN PIN thing, but then when the JVM is starting to initialize again it will go into an infinite loop again.

I got an OTA update notification for 5.1 I downloaded and pressed install. It prompted me for a restart which i did. My phone has a setting which required me to punch in screen lock code everytime my phone restarts. Now, after restarting, it asks me to punch in the screen lock code. After punching in screen lock code, its stuck in boot animation loop ### Read some posts online and they mention " unlocking bootloader before updating. What is bootloader ? How do i check if my boot loader is locked or unlocked?
I tried to boot in recovery mode and it shows me " No command" ... I wiped cache partition through recovery mode- still no luck. It's stuck in boot loop..

Today I received a second-hand iphone 3GS to replace a 4s which I lost.
Upon receipt, the phone displayed an image of a usb connector and an itunes logo suggesting that I need to connect to itunes before use.Â
When I attach the phone to a toshiba satellite C50 laptop it connects and immediately disconnects with an audible tone. This connect/disconnect cycle repeats every second or so and never ends.Â
If I connect the phone whilst powered down, hold the power button and home button together for 10 secs and then hold the home button only to enter restore mode, the phone connects to itunes and I get the option to restore. However, the restore always fails.Â
I have tried connecting using two seperate USB cables - I am not sure if either is genuine. There is no effect.Â
I have tried disabling USB controllers individually within device manager. There is no effect.Â
I have tried different USB ports/ There is no effect.Â
While connected, the phone appears in the device manager intermittently, appearing and disappearing as the phone connects/disconnects.Â
The laptop is running windows 8.Â

I just got a brand new Atrix and tried to set up finger print security. I got to the enrollment screen but nothing happened when I swiped my finger. No messages and no check boxes to tally the swipes. I looked at the forum and there was a long discussion about flakey fingerprint operation but many responses said that a reboot resolved the issue so I rebooted. Sure enough, now when I try to enroll, it recognizes a swipe but then gives the following error "Enrollment Error. You seem to have swiped a finger that has already been enrolled. Let's start over. Be sure to swipe a different finger." So I'm not happy right off the bat! The "Clear stored fingerprints" menu entry is greyed out, so it seems to have captured a fingerprint at the start but not recognized it, and now I can't clear it.

I've been noticing lately my fingerprint scanner getting extremely hot lately. Almost too hot to touch. I've wiped the phone and reinstalled the OS (Gingerbread 2.3.4) and all updates. I've cleaned the scanner with a q-tip and a small amount of rubbing alcohol. I'm not sure what else to try, or if I even should try anything else. Should I just file a claim or is this something that's not covered?

having issues with the fingerprint scanner after upgrading to 4.1.83? I was on 4.1.57, and did the upgrade to 4.1.83 yesterday. This has happened a 3 or 4 times now, where it will no longer register attempted fingerprint scans and I have to unlock with the swipe + numeric code fallback option. It just displays "Swipe finger sensor.", and no matter how many times I swipe my finger, it continues to display that message. I don't get a "Swipe was too fast" or "Finger did not verify...". It seems to just stop working. If I reboot the phone, it works again, until after a while it just randomly stops working again. I have a workaround, but I was curious if anyone else was seeing this behavior after a 4.1.83 upgrade. I found it strange, because the update doesn't mention anything about the fingerprint scanner, but of course that doesn't mean they didn't tweak something with that module.

Just curious what AT&T's thinking was behind the lack of a fingerprint scanner on this phone. For me, that's one of my favorite things about the Atrix. I must be in the minority on this I supppose.

My phone has been stuck in reboot loop for the last 2 days. I had powered it off on the plane and when i turn on...it keeps rebooting itself after the "Rethink Possible" screen ends. I let the battery drain and still after charging it keeps on rebooting. I am running the phone on "Safe Mode" and only able to run basic Android apps like Gmail, Phone, Gtalk, Camera, etc. All 3rd party apps in Safe mode do not work.

My Atrix has the latest update applied and has started recently showing the following error message:"com.motorola.service.main had stopped unexpectedly" Touching ok returns to the home screen for 1 second and the error reappears. This makes the phone unusable.I have performed a factory reset and the error was away for 24 hrs but now it has reappeared.

What is going on with this fingerprint scanner? Â It worked well for the first few months. Â Now It:
Â
1) automatically buzzes and attempts a scan 5x in a row when I press the unlock button then locks the phone and requires pin.
2) does not even show the fingerprint scanner in the diagnostic menu
3) does not allow me to even register new fingerprints - I open the fingerprint software to scan new fingerprints and it closes.
Â
I've attached an image.Â
Â
This has to be a software glitch. I've already resetted my phone and same thing.

Every time I try to unlock my phone with my finger, it keeps saying try again and have to put my passcode.
Then I go to settings to delete the fingerprint and create a new one. So then I let it read my finger, after resting my finger on the home button. After lifting and resting my finger on the home button for about 10-13 times, I get this error every single time. What can I do to fix it? I keep drying my hands and cleaning the home button but that doesn't . On the first day I got the phone, it worked perfectly but in about a few weeks, it's not working correctly.

Seems like ever since I updated to GB, every morning when I wake up and grab my phone and swipe the fingerprint reader, it doesn't respond at all for the first 5, 6, or 7 swipes, or about 10 seconds. Then it will suddenly respond and unlock my phone. Just wanted to find out if anyone else is having a similar problem before I call tech support, and if you were able to fix it somehow.

After the gingerbread update I found that the proximity sensor would quit workng and the only solution was to restart the phone. I found that using bluetooth caused this behavior (repeated several times) by getting it to fail (although not every time) using the following sequence.
1. Power down and restart the phone (so that it was in a known state)
2. Call voice mail to confirm that the proximity sensor was working
3. Turn on blue tooth.
4. Turn off blue tooth. (didn't use it in between other then to connect with headset)
5. Call voice mail and proximity sensor would not work.
6. Cycle power on phone
7. Call voice mail and proximity sensor would work.
My solution was to quit using bluetooth and have not been using since the first week I updated to gingerbread. I did have the sensor quit working one time since but didn't think much of it until my daughter-in-law told me she had the same problem and she doesn't use bluetooth but she does use the speaker phone much more than I do. I believe that both speaker phone and bluetooth functions disable the sensor while in use. Is it possible that it is not always getting re-enabled? I have seen other posts concerning the proximity sensor not working but have not seen a tie to bluetooth use.

I have my device unlocked, not coded - european version. It was all good no problems with anything. Just last night i went to sleep and when I woke up in the morning I noticed this error on my S6:
"An error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor. if this message appears repeatedly, restart your device."
Clearing cache did not work. Nor did the factory reset... Tried running fingerprint test by typing *#0*# on the phone app but it stopped with no result so I guess there must be something wrong with the fingerprint scanner.

I'm enjoying using it to turn the screen on with a verified fingerprint, but find myself at times thinking that long pressing it will also turn it off. Seems like a neat feature, but before I think too much of it, is it something that can be done?

so I've had my Galaxy S6 and the fingerprint sensor has always worked fine. Yesterday it worked great all day long at work, then when I got home, it wouldn't work at all. I rebooted and still it wouldn't work, I cleared cache and data, did the hardware test, and it passed. It still didn't work, so I erased the fingerprints, and retrained my right thumbprint only. Now it seems to unlock with any finger of anybody! As long as they touch lightly, it unlocks about 90 percent of the time.

Clean boot (restart), the proximity sensor works fine (when on call it turns screen off, when moved away from face screen on). As soon as I make or receive call via bluetooth (Motorola brand btw.) The proximity sensor stops working. When on call it will not turn the screen off... Rebooting the phone will fix until a call is made/received via bluetooth. This was confirmed with other Moto phones (Photon...) as well as different bluetooth devices.

I want to buy an ant+ Cadence sensor which is really inexpensive and I'd like to know if I could pair it and use it as a SPEED sensor for my bike. Since a cadence sensor just counts how often the magnet passes by it then I guess they are the same as speed sensor. What would be the steps to complete this? or are the profiles baked in the firmware of the sensors and there's no way for the Motoactv to profile it as a different type of sensor?
