Motorola Atrix 4G :: Proximity Sensor Quits Working With Gingerbread
Aug 23, 2011
After the gingerbread update I found that the proximity sensor would quit workng and the only solution was to restart the phone. I found that using bluetooth caused this behavior (repeated several times) by getting it to fail (although not every time) using the following sequence.
1. Power down and restart the phone (so that it was in a known state)
2. Call voice mail to confirm that the proximity sensor was working
3. Turn on blue tooth.
4. Turn off blue tooth. (didn't use it in between other then to connect with headset)
5. Call voice mail and proximity sensor would not work.
6. Cycle power on phone
7. Call voice mail and proximity sensor would work.
My solution was to quit using bluetooth and have not been using since the first week I updated to gingerbread. I did have the sensor quit working one time since but didn't think much of it until my daughter-in-law told me she had the same problem and she doesn't use bluetooth but she does use the speaker phone much more than I do. I believe that both speaker phone and bluetooth functions disable the sensor while in use. Is it possible that it is not always getting re-enabled? I have seen other posts concerning the proximity sensor not working but have not seen a tie to bluetooth use.
Clean boot (restart), the proximity sensor works fine (when on call it turns screen off, when moved away from face screen on). As soon as I make or receive call via bluetooth (Motorola brand btw.) The proximity sensor stops working. When on call it will not turn the screen off... Rebooting the phone will fix until a call is made/received via bluetooth. This was confirmed with other Moto phones (Photon...) as well as different bluetooth devices.
I've seen this issue posted, but no updates or feedback in a while. While on a call the screen does not turn off, and I am constantly hanging up on people. I have installed the recent update that fixed the no call audio issue, and have rebooted the phone several times. The reboot will fix the problem, but only temporarily. I have also played with the pocket detection setting, and that does not make a difference. I do use bluetooth, and am thinking that it has something to do with it.
I just got a RAZR less than 10 days ago, and sometime over the past few days, I noticed that the soft keys no longer illuminate and the proximity sensor on the top of the phone isn't working. They both seemed to stop working at the same time, and I can't figure why and how to fix it. The soft key issue is not the biggest deal, since I know which ones are which anyway. But the more annoying issue is the sensor not working, so that when I'm on calls and have the phone up to my ear, the screen won't shut off automatically, and turn back on again once removed from my face. It gets quite annoying having to hit the power button every time to shut the screen on and off during calls. Has this happened to anyone else?
Noticing someting wierd with my new iPhone 4 - the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work well (or at all..)When the phone is up against my ear or if I'm cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder the proximity sensor should disable the screen and touch controls until it detects that I've pulled the phone away from my head. My iPhone 3G excelled at this. My iPhone 4 however seems to want to keep the screen on at all times, causing "cheek dialing" issues, mostly trying to initiate FaceTime.
I got my nes iPhone 4s like a month and a half ago. After 2 weeks the proximity sensor stopped working, I took it to my carrier and the held it for a month (they say it was sent to Apple), they said they fixed it but that issue remains. I've tried all kinds of resets but nothing is working,
last week i upgrated my Hardware form 4.1 to 5.1.1. Until this time everythings are ok. On my old firmware my proximity sensor working Good but in my new hardware not working. My iPhone is black and o tried all the things restarted, reset, restored, and turned my old firmware but nothing... Everythings goes the bad. Yesterday in my room and it was so dark i saw on dial screen top the loudspeaker a red light if i close dial red light is closing if dial a number red light is turning on i thing the proximity sensor is working as technique, but not working as software bug what can i do?
Info: iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1, Proximity sensor not working
So I recently upgraded to IOS 8.1.1 and since I made that update with my iPhone 5 32gb my proximity sensor has stopped working and has caused me to face time or end calls or mute conversations with my cheek while on a call. I have done a soft reset, and rebooted numerous times and the problem persists.
I've had an iPhone 3G for one year and a half. I Opened it up a few months ago to change the back cover, which was broken; and I broke a bit the plastic piece of connector 3 of the mother board (see at the Attached image); However, It worked perfectly... Until now, that I've reopened my iPhone to change again the backcover (false covers aren't very good...), and when I finished... Noticed that the earpiece is not working! I can't hear anything while calling! I know that the connector 3 of the screen is the cause, because proximity sensor isn't working neither...
But my question is: Is there any way to know which part of the "connector 3" has been broken? The MoBo, or the Screen Flex? Because if it's the second, I can replace it for a few bucks, but if not... :S Or... Is there any other connector that I could damage or put badly, so they are doing contact with wrong pieces, etc etc? Notice that I had to disarm the whole iPhone to change the cover... So perhaps.
I have just bought a Torch 9800 but am annoyed by the failure of the proximity sensor to detect my face during a call. I cannot say that the sensor doesn't work because when I made a call to myself and use my finger to cover the sensor, it detected it and blank the screen. It also worked when I place my palm near it. However, it never works when I actually put it next to my ear. I think may be it's because I have black hair and blackberry designers never expected that. To solve this problem temporarily, I need to cover the sensor with my thumb during calls but it's uncomfortable to hold the phone that way.
Where the 950's proximity sensor is located? I want to make sure my screen protector isn't covering it. It appears to be to the left of the camera. If that's the case then my problem shouldn't be the screen protector as whatever is to the left of the camera is not covered..
Whenever I dial a number my screen goes black as soon as I hit the call button. It does not wait until I put the phone up to my ear as my 920 and 640 do. I have to hit my power button twice to get the screen back. It's acting as if the proximity sensor is stuck on activated.
my iphone 3g proximity sensor stopped working so i had replace it and then it worked but the light sensor i dn' titried another proximity sensor , it also worked but the light didn't work.Despite of that the first proximity sensor ( the original one ) was working great all of its options the light proximity earphone.so what can i do
I have updated the latest firmware (1600.2487.8107.12070) just a week back. Even now the battery backup is not good enough as boasted by your team. The battery does not even last for 8 hrs. This is the first time am facing such a poor battery backup for a Nokia Device. Though the call end issue is resolved in this update, the proximity sensor issue still remains. The screen blanks out when the proximity sensor is activated while calling and has to be activated again to bring back the normal screen.
Steps to reproduce this issue:
1. Make a call 2. Take the handset near your ear (The proximity sensor is activated now) 3. Move it from your ear (The proximity sensor is deactivated now, but the screen is still blank) 4. Again take it near your ear and release it again (The screen is visible now)
The flip cover I'm using is the Wireless Charging Cover WCR14.I downloaded auto screen off with flip cover, but it doesn't seems to work properly. It does turn off if I cover my finger on the sensor, and if I somewhat close my cover at an angle. But, when I close the cover fully, it turns back on.The apps I tried was Gravity Screen, Auto Screen On Off and Smart Cover Lite.
Getting used to the new look with lollipop but ever since the upgrade my screen goes black and doesn't respond at all during a phone call. Have tried pressing all the buttons but always have to wait until the call ends. This makes it worthless during calls, especially if there is an automated system. The only time it does work is when using Bluetooth.
My X10 with 2. 1 doesn't lock the touch screen when I'm on a call. When I'm done with the call the phone is in various places on the phone book. The phone is set to lock at 2 minutes for various reasons and I don't want to change that only when I'm on the phone call.
During outgoing calls, the screen rarely, if ever, turns off due to the proximity sensor - I need to manually do it using the screen lock button. However, with incoming calls, the screen turns off fine (due to the proximity sensor). For both incoming and outgoing calls, it is often impossible to get the screen to light again once it is off.Initially I thought my proximity sensor might be faulty, but the proximity sensor works perfectly in the diagnostics app. So it seems to be a software issue.
When i make a phone call my screen turns black even though i did not put the phone next to my eat et therefor i can cancel calls. Secondly i cannot make call or text, i cannot make any successfull calls because it says my call barring is enabled, but call barring is currently diabled at the settings.
the proximity sensor works fine when I am on a phone call, (ie: my face does not push any buttons), but when I am listening to a Visual Voice Mail, I am constantly stopping the playback of the message when the screen touches my face. Seems like the screen lock out feature does not work at all in VVM (but works fine while on a call).
Got my Defender the other day. I noticed that when the phone is in the case the proximity sensor stops working. I take the phone out and it work fine. I emailed Otterbox and the guy said to clean the plastic window. Really?? you dont think I tried that before sending the email? I am going to try my brothers case to see if its the case. My brother told me that he had the proximity sensor issue before the case and now his works fine. My last step is to reload 4.0.1 but I have to figure out how to get a video off the phone first.
Seems like the display should turn off when the phone nears my ear, and should turn back on when I bring it back down. Not happening. Other than that, loving it.
If you have read my posts you know that I am now on Bionic #3. Unfortunately this one has issues as well. One of those issues is the proximity sensor doesn't work correctly. It will work for a little while and then a reboot is required to make it work again. If you don't know what the proximity sensor is, it is a sensor at the top of the phone that detects when you have the phone near your face. It will cut the screen on/off so that your face doesn't hit the keypad. It is very annoying and almost impossible to make phone calls with this sensor messed up.
I have noticed that when I start a call and put the phone to my head (or hand above the sensor) that the screen stays on. I do know that the phone's "pocket mode" works, which tells me that the proximity sensor is functioning. Faulty or non-existant software for the phone app?
I am frequently on the water and carry my Droid X in an Aquapac waterproof case. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to use the keypad to enter digits or hang up because the proximity sensor responds to the case and shuts off the screen. If I am quick enough, I can activate the speaker phone before this happens, but it's not ideal for a conversation. For whatever reason, this happened when I first bought the phone, went away with the Froyo upgrade, and is now back again with the Gingerbread upgrade.
after i installed gingerbread for my phone, the light sensor seems to be acting funny. it will light up the soft keys and my keyboard in low light conditions, but once it is pitch black the keys will not light up at all.
