Is there anything I could switch off so that the data usage only increases when I actually DO something?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently moved to android phones and I don't know the OS yet.I have an issue with my new S5. When I am connected to wifi at work, it's constantly downloading something (30kb/s~70kb/s - from Internet Speed Meter), with everything turned off - sync, auto update, back up...
The interesting thing is that only happens when I am connected to wifi at work. Transfer rate is down to zero when I am on LTE and at home, wifi transfer is within normal range. I mostly have download and very little upload recorded by the speed meter. I checked the OS update and it is up to date, so no OS download. I installed battery doctor, clean master and cm security and with everything turned off manually and by these apps, I still have this constant internet traffic over wifi.
Just to make an idea about what I am talking here: over weekend I had 135mb (wifi at home) and only Monday I had 731mb (wifi at work) and 50mb (wifi at home)
When I look at Data Usage, first line is Android OS.
What can I do to stop this transfer? Can it be something from work? Can it be something from my phone? I am thinking to do a factory reset, but the phone is just 1 month old.
Ever since I first got the s6 a couple of months ago it is constantly reconnecting to the WiFi.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt seems that when I am connected to any WiFi network (home or work) my phone will constantly switch between 4G and WiFI. The only way I have been able to work around this issue is by disabling Mobile Data while I am on WiFi and disabling Smart Network Switch.

However, in the mean time it is still dropping the Wifi and now i am getting charged over usage charges for going over my 1GB limit..

When my phone is in 4G or on WiFi the upload and download arrows are constantly lit up making it seem like the phone is moving data non stop. This is killing my battery life.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had this phone since May and kept it in perfect condition but It all started Thursday, i got home and noticed my phone switching on and off wifi, not updating apps, no fb messager notifications, getting hot and losing alot of battery life, and not searching for update.
I have T mobile and people say just turn off smart Wifi switch and i did but my phones slow with those problems while on Wifi still even with a 100+MB connection.
When Wifi is off though it works perfectly...
When i try to turn on my wifi button, sometimes nothing happens, the other times it quickly turns on then off. This means i am not even able to scan for networks. Also makes the whole phone lag.Sometimes if just says "turning on...." but nothing happens
When screen rotation is turned on on the wifi page, the screen rotates 90 degrees but leaves the left side of the screen black, then after 3 seconds properly rotates. The only way to back out of the wifi page, is to continually press the home button, the back button doesnt work. When not on the wifi page the phone doesnt lag anymore.
Having problems with Google Play Services constantly running? Auto sync off for ALL of Google services. No location on. But battery stats showing Google Play Services running and cannot stop it. Right now it has used 20%. Wifi showing constantly receiving sending data, not many apps installed, in fact already did a factory reset.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've downloaded the same task killer onto my desire s as I had onto my hero but with the desire there are always several apps running minutes after I've killed them. I've had to configure the task killer to kill apps every 30 mins. I don't think the task killer is to blame as it works well enough on the hero but maybe android 2.2 is overriding it. The task killer is 'advanced task killer v1.9.6 build 76' by Rechild. Is this normal behaviour for android 2.2 or is the task killer app simply not coping?

Don't want to erase the phone because I have hundreds of photos I'd like to keep but can't dropbox them or transfer them with a laptop because it doesn't stay on long enough.
Is there any way of getting the photos??
The IM service is always running in applications. I have never even opened the IM application or set it up. It usually is using up between 3.1 and 3.7 MB in the memory, which isn't a big deal. It is running one process and two services. Any way to disable the IM app from constantly running in the background. I had disabled it in the Task Manager to shut off two minutes after the screen goes off but whenever the phone wakes it turns back on and seemed to make my data issues worse. I can't say for sure that adding it to the auto kill list directly affected the data connection because it may have just been another bad day for the Bionic.

View 19 Replies View RelatedSometime in the last week, a post was made asking how to prevent an unwanted person from contacting her via SMS messaging. She can block his phone number directly, and/or just not answer "unknown caller" attempts. (could just direct those to a silent ring/disconnect)
I was browsing aimlessly thru the internet and just came across this blurb:
(*Text blocking not available on Android 4.4/KitKat) found it here: [URL] ....
and this blurb: • Starting from Android 4.4, Google has revoked SMS/MMS permissions from developers. Due to that fact, LINE whoscall will not be able to block SMS/MMS for Android versions 4.4 and above. Call blocking feature is not affected.
If that is actually true, as of today we have no way to block unwanted SMS messages.
I was reading all of the info on different Caller ID apps to see if any of them are worthwhile.
I got my Nexus 5 on the 2nd of this month. I'm on Android 4.4.4. Just today, I was out and about and I realized that, although I was going into settings and turning Wi-Fi off, it just kept turning it right back on! (I had been using the Wi-Fi at the mall, then later I went to a friend's house and connected to my friend's Wi-Fi, which did not work.) So, I turned on my data, only for it to turn off after I guess about 30 seconds. I turned it back on, went on WhatsApp, in the middle of replying to a text from my friend it goes off yet again! What the... So, I went into settings and turned data on, and Wi-Fi off. As I watched, the Wi-Fi switched itself back on, and, predictably, even though there were no wireless networks to connect to, my data turned off as well.
This is really inconvenient. What could be causing the problem? I don't think I've downloaded any apps recently, but they do sometimes update. It was working fine on Thursday, but I've had my data off since then. I also booted into Safe Mode, and the problem doesn't seem to persist.
I tried going to settings>data usage>settings auto sync is checked. I then tried another suggestion: delete my email account and re-add, now the blasted thing says it can't authenticate my account...
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo, I just had to update my phone & I absolutely hate all the changes. For once, when I open up a text message & begin to reply, I always have to hit the letter key twice before it actually appears in the message box. If not, the first letter I type is always left out.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHaving serious issues with my Curve lately. It started freezing occasionally so I would do as the forums said and take out the battery which would solve it for a while. Now, however, even when I do that and turn it back on the phone instantly freezes with messages coming through but the little timer is just constantly turning in the center of the screen.
