BB Curve 83xx :: Stuck In The Most Vicious Reboot Loop Cycle
Apr 14, 2010
I am an IT technician, and we use BES at my company. I have been handed a phone by one of my fellow employees exhibiting the dreaded reboot cycle problem. Yes, I know there are lots of other threads on this, but some are dead ends and some just rehash the same old thing. I'm not certain, but I think this may be different and deserve its own thread. I am working with a BlackBerry Curve 8310 stuck in the known reboot loop. Black screen for 5 seconds, white screen with hourglass for 5 seconds, black screen for 5 seconds, rinse/lather/repeat.
I have tried:
01) Using BBSAK to wipe the device (without Desktop Manager open or running).
02) Using JL_Cmder to wipe the device (without Desktop Manager open or running).
03) Installing the BlackBerry Java Developer Kit and running the wipe variable command on JavaLoader.exe (without Desktop Manager open or running).
04) Deleting vendor.xml and running loader.exe with and without the /nojvm variable from /Program Files/Common Files/etc (without Desktop Manager open or running).
05) Using BlackBerry Desktop Manager to load the newest OS (hey, why not).
06) Tried every combination possible of booting the phone without the battery and inserting it at just the right time, over and over and over again, while all of the processes above attempt to run (BBSAK, JL_Cmder, Loader.exe, etc).
07) Doing all of the above on a Windows XP Professional PC instead of my Windows 7 Ultimate x86 PC.
08) Doing all of the above on a different BlackBerry Curve 8310 without a reboot problem (it works every time; wipe the OS, install the newest one, no issues at all, I'm very familiar with the process).
09) Trying all of the above using a completely different battery.
10) Trying all of the above with the SIM card removed (there is no media card, so no issues there).
As far as all of the documented steps to resolve this known issue, I've tried them all in every which way using every combination I could possibly imagine or invent on the fly, and I've made absolutely, positively no progress whatsoever. The BlackBerry Curve 8310 continues its auto-reboot-5-seconds-into-loading process, and it prevents any of the utilities above to communicate with the phone long enough to establish a handshake before it reboots again. It doesn't seem to matter when I insert the battery at all. The farthest I get is using the loader.exe method (step 04 above). Once it gets to the device initialization step, however, and I insert the battery back in, the reboots simply continue. I am at a loss, and I've done everything that I know to do or that I've learned to do via research on multiple messageboards. Aside from sending teh phone out for repair, what steps are there to take that I have not yet taken to fix this myself? Note that there is no report of the phone being dropped, jarred, or physically mishandled in any way. Nonetheless, could it be that this is not software-related, but hardware-related? What am I missing?

I am not real sure about the exact os number I am using but I do know its 5.0 something. I cant get to about screen fast enough to let you know. But anyway it is in a reboot cycle and will not stop. This worked great for 3 or 4 months then all of a sudden when I woke up this morning it is in a constant reboot. I have tried the tutorial blog on how to recover but it is not working. Anyone have a recomendation for me. or point me to another option to fix this?

Recently I updated my BBM app, and my phone got stuck in a reboot cycle, I was able to solve that problem when I installed the Desktop Manager, and all was well. However, about a week after I fixed my phone, my regular text messaging started acting up. It first started where I would have one person's entire conversation copied in my main messages. Now it's just getting worse. For instance, I texted my mom, and on my main messaging screen under today, there's are about 15 copies of the same conversation. It does this with EVERY SINGLE CONVERSATION I HAVE. Then, it starts to not even show up in my main messaging, and the only way I can receive my texts are if I go through the notifications button. It's not that my texting doesn't work, it's just that all of this is EXTREMELY annoying, and difficult to deal with.

So earlier I was deleting some lock screen application and my blackberry was rebooting but then it got stuck on the reboot screen. So it reboots fully and then starts again. I've tried to connect it to the desktop manager and that didn't work so I took the battery out and tried the apploader but the app I wanted to delete was already gone but it kept rebooting.

about a week ago my bb was dropped into a cup of tea (which had sugar and milk in) and i quickly took out the battery and stuck it in a bowl of uncooked rice for a few days. It was working about 2 days ago, except the keyboard was sticky so I turned it off and got some isopropyl alcohol cleaner and followed some instructions on how to open it all up and clean it which i did. Before i cleaned it i turned it on and the loading screen came up, only it gets to about 5 or 10 percent then restarts itself which it then proceeds to do over and over. I have looked into this problem and it seems i need to reinstall the os?

My Curve 8900 shut down over the weekend. It won't come back on. It goes off and when I press the power button, the red light comes one, the backlit screen with the hourglass comes on and then it goes off again. A little while later, it starts the cycle over again, backlit blank screen, hourglass spins, bb shuts off.

Have tried holding various keys in an attempt to access a BIOS screen or some such thing to no avail (why aren't cell phones more like computers?). As for how my phone got to this state...
-I wanted to add custom ring tones to my recently purchased Samsung Intensity but found that texting them to myself via vzwpix.com led to a significant decrease in quality and the costs would quickly add up as I attempted to fix the issue by editing the sound files in Audacity and texting newer versions to my phone
-To get around using vzwpix.com, I found a method of putting the files directly on the phone by installing the phones drivers to my computer using Samsung PC Studio 3 and moving them directly to the phone using Qualcomm Product Support Tools. The method is copy+pasted below for reference
-After a while I got the ring tone to how I wanted it and went to delete the experimentation files on the phone. I had done this in the past through the phone's interface without issue (though an attempted file rename had caused a quick freeze which was solved by removing and replacing the battery), but this time it froze when attempting to delete the final file
-The phone would not respond to any keypad presses including the power button, so I chose to restart the phone by removing and putting back in the battery
-The phone will no longer pass the "Verizon Wireless" screen and reboots after hanging on that screen for ~7 seconds
Pasted below is the complete method I used to transfer the files for reference. Other smarter methods may exist, but given the issue I had with vzwpix.com, my lack of a mircoSD card, and my desire to avoid media messaging charges I elected to go with this method. Credit goes to ch from the Mobiledia forums for figuring this out and typing this up. It works beautifully aside from the issue I have had. I suggest that anyone who chooses to use it remove sound files from the phone only through QPST and not through the phone's interface.
Software required:
1.Samsung PC Studio
2. QPST (Or other software to allow you to browse the phone's file system)
1. Install Samsung PC Studio (Will only be used to install drivers for the intensity)
2. Change USB Port Map to "Modem" on your phone
a. Go to Settings & Tools > Phone Info > and then press the # button.
b. Enter 000000 for the lock code.
c. Select option 2 "Port Map"
d. Select option 4 "USB"
e. Select option 4 "Modem"
3. Plug phone into usb port.
4. Go to device manager and install drivers for the unidentified devices
a. The drivers will be located in C:Program Files SamsungSamsung PC Studio 3
5. Start QPST EFS Explorer
6. Browse to brewmodmr on the phone
7. Delete MrInfo.db
8. Drag and drop your mp3 ringtone files into this directory
9. Restart the phone.
10. A new MrInfo.db file will be created. Copy it to your desktop.
11. Edit the file with notepad. You should see an entry for each sound file in the directory, followed by |0|0 or something like that. For the first file change the second 0 to a 2. For the next file change that same zero to a 3, and so on. I guess the second zero just needs to be a 2, 3, or 4.
12. Copy MrInfo.db back to the phone in same directory.
13. Reboot the phone and your mp3 will show up under the "My Ringtones" menu.

My Storm2 running official Verizon .713 has suddenly gotten stuck in a boot cycle. It will reboot, get as far as the "BlackBerry" screen, maybe 2 or 3 % into the progress bar, then it will give the white background "freeze/crash" screen but it only flashes momentarily such that I cannot read the error it is giving, then reboots, starting the process all over again in a seemingly endless cycle. Is there any way I can fix this or do I need to wipe the phone and reinstall everything, losing all my data?

My BB Torch 9800 is stuck in a reboot loop. I have tried reinstalling the OS using the AppLoader, tried simply hitting "Update" from my Desktop Manager, I have essentially tried everything I have found online about a "nuked or bricked BB". I have been working on this for days. The problem is that, because of the reboot loop, my phone will not stay connected to my computer long enough for anything to actually happen. I get the error message "Unable to maintain JVC connection" or something along the lines of "Your device is not connected, please reconnect, enter your password and continue".I have had this phone for a year and love it. I made an investment in a BB product and I expect it to last more than one year! If I need to take it in for service, so I simply return to the store where it was purchased?

Today I noticed my Defy screen was black, and it wasn't responding to power button presses, so I took the battery out and rebooted it. A few hours later it was black screen again, and I tried the same proceedure but watched it. Maybe 10 seconds after it finished booting, it rebooted and then gets stuck in a sequence of showing motorola logo and rebooting over and over. I've tried removing the battery again and it will boot once, then immediately reboot and get stuck in loop again.I have tried the following and the same result every time:boot w/o simboot w/o sdboot w/o sd or simboot with better signalI cannot do factory data reset as I do not have enough time before first reboot to get to it. Attempting to start any app before the first reboot just returns to the menu screen.
I attempted to do 'hard reset' as per these instructions: ttp://www.knowyourcell.com/motorola/motorola-defy/defy-uides/595986/how_to_hard_reset_the_motorola_defy.htmlHowever after motorola screen I get a warning icon with a droid similar to this image but without the menu. Attempting to tap anypart of the screen or press any button did not change this screen:ttp://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/5194579958_880780d9e4.jpgThe phone has been running mostly okay for the 6 months or so that I have owned it. I say mostly because I upgraded to Froyo 2 months ago, and it was behaving badly (lagging badly) until factory data reset a month ago.

My phone has been stuck in reboot loop for the last 2 days. I had powered it off on the plane and when i turn on...it keeps rebooting itself after the "Rethink Possible" screen ends. I let the battery drain and still after charging it keeps on rebooting. I am running the phone on "Safe Mode" and only able to run basic Android apps like Gmail, Phone, Gtalk, Camera, etc. All 3rd party apps in Safe mode do not work.

I've had my Photon for two weeks now and love it, but I've noticed it tend to randomly reboot itself after being removed from a car charger. Now the phone boots until it gets into the android operating system, then resets itself. This makes me VERY nervous for two reasons. I don't want to be stuk with a hone that reboots constantly, and more importantly, I sell them and don't want to have to tell everyone I've sold to that I've made a mistake. Is there a fix for this other than a hard reset?

I was doing a regular update of the BB apps yesterday late evening, as per the notifications received by the App World. However, the phone shutdown suddenly, and it tried to reboot. It has since failed to boot up, and keeps on shutting down, while trying to reboot. The progress bar always reaches approx. 95%+, and then it starts again. I have already done Battery pull etc., and connected it with a charger - but so far no luck with it. Connected it to the laptop as well - but it does not recognize it either. I have a backup from a couple of weeks ago, so I am wondering, how I can reset the device and restore to an earlier backup? This is a month old Torch 9800 device.

My iPhone is stuck in a guess what is just a reboot loop. It gets stuck on the apple logo for maybe 5 minutes then it goes to the spinning wheel for another 5 minutes ( wheel doesn't spin just stuck ) then goes back to the apple logo again. I've tried holding both the home and power button to reset it but all that does it restart the process. I've put in DFU mode to restore but my computer and a friends computer both won't recognize it ( also tried to cables ) so I can't restore it.

Just purchased a used Curve 8530. Previous owner could not remember the password so after going through the process of too many tries and a wipe of the system, the phone now will not boot up. Get an hour glass and then a quick screen flash before it starts the same routine. When I try to connect to Desktop Manager it keeps connecting and dropping so I am unable to reload software.

My Verizon Curve, 8330, has been going into a loop for the past two weeks with "Voice Dialing Initializing" showing up randomly. When I get out of it, it will soon pop up again. When this starts to happen, any outgoing calls I try to make will be instantly disconnected. The problem starts, sometimes, after receiveing a call--I can't hear the other party and then they can't hear me.When I hang up, the loop starts.I do have bluetooth on to automatically hook into my car when I am driving.I tried to fix the problem by upgrading the operating system from 4.5.77 to 4.5.175, but the problem is persisting. The button on the side is not set to activate voice dialing (I switched it shortly after I got the phone 18 months ago). Any suggestions would be appreciated--I do not want to have to remove VOD but if there is no other solution will have to. There is a discussion under the Pearl for this problem, but I do not see it discussed in the Curve area.

Background: bought a new phone and received it Friday, activated it no problem. Tried using the BDM to "switch devices" and it was LOADS of problems installed the newest one. THOUGHT I finally was able to transfer all the info to my new phone, but here's where the real problem starts Okay, when it starts to reboot, that progress bar fills ALLLL the way up, sits there for like 2 minutes, and then restarts AGAIN with the little red light, the progress bar fills ALLLL the way up, sits there for like 2 minutes, and then restarts YET AGAIN and it's been doing this for the last 10 hours! I have removed the battery and media card and EVERYTHING, left it out for like 10 minutes, reinserted the media card and battery and it just keeps doing this. If I try to connect it to the computer, the computer won't recognize it and the BDM says, "Blackberry Desktop Manager cannot communicate with the connected blackberry device. If the device is rebooting or has a dead battery, click Retry to attempt to reconnect once the device reboots. Otherwise you might need to update the blackberrry device software to correct the problem"How in the world am i supposed to update the software on the device if i can't stop it from rebooting?

My Lumia 1520 (ATT Version) has had this reboot cycle problem for about a week now. It started a week ago when it was at 2%, died and when I tried to charge it, it started freezing and rebooting and freezing and rebooting. Originally I thought it was a power issue because it always had 2% when it restarted. I got it home to my Nokia original cord plugged into my surface pro charger and charged it and fiddled with it like turning it on airplane mode, deleting unread messages before it restarted, etc. But then recently its been doing it more and its been doing it while at 40%, 12%, etc. Even when its plugged in. It seems to get very hot every time I do this. During all of this, I have Xbox music songs I have pending download. I was going to let those finish over WiFi but it won't let me turn on WiFi. I'm wondering if the 53 pending downloads could be causing this issue but I'm not sure. I'm running the latest dev preview and cyan. I have a ton of apps and music and all that installed on my SD card.
