if i don't want to get the internet services while travelling (because of the big cost) how can i discconet my blackberry bold 9700 so it won't download automatic mails and won't look for updates on the mobile internet?

If I put my simcard in my old blackberry storm it work just fine. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Blackberry 8830 may now be a paperweight from trying to update the software. I backed everything up by using Blackberry Desktop Manager. I started the software update process and made sure to include another back-up of everything. Soon after the process started, it hung up for 30 minutes, and since the BlackBerry screen was stuck on "Connecting to Desktop", I jiggled the USB connection a little bit to see if that would work. I have had intermittent problems in the past probably because the phone is old, and I don't always get a reliable connection (when recharging or tethering). That worked, and the "Blackberry Device Manager Properties" window showed that the Blackberry 8830 was connected and the "Updating Device Software" window showed progress as the "Backup" was completed.
The next step was "Erasing Applications" as part of the Install process, and that is where the process has been frozen for the last hour and 15 minutes. I fear that the connection failed again, and so the 8830 was inadvertently disconnected during the update. Now, no amount of jiggling will show that I am connected even though the PC knew that the Blackberry was connected ("Driver Software Installation" recognizes a Blackberry smartphone). I have a dark screen, phone off, and the dreaded 2 x red flashing light every 3 seconds that another forum poster mentioned. I cannot turn my phone on. It is not recognized as a connected device. Obviously the "Erasing Applications" remains frozen at 40%.
I purchased my phone in the United States with TMobile but I am currently in Malaysia now. It is already unlocked since I am able to use my Malaysian Digi SIM card to call and text. However, I am unable to use the internet services. I have already spoken to both TMobile and Digi to try troubleshoot but to not avail. My host routing table won't let me register. It keeps saying 'Registration message queued. It will be sent once data coverage is available.' My Blackberry services with Digi has already beem activated. I've tried restarting the phone i.e. taking the battery out. It still says GSM and not EDGE. Is there anything I can do to get my internet services to work?

Until about 2/3 weeks ago I had the blackberry for about 2 months and was working perfectly, however now it's started to have some problems with internet services.The problem is that most of the time it just won't connect to the internet anymore. Things like Whatsapp, Googlemail, The Blackberry Store, Browser, just don't work. Yet sometimes they do. For example with whatsapp, it will suddenly stop sending/receiving messages and then receive them hours later. BBM seems to be fairly consistent however.. but is just really slow sometimes.
