I have bought Blackberry bold 9900. I can use GPRS to sync the mail, calendar, browse internet and so on, but this is a little bit expensive and I have wifi at home so I want to use it instead of GPRSHow can I disable GPRS (so that I'm sure that the phone doesn't sync or use internet through it) and enable wifi so that the phone only can use this to avoid huge bill for cell phone? I understand, that I can't use BBM and some few other apps with wifi, but let say I want to check only my gmail account, browse internet at home on WIFI, send/receive sms and answer calls. If I disable "data services" in "mobile network" wifi stays connected, but I can't browse.
I me using bb 8520 curve i have deactivate the data service from my phone but i don't want to switch of my network from manage connections i want to use both wifi and network because my cell should be switch on 24/7 in short i want to use wifi along with making and recieving calls
I want to use whatsapp on my nokia C3-00 and use it only through the wifi. I have tried creating new access point but every time I connect it uses gprs although packet data connection is selected to 'when connected'. I have deleted the access points through personnel settings but still some access points are available through packet data. Is it because of that gprs is activated? If yes, how can I delete them?
I need to disable the touchscreen on my Blackberry Bold 9900 its rediculus all this product development and nobody at blackberry, muted call, put on hold and redilaled with there ear touching the touch screen? i dont like my new 9900 for that reason.
Is there any way to remove or disable notification bar on my 9900? The email and message icons show me when there is a new message so this thing is a waste of my screen space and time.
I tried to disconnect by going to Setting->Connectivity->disconnect, after which it disconnects and then in few seconds reconnects. The reconnection takes place automatically Any way to disable it and use it only while I need it only? This problem started only yesterday. Was fine till then.
I don't really want to accidently press 3G and 2G etc is there a way to disable it? I am on monthly contract and have an option where it costs me 30p to use internet if I go onto it, but thats for the entire day. Also, I have the most recent ovi maps and I set it to offline mode, and tried to download some voices. It said, connect to internet? And I pressed yes and it downloaded them. Would it have used 3g/2g or my WLAN?
I have just taken delivery of my new 8520. I bought it for its Internet, and more so, WI-FI capabilities. However I am due to go on holiday and due to the cost of getting data in a foreign country would like to totally disable the GPRS data, as not to incur a huge bill. I would however like to still be able to access internet, Via WI-Fi, when in a free wifi hotspot or something running off wifi (hotel internet at 1 euro a hour etc)
I have tried this at home on my home router with what I think is GPRS off, wifi enabled, and it informs me I need GPRS on to access WIFI. Being a coms engineer, I can’t understand in anyway shape or form how one is dependant on the other, being they are totally different protocols.
i would loke to knoe where i can enable and disable th gprs/edge data transfer. i.e. I am using limitted internet acess with 50 hrs inter net usage. Now i dont know when it connect i could not use it very well. i want to enable/disable when ever i need. I checked connection manager but it does not give any option no active connectionarul
I had recently downloaded and installed the new os 7.1.0.267 os from SK Telecom form the software download page of on blackberry site to my bold 9900. Upon doing that i was able to access the new mobile hot spot feature and even set it up for use after calling my service provider for the APN which is Lime Jamaica. I even tested it by using another phone which detected it. However sometime afterwards about 30 minutes to an hour later while listening to music my headset got pull out by mistake and upon putting it back in realized music wouldn't start playing back after pressing the side button. Unlocked the phone only to see the play icon highlighted in music player but nothing wouldn't register when clicked with trackpad or touch screen. plus got a message on the screen saying that device media player was busy, which continued for a while. Did a battery pull afterwards which fixed the problem. However a few hours later when i decided to show a friend the new feature and test it by connecting his phone, upon accessing the connections menu the mobile hot spot option was missing even in networks and connections. essentially it disappeared form the phone the only apps on the phone besides the default ones was wikitude and whatsapps. Even after a factory reset it didn't return. Did a clean wipe of the os and installed the os again upon which the hot spot option returned only to disappear again after about a few minutes at which time no extra apps was insatlled just the default ones. Have no idea whats causing this and whats worse the 7.1.0.267 download has been removed from the Sk Telecom link.
I connected my blackberry to my home wifi network but now every time I return home the phone doesn't connect automatically. I have to pull the battery and restart the phone then it will connect automatically. I don't have any mobile service at my house and am dependent on using UMA over wifi to receive calls so I'd like to get this sorted.
Does anyone know definitively what, if any, deployment of Wi-Fi/UMA the 9900 is going to get (in a future software update)? I have heard that it isn't getting it at all, it is getting UMA or it is getting GAN-Lite. I rely on this connectivity so much that it will make the difference between me buying this new Bold or not.
It kept saying: the protocol specified isn't supported by the handheld . Please try a different URL. But all I want to do is just get access to WIFI!!! Who can help me with this problem, Usually a page will jump out which allow me to type my ID and password.. but no page jumped out in this 9900. From the home page, what i can see is it has accessed to WIFI, but i cant open any website.
My BB Bold just started crashing every time I try to access data over Wi-Fi or sometimes even when it is just on. By crash i mean: black screen, red LED, full reboot. It just started when I was on a public network at a University. It wouldn't usually be a big deal but my house is the only place where i dont get 4G (of course). I have not restored it just because I really don't want to have to go through the hastle of reinstalling apps and such.
I just went overseas for a few days and I was able to connect to the WIFI network with my Data Services option as 'Off' because I have a 3G plan and I didn't want to get charged for 3G overseas as it's more expensive. However after I connected to the WIFI I couldn't do any browsing. It says 'A communication failure has occurred. The server may be busy, please try again later. If the problem persists contact your service provider'
Just switched from a bold 9700 to bold 9900. Our mobile signal is extremely limited since we're out in the country so wifi is essential here.On my 9700, wifi worked perfectly with all applications but that doesn't appear to be the case with the bold 9900. Several apps are extremely slow or don't work at all. I think the reason for this is the 9900 isn't using wifi for some apps. I believe some apps are using wifi such as the browser and facebook but app world, google maps, scoremobile, whatsapp and tunein radio to name a few don't appear to be using wifi at all.
I'm setting up a new 9900. I have a cryptic 63 character wifi passphrase that I would like to paste into the field, but there seems to be no way to do that. Is there a work around other than by manually typing it in?
I have many problems by every next day I have new BB Bold9900. While I can browse Internet through wifi (which is interesting cause it loves to freeze), I cannot use BB app world, cause it says my device is not connected to the wireless network. The same thing with FB application. I simply cannot connect to Internet although I already am connected, and my phone even shows full signal, network name, etc. Is there any solution which will make it possible to comfortably use BB????
I just got a bold 9900 a couple weeks ago and I like it. I use facebook a lot and it worked on the mobile network not on wifi. Yesterday I synced my bold for updates and now facebook doesn't on my mobile network and only on wifi. How I can change it back so I can use my mobile network rather than wifi.
I got a Nokia C3-00 for Christmas and love the fact that I can use the wifi at home to acess the internet. When I use the mail function it asks me what connection I want to use, either the GPRS or the Wifi and both work. The same happens when I use the communities button and facebook & Snaptu app. However when I use the opera mini browser it just automatically connects to GPRS. I am only on pay as you go so when I can I want to use wifi and just use the GPRS when I really have to.
I have tried all the fixes and the one that seems to work is the one suggested by Charlie222. This fix makes everything which needs an internet connection ask you which connection you'd like to use and if you select wifi then it works. However if you want to use the GPRS then the settings will not work. This means that I have had to go back through and undo everything Charlie said to do which means again when I use opera mini it just defaults to GPRS.
I know it may seem greedy but I want both GPRS and Wifi to work so as I said I can use wifi at home then GPRS when out and about (mainly when I am bored at work!).
I have updated to the very latest version of software for the phone but still nothing seems to solve the problem and all I want is the phone to work how it should.
I got my 9900 in August and haven't had this problem before. I can connect to my WiFi -- it shows as connected, strong connection etc. But when I try to go to any site on my browser I get "Unable to find the requested server. This is on my home wifi. But my laptop and WiFi are still fine so it's only on my phone. However, I discovered I am able to connect to other wifis - just not the one at home. The problem originated right when I was downloading some software upgrades. I wasn't really paying much attention to what I was doing and I'm not even sure how I got into downloading these upgrades because I'd never done that before. Anyway, one of the downloads seemed to have got stuck mid-way through downloading.
I've got a set up gprs profile in my c3-00 but sometimes i'd like to use wifi instead. What type of connection does phone use when i have an established wifi connection and how can i force it to use wifi when available?Browsers - neither opera, nor ovi don' ask me what type of connection to use, they just connect to internet. I didn't choose "don't ask" for browser but did for 3d party soft.
Our company was able to receive the new Bold 9900 but it seems there is an issue with activating wifi on the device. Have tried turning on Wifi, but it attempts scanning for networks then eventually fails and turns wifi off. It doesn't even list any active access points. Doing a battery pull and reset the device to factory defaults does not seem to do the trick. I am thinking it could be a defective device or perhaps a software issue. BB OS: v7.1.0.1091
I have the blackberry 9900 and want to turn off the network internet services without turning off the wifi function. My mobile carrier is vodafone and even when I am connected to wifi, my credit is being used up. How do I disable the internet function but still use wifi? When I try disabling data services, wifi doesnt connect at all?
