I can use GPRS to sync the mail, calendar, browse internet and so on, but this is a little bit expensive and I have wifi at home so I want to use it instead of GPRSHow can I disable GPRS (so that I'm sure that the phone doesn't sync or use internet through it) and enable wifi so that the phone only can use this to avoid huge bill for cell phone? I understand, that I can't use BBM and some few other apps with wifi, but let say I want to check only my gmail account, browse internet at home on WIFI, send/receive sms and answer calls. If I disable "data services" in "mobile network" wifi stays connected, but I can't browse.

I have tried creating new access point but every time I connect it uses gprs although packet data connection is selected to 'when connected'. I have deleted the access points through personnel settings but still some access points are available through packet data. Is it because of that gprs is activated? If yes, how can I delete them?

However I am due to go on holiday and due to the cost of getting data in a foreign country would like to totally disable the GPRS data, as not to incur a huge bill. I would however like to still be able to access internet, Via WI-Fi, when in a free wifi hotspot or something running off wifi (hotel internet at 1 euro a hour etc)
I have tried this at home on my home router with what I think is GPRS off, wifi enabled, and it informs me I need GPRS on to access WIFI. Being a coms engineer, I can’t understand in anyway shape or form how one is dependant on the other, being they are totally different protocols.
When I try to access a web page it comes up with "Unable to connect to the Internet, please try again later. If the problem persists please contact your service provider."

Later i've got a data plan from operator and started using internet disabling Wifi. When i was back to home and started using Wifi disabling the Data Service from service provider, I couldn't access internet through Wifi.

I am on monthly contract and have an option where it costs me 30p to use internet if I go onto it, but thats for the entire day. Also, I have the most recent ovi maps and I set it to offline mode, and tried to download some voices. It said, connect to internet? And I pressed yes and it downloaded them. Would it have used 3g/2g or my WLAN?

1. The phone always keeps connecting to my GPRS network (Tele2). When I go to the connections I can see that connection being active and transferring some data (not much, it's almost always at 7 kb). When I put my phone on the table I can hear that strange radio sound on the speakers (=some radio activity from my phone). I checked but there are no other programs that require the connection. I'm not using any email account on the messages menu.
2. Same thing happened when I connected to my neighbour's wlan. It always keeps connecting to it, even after I go to the wlan menu and disconnect it. It just refreshes and goes all the way again to connect to it by any means possible.
I'm new to blackberry and having some issue with email and WIFI. The thing is that I have no data plan, I get charge on the amount of trafic. So I want to force the phone to GSM and be able to get my email pushed whenever I'm connected to WIFI. I've search everywhere but it seems that there is no way to do it. I tryed to disable data but it disable email via WIFI (but you can surf with the browser). tryed to turn off mobile network, I receive my email via WIFI but no one can call me then.I want to use BB email service and don't want to install any other email software.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a Nokia C3-00 for Christmas and love the fact that I can use the wifi at home to acess the internet. When I use the mail function it asks me what connection I want to use, either the GPRS or the Wifi and both work. The same happens when I use the communities button and facebook & Snaptu app. However when I use the opera mini browser it just automatically connects to GPRS. I am only on pay as you go so when I can I want to use wifi and just use the GPRS when I really have to.
I have tried all the fixes and the one that seems to work is the one suggested by Charlie222. This fix makes everything which needs an internet connection ask you which connection you'd like to use and if you select wifi then it works. However if you want to use the GPRS then the settings will not work. This means that I have had to go back through and undo everything Charlie said to do which means again when I use opera mini it just defaults to GPRS.
I know it may seem greedy but I want both GPRS and Wifi to work so as I said I can use wifi at home then GPRS when out and about (mainly when I am bored at work!).
I have updated to the very latest version of software for the phone but still nothing seems to solve the problem and all I want is the phone to work how it should.
I'm using Curve 8900 os5.0.0.592 on vodafone. My phone had a problem with its speakerphone and I had to have it replaced. It was replaced at a backdoor repair because in Zimbabwe there are no registered blackberry® technicians. The speakerphone is now functioning but the wifi is no-longer scanning. Just wanted to ask if the two are by any chance related.Also BBS are not available in Zimbabwe so I rely on wifi when I want to use the browser.

I'm with a data plan that isn't full data. I can only use Twitter/Facebook/IM Services. No email or browsing. When I want to use these things I connect to my home wifi and use that. Worked perfectly for the first few months. However now when I click email or browser on my phone with wifi turned on and it says it's connect to the network I get the following message:You are currently on a service plan that requires a Wi-Fi connection to this this application. i recently brought a bb 9360 and ive bin lookin and theres not just me either havin this problem, every time i try 2 connect to my wifi the msg failed to associate to the network keeps poppin up, ive had no problems with my old fone 8520 conectin to the wifi its only this fone, i am on the latest os7, i live in a poor signal area and im always usin the internet and bbm so i realy need 2 connet to my wifi.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a home WiFi network and can connect my BB 8520 curve to it successfully and it is able to browse and use apps etc. How-ever everyday or two even though it remains connected to WiFi it suddenly is not able to browse. I need to restart the BB or Router or both and then it reconnects and can browse again. What could be causing this ?I am unable to add or be added to other BB's in terms of using the IM. Contacts that I am trying to add remain in pending (waiting for authorization). I do not have a data plan with my 3G network provider as I only want to use data related functions when connected to my home Wi-Fi. What could be causing the problem?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm using Vodafone 3G in India. My iphone 4S is able to download mails perfectly fine from my gmail and corporate email using home wi-fi.
On connecting to vodafone 2G or 3G the mails do not work. It keeps trying to connect and nothing happens after that. Regular internet browsing works fine in 2G and 3G and wi-fi. I can see that the browsing is faster in 3G compared to grps.
I have tried to reset network settings in iPhone, removed and insetred SIM. I also upgraded to IOS 5.1.1, no luck

Other apps do show all access points.This is a pitty as the application is rather nice.The app does show settings for the GPRS, 3G and Wi-Fi bitrates, so obviously it does support these connections.I've deleted and re-installed, to no avail.

So, today, and purely for research purposes went to McDonalds for lunch and tried their Wifi (had a quarter pounder with cheese with sprite for those interested) and just like back at home, connects first time then drops then "failed to associate with network".I am on Orange with the Blackberry unlimited internet add on and everything worked fine with my pearl.Have tried Orange tech but , well the less said the better there.
My Curve 8520 has my home wireless connection but it doesn't hold the connection for more than a minute at a time. Is there anything I can do? It's fine when the little WiFi words light up in the top right of the screen, but then it goes grey and is disconnected.
