Samsung Galaxy S II :: Wi-Fi Sharing Process Activated When Tethering Not Enabled
May 12, 2011
I thought it would be useful to make a bug list, that way anyone with a specific problem can come here to see if it's common and if there's any workarounds."Wi-Fi Sharing" process activated when tethering not enabled..Problem description: When using my phone earlier when connected to wifi, my battery went down very fast. Looked in the battery monitor, and it showed that the "Wi-fi sharing" process was using more power than the screen (which is unusual) - it used about 10% in half an hour. I also noticed my phone had clocked up to 1.2ghz and was getting pretty hot. I force stopped the process, and the CPU clocked back down to 200mhz.
Reproducing the problem: It appears to happen if you've enabled or configured tethering once. When it happens to me, it happens if I disable then enable wifi. It may or may not be specific to the type of wifi network you connect to.Root your phone and freeze "Wi-Fi sharing" in Titanium Backup. This will not effect Kies air or anything, though could effect tethering. If your tethering no longer works after freezing this application, defrost it to restore tethering functionality. Most people are saying this, and another wifi drain issue, have been fixed in the latest firmware(s).Potential issues when restoring settings from a rooted phone to a non rooted SGS II via Google.I did have a little problem here and there when I first got my SGSII. When I setup the google account, I chose to allow google to restore my settings. It is pretty cool as it restored all the apps I had with my old SGS but I suspect some of the apps I had is for the custom rom only hence I had problem everywhere with the new SGSII. I then did a factory reset and setup without the restore bit and since then I havn't had a single problem yet.My phone came with XWKDD and I heard something about this firmware has fixes to the previous ones, so it might worth upgrade your firmware if you are ok with Odin So my suggestions to you is, do a factory reset and rebuild your phone from scratch without restoring, if problem still exists, consider a firmware update.
Yesterday for no reason my phone started activating a "Car Mode" feature draining the battery into nothing even after its fully charged. the screen is also rotating even when i have auto rotate off and is also starting freeze. it keeps connecting and disconnecting into Kies via USB despite the USB not even being plugged in.
Sorry if this has been posted. I understand that in order to tether, you are supposed to get a tethering plan-as it is with other phones. However, will the tethering option on the phone not be enabled unless I pay for a plan? ie: will I see the option to tether in settings or will I have to enroll in a plan to have AT&T push a new carrier file to me?
Yesterday I came across a strange problem with my SGSII. I realized that I cant access my gallery if wifi is switched on.If I turn off wifi, it works again. Any idea why this is happening? Restarting the phone didnt change anything. At first I thought it might be from some app, so I uninstalled the last 5 apps I downloaded, but nothing changed I'm positive that it was working fine before. It just happened all of a sudden.I have attached screen-shots of my phone info along with what my gallery looks like when it's not working.
The XOOM 3G manual says that ts possible to use USB tethering for sharing your XOOM's 3G connection with the laptop. However, the XOOM doesn't have the option described in the manual! I'm running 3.2 on a non-US 3G XOOM.Well, you might wonder why I need USB tethering. So far, I've found that USB tethering provides better bandwidth than WIFI tethering.
when wifi is off, I can send myself an email and get notified several seconds later by my phone... if I try the same with wifi on, I get nothing.. Turn wifi off, and the notification comes through..Recently update to latest firmware via kies XWKF3 It is an unbranded sim free SG2 in UK, on Orange...
Yesterday I have added my Facebook and Linked in accounts in Social Hub. I thought it was like an app or somekind. All I saw was updates from my FB home page. I cant do anything else other than seeing all those updates. I mean I can upload any photos or videos, I understood that its not an app kind but something else. Now, how do I remove/delete those two accounts from that social hub. Couldn't see any options available? Also noticed in other forums that once if we delete that account it cannot be added again coz of SNS feed issues?
I have had my SG2 (On three with "all you can eat data") for about two weeks and the last week I keep getting a tethering block, several times a day, when using internet or network error while using apps. this can only be fixed by rebooting the phone. I have not used the phone for tethering or as a wifi hot spot so don't know why its doing it. I have replaced the sim card and done a factory reset on the phone but it is still doing it. When I get the error in the internet app there's a link to the three website which does work.
Starting yesterday I have seen the above message 3 times. The only thing I have changed on the phone was to enable Motocast yesterday. Also, I replaced the 16GB SD card with a 32GB SD card, early last week. I've only had the phone for about a month. I have been able to power the phone off and reboot and get the phone functioning again. Last night it took 2 reboots before the phone became functional again. What can I look for to determine whats causing the error?
I read about apps that allow tethering of other devices without the additional tethering plans... foxfi was one that was suggested... however, I don't think it is working on the S6. Any app that works?
Apparently I'm the stupidest person with this phone. According to every website I've found you just START> Internet sharing> USB + Data> Connect and your online.I do this and it tells me "check USB connection" the USB is active, the phone is charging, but my PC says its an "unknown device".I spent hours searching for the intrepid's USB driver to no avail. (tried the "update driver wizard" in XP and it couldnt find drivers either.
I have a Straight Talk Samsung R451c. I keep trying to get Java apps on my phone. I called Samsung and they said it has Java, but Straight Talk disabled that and many more extensions from being downloaded onto the phone. They told me to call Straight Talk, so I did. They said it wouldn't be fair to the other customers if they told me how to enable downloading and Java. That being said, THERE IS A WAY TO HACK IT! Looking at the Samsung website seeing Java enabled is the ONLY reason I bought this phone. Click Here to see the Samsung specs. Not to mention I bought it on eBay for $108 w/accessories.I have another post in the Straight Talk forums, please help me out in trying to figure out how to do this. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1609835
Can anyone give me instructions or tell me if it is even possible to tether via bluetooth connection on the Samsung Stunt? I do not have a USB cord for it and I am also not sure if they even make one for it.
Just got the new Bold 9650. Should I have the firewall enabled, and the encryption enabled? What else should I do to make sure that my phone is secure?
I currently have ATT cellular service and I am currently using the Samsung SGH A707 Sync. I plan to tether to my laptop and would like to get the $15(200 Meg) or $25 (2GB) data plan. I have previously used the unlimited data plan and tethered to a LG CU500 about two years ago.I recalled setting up the dialup connection (via Bluetooth) with username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: CINGULAR1 and dialed *99# Are those parameters the same now if I use the A707 sync? Or did ATT changed those parameters already?I have also noticed that the A707 Sync has a different connections setting than what I used previously on the LG CU500. There are FOUR types of connections setting in the A707 Sync. They seem to have been preset. Here are the connections settings: 1. MEdia Net wap1.X wap.cingular Auth Type: Secure WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: ********* (presumably CINGULAR1) Protocol: WAP Gateway address: 66.209.11.61 2. MEdia Net wap2.x wap.cingular Auth Type: Secure WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: ********* (presumably CINGULAR1) Protocol: HTTP Proxy address: wireless.cingular.com:80 3. AT&T MMS wap.cingular Auth Type: Secure WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM password: ********* (presumably CINGULAR1) Protocol: HTTP Proxy address: wireless.cingular.com:80 4. AT&T IMS ims.cingular Auth Type: Normal Protocol: HTTP Proxy address: 0.0.0.0:80 What are the differences between the settings and which of the four would the appropriate connection setting for tethering to the laptop?Lastly, my main task would be somewhat routine (checking email/check ebay item/bank account/paying bill) using the data plan probably around 3 times a day for no more than 5-10 min. Should I get the $15 or $25 data plan?
My cousin (she has a Samsung Gravity) was saying we can share files through bluetooth? I remember doing it on my Sidekick, but now I can only receive files, not send?
I have a Samsung S6. The Developer Option is active, but the option the USB Debugging is not enabled, it is gray and i can no check the checkbox. I need it because I started learn how to develop to Android, and the AndroidStudio doesnt recognise the phone.
A new icon next to the WiFi activated connected suddenly appeared. It is a capital N but on the lower left side are 3 quarter circles ie like a wifi symbol & I am not sure why it is showing. My default home page on the internet is BBC & I thought that may be it was something to do with that as it was down for the last few days. But it is up & running now & the icon is still there. The N icon only shows when I connect my phone to my wifi at home. The phone says its connected to the wifi (message re the same) & indeed the wifi direct symbol is on with the arows flickering away. It also stays on even though I am right next to the wifi. I have had the phone for 2 months or so & it never used to show this symbol. The wifi at home has not changed & works normally with all other devices.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but whenever I try to share something via messenger or email in android, it never links properly. So for example I took a pic with the stock camera and then tried to share it via Google messenger using the in app share button. Every time I hit the share to messenger button nothing happened. BTW it's happened multiple times with different apps (ie sharing links from Firefox.)
Long time LG G2 user that just picked up a refurb S5 yesterday. On my G2, if I wanted to transfer files quickly between my laptop (PC) and phone, I could just connect the 2 via a built-in wifi file sharing app. I don't see something similar for the S5. Any quick/easy/free way to connect my phone to my laptop via wifi? Would prefer not to have to hook up my USB cord every time I need to do a file transfer.
I have just completed a factory reset of my Samsung Galaxy S6 4G. I still can't connect to the Internet on my laptop via USB tethering. Or if it does connect the speed is ~500 Kbps (before it was between 10 Mbps and 20 Mbps).
I've had my Xoom for 3 weeks now. It worked okay with no error messages until last week. Everytime I turn it on, it displays this message:The Process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please retry again.Forceclose Report?I have chosen Report and filled that out, but now just hit Forceclose and it resumes and I don't seem to have any problems.
My Samsung Galaxy S6 is new and I am using a root wifi tether. It gets extremely hot (attached picture with CPU-Z with temperatures). Is this typical? Is this dangerous?
What should I try? Factory reset/turn in phone, or are there other things I should try? Or should I just deal with it.
How do I fix power sharing apps as i cannot charge my samsung s6 properly after last update. I checked the application manager the apps already installed and there but when i try to look it in the menu there i cannot see the apps. Try to replace my charger and try another charger but the result was the same. How to uninstall. Also i already clear the data, cache and even force stop.
I am currently using smg925i rom XtreStoLite. Mod to enable usb reverse tethering in s6 edge. I want to use my PC internet connection on my mobile. This feature was available in htc one m7 but missing in s6edge...
If I click Edit & look for it in the rest of the inactive icons it's not there either - I mean it's not even there for adding. I used to have it & use it every once in a while
