Nokia :: 5800 Email Notification Gone From Homescreen
Jan 3, 2010
I've found the Email Notification on the homescreen very useful but now there is only a little gap between the Search button and the Calendar events. Disabling or enabling this option doesn't change anything whatsoever. I like new features but I prefer having no option rather than being teased by a half-arsed setting.
I have just backed up and synced my phone with my laptop and when I disconnected it I found that the email notification bar had disappeared and I cannot get it back all I get now is an empty greyed strip were it should be which can be pressed but doesn't do anything.anyone know how to get it back??
After upgrading to v40, I've compared the new homescreen to the old homescreen and to the old homescreen with v21-31, these are my findings.
- The old homescreen on v40 does not have the email notification that Nokia introduced a short while ago and which was obviously VERY well recieved globally.
- The new homescreen on v40 has kinetic scrolling contacts which is, um, cute. It has the ability to control the music player (What I found to be very buggy, crashing it by simply pressing 'forward' when it's playing a folder with 1 song).
- The new homescreen on v40 does not have calendar and tasks, probably for the space the new music player-thing takes. This was my FAVORITE thing on the homescreen and I am sure I'm not alone.
I truly hope Nokia addresses these issues by either returning the email notifications to the old homescreen or somehow allowing to see the calendar and tasks on the new homescreen. Or both.
No reason for that: one day it just disappeared, leaving a blank line between the 2 black horizontal separator. I'm running the app with a red @ as icon, which was proposed by the device once started up.Please don't tell me to update the software, set the notification as visible, doing a hard reset, as I already did it all this stuff.I read somewhere to delete the file C:private10202be9persist which can be found by using X-plore. Again: I did install it, but that folder named private is not shown (shall I think that there isn't any?).Does anyone reckon that this issue may be fixable?
I have updated my phone to the latest software. Since that the emai notification wont go even after reading and downloading every mail. Do somebody have a hint?
To all you guys that isnt satisfied with the Nokia 5800 homescreen and stuff. Spb Software has released SPB Mobile Shell for Symbian and it is really amazing. Completely changes the phone and makes it more flexibel with widgets on the homescreen. Check it out
This has been awaited a long time by the nokia 5800 xm users that in the next firware update nokia provides us with a n97 type screen, may be with lesser widgets but something similar to that, and a symbian^3 update though payable should also be provided to tube users.
After updating to v51 i'm encountering something unusual.the homescreen clock on the top left goes blank but when i touch than empty place the clock app pops up! After exiting it again goes blank!
I have recently updated my 5800 to the long-awaited v40 firmware and so far it's great, but I've got one serious issue with it. In the previous firmware, the contacts on the homescreen used the default number when I pressed the telephone icon, but now in the new firmware when I select a homescreen contact and press the call icon, a popup appears asking me which number I'd like to call. This is slightly strange, seeing as the same contact selected from the Contacts Book correctly uses the default number without asking. I have tried removing the default number settings and setting it again, and also removing contacts from the homescreen and adding them again, but neither worked. It's pretty annoying, because having certain contacts on the homescreen is meant, at least in my opionion, to speed things up, like speed dial, but now it requires an additional click before the call is made... So, anybody know how to make the HS contacts use default numbers?
Problem observed by me on any firmware version, I'm using actually v 50.0.005 in my 5800XM.If you have over 200 e-mails in your mailbox on server and you have downloaded them into the phone (even only e-mails headers) then icon in upper right corner (that envelope with @ sign) doesn't want disappear. Only phone turn off then turn on is solution which is not so funny.Any ideas? Magic spells? Wake up developers! This bug? is very irritating.
How do I get rid of the facebook notification in the second bar on my home screen? It looks like a notification about one bbm message, accept next to the '1' there is a facebook icon, but when I go into facebook, there's nothing. The notification on my device's home screen doesn't go away.
I just got the Galaxy S5 and cannot figure out how to suppress the red Facebook indicator bubble (this probably has a name) that shows on the Facebook app icon on the home screen when there has been some sort of activity. Under Application Manager, Facebook...the Show Notification box is unchecked.
I've also tried Settings, Sounds and notifications, Facebook and turned On the Block all notifications. Still getting the bubble!
Just got a new 5800 XpressMusic, and it works wonderfully, except for one problem - there's no form of alert for text messages, giving me no way to tell if I've received a message apart from actually going into my inbox and looking. I have a message tone and vibration set and still there's no notification, not even an icon at the top of the screen.
Right i have had my 5800 for around 3 months now and yesterday i came across a problem,i can recives texts fine but i get no notification, no tone, no vibrate not even the little message icon on the top of the screen, the blinking white light still flashes and i can go into my inbox and see them.
I'm going from a Samsung Galaxy S3 to a Nexus 6. I never thought it would be so different! On the GS3, certain icons would show "event counters" or whatever they're called in the top right corner. The email icon would show me how many unread emails I had. The Text Messaging app would show me how many unread texts i had. Facebook would show me how many unread notifications I had, etc etc... They were all the same, a number in a little orange bubble in the top right corner of each respective icon.
I have tried setting my yahoo and gmail mails with settings wizard AND nokia messaging but every time i connect i keep on getting user name + mailbox password with filled fields AND mailbox incoming mail server not found.check mailbox settings RESPECTIVELY. I have 5800 XM fw 31.0.101 and all applications are up to date. can someone help trouble shooting
I have just updated my 5800. It works much better now but the email has gone from the homescreen. I have checked the settings and this says it should be there. Any ideas?
seem to have this occassional glitch when I'm using Mobile Mail on my 5800. I have it linked to my Yahoo.ca account via Rogers ISP (Canada). I can log on to my Yahoo mail, read it and reply, but occasionally when I reply to an email it wont send, it wont cancel, it won't do anything. So....it's when I choose to reply to an email, I'm able to enter the reply, but its when I choose OK, nothing happens. If I choose cancel, nothing happens. I have to restart the phone to get that window to close!!
Software vers. V31.2.101. Updating Firmware and Software via USB -> Internet show no updates available.
I just got the curve and when i first powered it on it would display my phone # on the home screen how do i get that back and second i set up a yahoo mail account on it and it will not display my new messages.
I've found this really useful since getting my new 5800 XPressMusic last week. However this morning I received a acknowledgement reply from Nokia support into my gmail account - but nothing was announced on the phone.Tried "Send & Receive" but that hasn't worked either. Was working fine last week.Any ideas please ? Maybe related to some app downloading at the weekend? Just sent a 2nd test message to gmail - again not appeared on phone.
after I updated to the new v50 software I can't seem to be able to find a way to set up a pop3 homtail account. every option to set up an email leads me to the nokia messaging app which I don't like to use as the sync option is seriously unreliable. I can set up a pop3 account?
For some reason my 5800 phone has recently stopped retrieving emails from my IMAP inbox. No changes on the servet but I have recently installed the latest firmware 50.2.005 and all applications are up to date.
The problem is I go to inbox click on Connect and it says updating mailbox, sometimes it will download the new messages and sometimes I have to do it several times. Also the connection to the mailbox is immediately droppped. There is no "exiting will disconnect from mailbox" prompt when I exit so that shows that it is not connected. Then when I try to open a new or even an old message it connects and says updating mailbox and then sometimes the email application closes, sometimes it does not do anything and goes back to message list, sometimes it will show the message with no body and sometimes it shows an error saying could not display message. After trying several times sometimes I get to see the message content. Each time I try to open the email it attempts to connect to internet as it asks me which connection to use so it is evident the phone cannot maintain the connection open.
I have noted that after some firmware upgrade now I only have the option to download headers. Before I believe there was an option to download part of the body aswell.
when trying to delete a message from phone & server it tries to do it but finally just shows a red slash on the message icon. The message is not deleted from server either.
I tried selecting messages from memory card and phone memory and tried deleting the email account and setup from scratch but it is the same everytime.
I am using the default email client. The new Nokia email program is useless because it does not support secure connections which i need to use.
After getting email app to pick up mails again ( see /t5/Messaging-Email-and-Browsing/Nokia-Email-app-has-stopped-working/td-p/679806 ), there is no longer an alert. They arrive OK onto my home menu, but no sound !
Due to user error (!!) I created an email folder that is now no longer needed (connection data is wrong, folder name is wrong etc, etc).Is there any way to delete this folder from the Messaging Window and the phone so that I am not reminded of my "mistakes" every time I write or read a new message?
I have setup 9 email accounts on my E72 through nokia messaging. Since the E72 home screen can ONLY fit 2 accounts (primary and secondary), my other 6 email accounts are left in cold. There are NO notifications whatsoever for these accounts - no flashing lights, no email icon on the bottom of the screen, no sound, etc.Yet, when I go into the email app and find the six other email accounts, there are new messages!Even on an old E61 there is email notifications on the home screen for all the accounts.Perhaps nobody in the Nokia development team has more than two email accounts?
How to remove the "new email" icon on the homescreen from my X6? I've checked and read all emails, and it still won't go away. I'm running Mail for Exchange and Emoze. I've also tried turning the phone off and on again
I have an unusual icon appeared on my homescreen for the first time, and I don't know how to clear it. My email icon, which is a transparent envelope, now has a small orange envelope inside it. I have no emails waiting, in fact I have cleared the inbox to be sure. I have consulted the icons PDF doc on the BB site but that doesn't list it. I have tried a re-boot.
My iphone4 developed an email glitch today. When I try to open an email, delete an email, or just scroll down the list of emails, the app blinks off and returns to the home page. I tried turning the phone on and off, and also tried resetting without success.
