Nokia :: 5230 - Device Keeps Connecting To Internet
Mar 23, 2010Whenever I turn my phone on, within a few seconds it has connected to the internet, which is draining my phone credit. I've tried changing the following: Settings -> Connectivity -> Admin Settings -> Packet Data -> When Needed / When Available but this doesn't make a difference. And within minutes of going through Settings -> Connectivity -> Connection Manager. The WAP has reconnected.

Jun 11, 2010I bought a Nokia 5230 for my wife a few days ago (neither of us know a great deal about mobile phones) and whenever the phone is on, it seems to connect to the Internet, which uses up all our talk time (we don't yet have a contract with a phone company).We have tried all the settings to keep the Internet disconnected, but it still seems to be happening? This is really infuriating!

Nokia 5230 trying to connect via USB (W7 64 bit) OVI v 2.1.1.1 and now will not show up. Have tried repairing all Nokia Software - even deleted everything and reloaded.Get "Installing Device Driver software - Installing support software - Installation failed"Nokia 5230 setting up - nothing happens.Every time plug the phone in via USB it goes through "installing device software".What has changed and why can I not connect now?

First problem:Updating my device;When I try to update my device, it hangs for a few seconds on 'connecting', then I get a connection error. I can connect to the net easy enough, but not update my device.
Second problem.Installing Ebuddy;I've downloaded the popular social networking application to my phone, but when it comes to installing it, i get the error message saying "CONNECTION FAILED! Your internet settings must be activated for Java applications, or try again later.

E.g.: Bluetooth, I have read, that N5230 supports only Bluetooth DUN, not LAN.Is it possible to use Bluetooth DUN in Nokia 5230 to connect to PC via USB Bluetooth adapter with DUN capability to share PC internet in mobile? Why? I do not have any gprs, edge in my mobile, therefore I want to share internet from my PC.

Jun 15, 2010I have no problems with using the 5230 as a tethered device when connected with USB using Ovi Suite. However, when trying the same when the 5230 is connected via bluetooth Ovi Suite tells me that the "device is not connected" (or similar). It is connected - I can transfer photos, read SMS, send SMS, install apps etc etc under bluetooth. It just won't allow me to use it as a modem. I appreciate that using bluetooth to tether is not ideal, but there are sometimes when I am out and about with my netbook where I might not have the USB cable around.

Feb 27, 2010My wife has just got a new 5230, and we have come across a couple of issues which I wondered if anyone had answers to.First, when opening the "dialer" option during a call (so you can respond to "press 1 for....." questions), the "keypad" does not display the letters associated with each number (i.e. "ABC" on key 2, etc.). Is there any way of modifying settings to show the letters as well?Second, when using the phone in our new Fiesta, the phone book is displayed in the car as "last name, first name". The phone displays as "first name, last name" which is what we want. Using my phone in the same car (Nokia 3109), the car displays "first name, last name". I've got round the problem by putting each of the phone book entries into the Last name field only, but this obviously isn't ideal. Again, any ideas? I asked this question to the Nokia help desk, and got a generic "this is how you connect to the car using blue tooth" answer, which was no help at all!

It stated that i did not have the correct license to listen to it and that i should try to get it over air. It then leads me onto the internet where i have to enter in my Ovi store username and password, i enter in the correct details but it tells me that i need to allow cookies to access the next page, the only problem is that i have already allowed cookies, why does it not recognize this?

Jul 31, 2010I have a Nokia 5230 which I have updated the maps via Ovi suite on my PC,. However when I go to Ovi maps on my phone it always says connection failed, if I try to go to my location I get the red dot flashing searching for position then will go solid for a short while and start to flash again, it gives my location about 1 mile from where I am. Also from the OVI maps screen if I try to sign into my Nokia accost,(To get A-GPS I think) I get the message saying this requires you to go online, 'yes' brings up the connection failed message. I can browse the internet and go to face book etc.

Feb 28, 2010I bought my x6 today, and thought it was a great little phone. I haven't had any of the usb problems that people have, but it just insists on connecting to the internet. I set the phone to receive my emails on a whim and mostly for the novelty, and about 5 minutes after closing it, I noticed it was still connected. I tried exiting it through all the various different menu screens, but it wouldn't go away.
Eventually, I deleted the mailbox, but it was still connected. I then took to holding the hang up button to make it disconnect, which I thought was a success, only to find out it's connected its self again a minute later. I'm on t-mobile, and it's connecting to the packet data "T-mobile internet" access point, or at least the little 3G icon is always up. I've just tried setting it to "always ask", and it does it any way.

Aug 20, 2010I have 5230 purchased tow months back. I am having pocket internet connection activated from Aircel. With this connection I could not use the maps option since I am getting 'no connection' reply. When I contacted the cc of Aircel the asked me to send one sms "GPRS BP NOK 5230". If I send this sms I am immediately getting a reply message stating that "Your request could not be complied since your hand set is not compatible for GPRS setting". Pl clarify whether it is true that 5230 is not a compatible hand set for GPRS or tell me how to get Gprs activated to my hand set.

Feb 15, 2010My phone will connect to my WLAN at home for no apparent reason (as in I'm not using the any application which requires interweb) and when I get annoyed and disconnect from that because it is just EATING my battery it think "Jesus there's no internet connection" panics then connects via gprs or whatever. Now I turned off the email program because it is eating my battery constantly being connected and am having to charge it every night! But is there any way of making it so that it only connects when the program is open? Any thoughts?

May 15, 2011I was using Windows XP Pro 32bit until recently and never had any problems connecting tot he internet with my N8. Recently I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. I can still connect to the internet without any problems, but the problem I have is that the internet is "slow", although I have a 3.5G connection.
I have watched the "status" of my connection and I can see that what happens is that some data will come through, and then nothing will happen for a while, and then some data will go through again. So it's a kind of intermittent connection. This is super annoying, and it's hard to google this problem.
I also have a Nokia N82 and that doesn't give me the same problem, but i don't want to swap my simcard each time I want to use the internet.
