Motorola Photon 4G :: Enable "charge Only" Mode When Connecting It To A Pc?
Aug 29, 2011
how do I get the photon to get "charge only" mode when connecting the photon to a pc?I have 2 operating systems, 1 tablet with windows 7 professional 32 bit tablet pc, and 1 laptop with windows xp professional 32 bit. Some other people were saying as soon as they plug in their photon to their PC, they can drop down the notification menu from where the clock, signal indicator is and see this option. I do not have this when trying to connect - all it does is "charge" but I am able to make/receive calls this way. Both OS's do not recognize the photon, and there are no errors in device manager.I also did the OTA update to MR5 from sprint over wifi.Is there a link to the application or correct drivers I need for this? Also how can I test to see if this will work?
so Im tryin to put some files on my phone i pull the notification bar down click the usb notification i hit usb mass storage and nothing happens i go back to it and its back on charge mode and i cant change it at all it wont do anything everytime i try media link, and portal will not work either please someone help i have some important stuff to put on the phone and im unable to do so...
On my previous Motorola International smartphone, XPRT (MB612) there were FOUR options when connected to a computer:Motorola Phone PortalWindows Media SyncUSB Mass StorageCharge OnlyOn the Photon Q (XT897) only three options are shown...Mass StorageMedia Device (MTP)Camera (PTP)..and there appears to be no way to allow the PQ to be connected via USB to a computer, widescreen TV, blu-ray player, or any device other than a simple charger just to keep the battery up while in "normal" mode. For example, when connected to my Samsung LED LCD flatscreen via HDMI to show videos or pictures, it would be nice to be able to also connect via USB to keep the battery charged.
Instead, immediately on connection of the devices via USB, the PQ unmounts the SD card (where the videos and pictures are stored) and goes into the Mass Storage, Media Device, or Camera mode.Is anyone aware of any way to have the PQ connected to a computer or other device not specifically a charger without having the PQ go into some special mode and demount the SD card?
I would like my phone to vibrate for text messages and all other notifications when set to silent without having it vibrate at all times, is this possible? If I go to menu/settings/sound/ and select vibrate in silent mode it won't vibrate when im in silent mode. The only way for it to vibrate is to go to Text messaging/menu/messaging settings/ and select vibrate(also vibrate when notified) but this makes the phone vibrate at all times which is what I dont want. I took the phone to a sprint repair center and the display model did the same thing, the tech just thought it was weird and that was it.....
Anyone having issue with the Photon not charging and connecting to pc's usb. I beleive one problem caused the other - 1st i couldnt charge my batter in the wall so i wanted to see if it was the charger - grab'd my evo charger and still nothing so i pluged it up to the usb and my pc isnt recognizing the device. Drvers were already instaqll and i used the Moto Media Link to sync music and pic yesterday. Ive hardkey reset my phone, now its charging but still not getting anywhere with the usb connection.
I have had a Motorola Photon for a few months now and I love it........until now.I plugged my phone in last night before I went to bed and the screen turned on, which told me the phone was charging. I woke up this morning and found that my phone was at 20% battery life and hadn't charged all night. I walked downstairs and tested the phone on another wall charger I have and it did not work either. I then plugged it into my computer and viola, my phone starts charging. On the way to work, I plugged the phone into my car charger and the phone would still not receive a charge but the screen would turn on. I got to work, where I just happen to sell phones, and tested a different Photon battery from a demo phone to see if that was the issue. To no avail, my phone still didn't charge. When I plug my phone in with an A/C charger, the screen turns on but the phone does not accept a chargeWhen I plug the phone into a USB cable connected to my Macbook Pro, the phone charges with no problems.
How to wirelessly connected to their home computer? The phone sees my computer's ip addy through the Files Icon but I keeps asking for my "username" and "password". I do not have a user name or password to put in there atleast I dont think I do. I have a password for my home network but no username.
So about half an hr ago i got a prompt to update my phone to (45.2.5.en.US) and it installed successfully, then I had problems with WiFi and so restarted my phone, now when I try to access any app that requires WiFi it seems as though it doesn't read it. The browser works fine, but any other app doesn't.
My Photon sees the network and allows me to enter a password, but then attempts to connect, scans again and boots me out. The message it says that the network is disabled.
Help! My photon will not hold a charge. It charge up to 100%, but it will be dead after a couple hours with little or no use. I have changed the battery and that did not help. I have check the backlight, made sure that nothing is running in the background and I don't get any emails forwarded to the phone.
I've been having problems getting my phone(s) to charge. Here's a chronology of events.First time:I'd been messing with my phone all night on the second day I got the phone, setting up screens and what not and it just died. I plugged it into the charger and nothing for a few minutes and then the LED turned on and was white. It wouldn't start or go into charging mode. I removed the battery several times and left it out for several minutes. After leaving it plugged in for a few minutes, the LED turned green but still no startup or charging mode. After several more minutes, it finally went into charge mode and the LED turned orange and was 0%! Another 10 minutes and it was 15% and booted fine. I was using a battery widget to have %battery in the notifications. It had stopped working and was stuck at 50% (I was really impressed with battery life until it died). I was using both the Circle Battery widget and Battery Monitor Widget.
Did a factory reset and changed battery widgets after the first time above. Used it for two more days without charging issue.Second time:This time, I did get a low battery notice at 20% and I plugged into a USB port but nothing. I then plugged into a wall outlet and nothing. I tried multiple cables/ports/outlets and the phone eventually died before I could get it to charge. It took another 45 minutes to get it charging again with the battery dead. It charged to 100% yet the white LED would not go out with the phone off. I was using the Battery Monitor Widget and Battery Notifier (big text) widget.I took the phone back to Best Buy thinking it might be a bad battery or bad phone and they provided an full exchangehird time:his was within a half hour of getting the new phone, I plugged it into my computer USB and it wouldn't charge. I don't believe I had put any battery widgets back on but I may be mistaken. I plugged it into the wall outlet and it wouldn't charge. I rebooted the phone and it charged.
I have tried lightly pressing the power button to get this puppy to sleep, but the battery runs down anyway. So, maybe I'm doing something wrong. How do you get the xoom to sleep?
USB Computer Connection is always stuck on "Charge Only" no matter what option you choose? I am able to choose the other 3 options (with the blue checkmark toggling in the checkboxes), but nothing happens. When I exit and pull down the connection from the notifications list it just reverts back to "Charge Only" no matter what I try.
I've searched around and still can't find an answer to this specific problem... but I have a feeling it might have to do with that November Update. Today was the first time I tried to connect my phone as "Mass Storage" to transfer music files since before the update. It worked completely fine before the update... anyone know how to resolve this?
I'm using the official Motorola micro USB cable that came with the phone, have tried unmounting the SD card, resetting/powering off the phone, tried every single USB port on my computer and laptop (both Windows7). I'm very confused why I suddenly can't enter "Mass Storage" mode anymore...
I love my Atrix HD but one key feature that is missing is the ability to enable and disable LTE mode. By that I do not mean just turning on and off data services. Many other Android phones have the ability to select the radio band that you wish to use. It gives the owner of the product the ability to move down to 3G or Edge service if he or she wishes. As it is now we are all forced into LTE mode.
Looking through the videos on the Motorola website, while using the camera they show using the 'Multi-Shot' mode. I do not see that. Is there some way to enable it?
The dreaded fast battery drain finally starting happening to me the past couple of days. Last night I checked the battery usage and noticed something called 'RILD' was using up 14% of my battery life. What is it? Can you get rid of it? Why was it appearing last night but today after power cycling my phone it's no longer on the list of battery uses?
In addition I noticed that it seems to be taking much longer to charge my battery now than it did before. My car charger seems to be ineffective at charging even though it appears to be working correctly. The light on the charger is lighting up and my phone's indicator is showing it as being charged. But after 30 minutes of charging it hasn't budged the battery meter one iota.
I looked around and couldn't find a definitive answer to this question: what's the best Network Mode setting? I've seen some claims that setting to Automatic improves 3G performance (and a short test did seem to confirm that), whereas some people have recommended Any CDMA. I was on Automatic on the way to work today and experienced spotty 3G connectivity--causative or coincidence?
I have been using the Photon for months but can not seem to find the area that manages when the Photon goes into silent mode.I thought it was in the custom battery mode. I set it to Custom battery saver, set the Off-peak hours to start at 10pm and end at 5 am.My alarm goes off at 5:30 am but it never rings, even though I have it set in the alarm setting to do so.
I have noticed that the phone automatically changes to silent mode around 9pm and will not auto switch back until 8 or 9am. I get fustrated and set it to ring when I first use the phone in the morning. Is there some file that I need to edit to get my time window in? This is driving me a bit nuts, lol.
So I noticed in Chrome the virtual keyboard doesn't load in portrait mode. Also I noticed that the qwerty keyboard is unable to capitialize letters. also function button seems to be disabled making signing into anything in chrome virtually impossible.
I need to do some testing with a UMTS femto cell. (reason behind my madness)Does anyone know if it is possible to flip the photon in a UMTS mode and then back to a normal state when done?
I primarily use my notebook to charge my Droid 4 through USB. With the ICS update, I can't choose a "charge only" option anymore. I now have to make sure to safely remove the drives before unplugging the phone. Is there a way to get the "charge only" option back?
Everytime I connect my Droid3 to the computer my Droid Pulls pictures and music FROM my PC and puts it on the phone. Sometimes it will pull All of my pictures, and sometimes it randomly selects 2 or 3 HUNDRED of them. I recently decided to add some music to my phone and as I was creating my "playlist" to sync to my droid, I noticed that something was happening. Before I even hit sync, my phone pulled ALL of the music off my computer and stored it on my phone.
I have tried to delete the pictures by going into the file on the computer and I get half way through when it locks up. I have to delete EACH picture.
I have gone to the Verizon Store, they have never heard of this happening. They did a reset, which thrilled me because I lost all of my ringtones and downloaded apps. It also erased all the personalized ringtones I had set.
When I am typing messages and the phone goes into landscape mode because I tilted it a bit, it shows the list of texts from the top even though the newest texts are at the bottom. Is there some way to prevent this?
Just goofing around, I figured out that there may be a workaround to the lack of a charge-only mode, at least on Windows systems. Connect the phone, and it will show up as a mass-storage device in Windows Explorer and start charging the phone. Now, click the tray icon to "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media." That disconnects the mass storage device, yet leaves the charger working.
If I connect the phone to my computer in the MSC mode, I have access to it via Windows Explorer etc., so e.g. I can load music onto my phone, but I cannot install Apps. If I try to do so in the MSC mode, Google Play tells me that the download of the app will start soon, but then nothing happens. If I connect the XPeria in the MTP mode, nothing happens except that my computer utters the first tone of the "USB connected"-signal three times. In the MTP mode the Sony PC companion also tells me that itīs not possible to connect the phone.I reinstalled the PC Companion, restarted my computer and my phone but nothing changed. Is there any possibility to install Apps in the MSC mode? If not, how can I make the MTP mode work again?
My Photon has developed an issue in the last couple weeks. For an unkown reason the sound quits working. When it stops working there is no sound for anything, dailer key pads, notifications, ringers, etc. It all just shuts off. The only way to restore sounds is by a restart. I have started trying to track it down, but I haven't found the cause yet.
