Motorola Atrix 4G :: Portal File Manager Not Working?
Jun 17, 2011
I'm a smart phone user for a whole month now, so you may need to type slowly because I'm still pretty ignorant.'m trying to figure out the best way to get music onto my Atrix. The music right now would mostly come from CDs. I can never seem to make Windows Media Player do what I want it to do, and so syncing from that has not been much fun, although it has partially been successful.I just discovered Moto Phone Portal (MPP), and so I thought I might use that to transfer music by just moving files by WiFi, but I cannot get the File Manager in MPP to work. All other parts of the software appear to work just fine. When I click on the File Manager tab, and then choose either "Internal" or "External", nothing happens after that. I prefer the WiFi to USB since I'm too lazy to drag out the USB cable. This is on a Windows Vista computer, using either Firefox 4 or Internet Explorer 9 (same result either way).
Moto Phone Portal - when I choose "Compose" a new SMS and click "send to" if I try to drag a contact from the list at the right nothing happens - they can't be dragged, and if I try to copy and paste the contact's number - when I click paste the number shows momentartily then disappears! Useless... IE 9.0.8112.16421, Windows 7 x64 pro SP1
I have a .nomedia file in my downloads directory to keep downloaded media from being added to the libraries. After the update this no longer works. Ant downloaded pics are getting added to the gallery automatically.
Using the stock File Manager app I can see audio files on my Maxx HD's internal storage and also on the SD card. I happen to be looking at ringtone files. If I tap on the filename to play the ringtone, Amazon Cloudplayer pops up and shows all the music files on my SD card. No ringtones can be found. If I back out of Amazon Cloudplayer and use the file manager to try finding and playing ANY audio file on EITHER my SD card or the internal storage I get sent to Amazon Cloudplayer. I then have to use the back button to get back to the file manager icon in the App drawer. Same thing happens if I try to play audio files on my SD card. Amazon Cloud Player pops up. I don't want to use Amazon Cloud Player to play an audio file in SD storage.
If I connect my phone to my PC and navigate to the ringtones on internal storage and click on them they play as per usual (Windows media player). If I use my PC to play audio files on the SD card they play as usual. Why does my phone default to Amazon Cloud Player when I tap on an audio file in File Manager? What is the stock audio file player on the Maxx HD? Why can't I browse to an audio file with the file manager and tap on it and have it play? How do I fix this?
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I type the address into my browser, and it says the link is broken. Does it have to be through firefox?
The weight Goal section is not working correctly. The graph is stuck on week 8, even though I'm on week 13 it says. I updated my weight goals, but the graph never reset to the new start weight and target dates.
I received the 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OTA update for my Droid Razr on Tuesday morning July 3, 2012. The install was uneventful. One feature of the previous operating system I use frequently is File Manager. I noticed that after the OTA update to ICS that the feature to "Move" does not work, or at least doesn't allow me to move files from Internal Storage to the SD Card. I searched the Forums and didn't find any discussions about File Manager not working the same in ICS as it did in Ginger Bread. I read the numerous marketing guides and preparation documents that were published on the Motorola Razr website and didn't read anything about File Manager changing. I downloaded the new Razr Operating Guide for ICS and found no discussion about File Manager being different.
I tried Motorola Live Chat and ended up getting referred to Level 2 Tech Support. I have powered the device off and on numerous times in the last 48 hours. I have also done a Power + Volume Down restart but the Move option is still not working. Specifically, I can select a file from a folder in Internal Phone Storage and select Move. I can press the Back arrow-key but as soon as I am back at the File Manager main screen (so I can select SD Card), the option to Move disappears. If I press SD Card (like I did before with Ginger Bread) the Move button does not reappear at the bottom of the page.
Why is there no File no standardized file manager or explorer concept where you can manage your data on your Micro SD card. Select lots of files and move them into a folder. Rotate mulitple pictures and email mulitiple file easily? Why is this not standardized on all blackberrys
By mistake I deleted a file from phone memory in the file manager. Is to important to have all the orgianal files in the file manager or do I reload the software. What do I do. i have a E 7.
I have had the atrix since it came out with a 32gig sd card, I store all my videos/pictures on it. I have never had any problems. After the 4.1.57 updated I have been having issues. Im not blaming the update I dont know what is wrong but its somthing I did look into.I record Videos, and then my phone will not play themback, It will show a preview of the video but then say "file cannot be displayed or played". Sometimes it lets me watch the video at first, but then the next time i go to watch it I get that error and its for good i wont be allowed to watch the video again. As for the pictures, Ill take pictures and it will show a preview of the picture but it wont let me click it and view it . I do not get a error msg with the pictures, It just simply wont let me view the pictures. Transfer those files that i cant watch or view to my computer, and my computer says it doesnt reconize the file format. But then when I look at the file type of that file that isnt working with a file that does work on my computer, its the same exact file fromat so i dont understand that?
I at first did pull out my sdcard/sim/battery didnt solve the problem. so i did a factory reset and that still didnt fix the problem. I also tried to switch the videos/picture that isnt working onto my external space on my phone and I get the same deal. Im also allowed to play music just find off my sdcard, its only videos/pictures my phone is having problems with. This is very frusterating since I use my camera almost everyday, and my sons first birthday is coming up this saturday and i wanted to record it all and burn it to a dvd but that is starting to seem unlikey and this is very frusterating. I called motorola and Im told to call back monday to talk to a higher level tech when there open.
When I try to play an AVI video file (from an 808 keychain camera) that I copied from my computer to the phone SD card, the file comes up & plays but all I get is audio with a blank/black screen. The files play fine on the computer. I tried small ( 8mg ) files but no difference. I use the stock media player w/ flash player which has worked great for everything up till now. OS is 2.3.6.
i have an Atrix 4g (stock)running gingerbread 2.3.6 i noticed a file listed as LOST.DIR. on my internal memory when i open it the names of the files are listed as numbers ranging from 92 to 1315. 126 files in total. when i try to open them it keeps saying "unable to open this type of file". when i long click it for file options and click info it shows me file properties with the following info "? 98 TYPE:FILE, FOLDER:/MNT/SDCARD/LOST.DIR, SIZE: 4KB, MODIFIED ON: DEC 31, 1979 7:00PM". every file size is 4kb and they all say modified on Dec 31, 1979 @ 7:00pm. can any one out there please tell me what this is and if they are safe to delete or how to restore the files. i am very confused about the modified date, i was 2yrs old in 1979
When i convert video to mp4 mode and sync it to my atrix it won't play. It saids file cannot be displayed or played. i have tried couple mp4, the h264, mpeg-4, all doesn't play in my phone.
One problem I am having is that I will occasionally get an error message when trying to play a media file that I know the phone supports that says "the player does not support this type of file", or something like that. If I turn the phone off and back on, it plays fine, but will then give me the error later on in the day. The types of files I am trying to play are mp3 and xvid avi. One idea I have is that the music player widget is cause the problem because if you play an mp3, but then try to do something else while it plays(multitask) it will not play in the background like it used to. You have to actually go into the media player and create a now playing list. This is very annoying to me as I play a lot of media on my phone throughout the day and currently have to restart my phone 2 or 3 times.
I am trying to transfer my music, ringtones to my new atrix 4g and from what I have gathered from various postings I need to make separate folders for everything...such as notifications, ringtones, and texting tones. Seems kind of silly to me since some of these files have dual functionality and I do not want to have the same file in multiple folders to serve different purposes.
If there is a list of suggested folder locations/names for the atrix either on an sd card or the onboard memory I cant seem to find it anywhere. To sum up my request I would hopefully like a single folder where I can have all my tones for ringtones, notifications tones, and alarm clock tones including being able to attach specific ringtones to contacts in my address book.
I noticed, using Android File Transfer AND USB Mass Storage, some flakiness. The drive/directories are usually detected but in the process of a copy, it fails then won't recognize the Atrix HD unless I unplug and re-connect.
In an effort to "squeeze" as much life out of my battery as possible I decided to take a Moto Rep's video/recommendation and use the stock Task Manager to turn off selected apps 2 minutes after screen off. This strategy worked pretty good on my Pro, but it doesn't do so well on the Razr. After monitoring the stock Task Manager now for a week, it appears that it does not turn off selected apps after 2 minutes of screen off. We all realize the battery demand on the Razr and there is a lot of experimentation going on (that is a good thing) to develop settings (Smart Actions etc) that prolong time between charges. It would be nice if we could have an effective Task Manager (stock and Moto approved) that would be another "tool in the tool box".
I've been using my Bionic for about 24 hrs now (pretty heavy useage) and only 3 items show up in the "Battery and Data Manager":
Southwest Airlines App (96%)
Cell Standby (2%)
Phone Idle (2%)
That's it. I've used about 30 different apps and I've had WiFi on and off, I've been on LTE and switched to CDMA only for a bit. I've tried out the GPS, used Google Talk, the browser and a bunch of other stuff that I know takes up battery life and I want to know what is killing the battery? Is there a fix for the Battery and Data Manager or somewhere else on the phone I can look for this info?
When I open an image in file manager it does not open. An image viewer opens but does not display the image. Then I've to restart the phone to get rid of image viewer from open apps.
Need to occasionally refer to about 500 Microsoft Word documents and now that I have the Storm 2, is there a good app at the Crackberry store that can organize the document files for easy selection?
Presently using Documents to Go but if anyone can suggest another app on the Crackberry store that can do better, I would like to know. I don't need to edit, just need to be able to read the documents easily.
in my PC i found some error and i want to uninstall BlackBerry Device Manager 6.0, but i can because uninstallation need "BlackBerryDevice Manager_ENG.msi" (version 6).
I used to use ES file manager to manage my files on my xperia SP. Now I had xperia Z2, but I can't use ES file manager the way I used to. I mean : if I want to move for example a picture from my internal phone memory to the External SD card , message pops up telling that the task failed.
Then I press on Task Details and a Hint pops up saying: Your system forbidsES from writing on external SD card(check [URL] .....), so ES can only write on it after rooted. I tried to enter this url but couldn't, an error occured saying :
Your client does not have permission to get URL /p/android/issues/detail from this server.
after installing oi file manager on my phone, what will happen next, what do i have to expect and can i immediately access games downloaded from my pc and not from android market.
I have E71, I used to see the foldersand files in my memory card using file manager, but due to some virus, i took backup of memory card formatted it. the backup folder on my desktop was subjected to virus removal, and then again i restored the clean files to my memory card. but now i can not see the folder in my memory card using nokia e71 file manager but can see the files and folders using Mass Storage mode.
I can't use File Manager properly on W508a. When I press Options the only menu that comes up is for shortcuts! I want to transfer files from the phone to the card. Also I can't use the walkman function for files on the card, so I have to keep the phone open to listen to files on the card. The only way I can move files around is by doing it on the computer - which defeats the purpose. If I press options in any mode (I have just found this out as I have only just got this phone) the only menu I get is Shortcuts. Is this my fault or is it the phone?
Just played with nexus 6p at a store. Pretty disappointed with the file manager integration with email. I couldn't attach multiple files from dropbox while composing emails. It opens the Downloader and shows dropbox but it only attaches one file at a time (even that failed saying can't attach empty file after repeated attempts)...
I remember you could do the same if you've your files in Google drive!!
