IPhone :: AT&T Customer Service Experience / IP Upgrade
Jun 12, 2010
like many of you I've purchased all 3 iPhones to date on the first day they became available. I've been on my own individual plan for all of these purchase.. now I'm married and added my wife last July 11th under the "Family Plan" umbrella with a new 3GS. So there you have it.. we both have iPhone 3GS's purchased within 3 weeks of each other. Here's my problem: MY number (the main line) is eligible for an upgrade at the promotional price; my wife's number is not eligible until mid-March. Even though this phone was purchased 3 week after mine. First of all, neither AT&T Customer Relations, AT&T Customer Care or the ding dong at the corporate store can tell me ANYthing over the phone unless I drive myself all the way up to my nearest AT&T corporate store and debate common sense theories with him in person. He says only the main number will be eligible for an upgrade.. I say "So basically it's cheaper to my $120 ETF and start a new account instead of paying the full retail price $699 (400 dollar spread between promo rate and full retail). Would this not appear to create an incredible amount of busy paperwork for AT&T employees? So long story short, it would appear that if upgrading to new iPhones every year is your thing.. it's best to have two separate individual plans coming into your home instead of AT&T's Family Plan.Curious if I'm missing something, if this sounds right or any input you guys may have.
I ordered a phone through a line that was upgrade eligible for another line. They said that when I get the phone I call AT&T and get the SIM card ready to be activated for the other line.I called them up and gave them the "IMEI" number. They said that that iPhone 4 was now associated with my other line. However, when I plugged it into iTunes, it still said the original line. The customer service rep insisted that when it was activated it would activate on the correct line.Sure enough, it didn't. It activated on the original line - now I am stuck without an iPhone 4 - I don't have an AT&T store where I live so I can't just get a replacement SIM card. The original lines phone is now deactivated and activated with MY iPhone 4. I now have to wait for them to ship out a SIM card which will take another WEEK.Because of AT&T I am now left without a phone, my iPhone 4 is now activated on another line, and thus have to wait a week to get it fixed.Thank you AT&T for screwing up again, further proving you to be the worst wireless carrier I have ever been a customer of.
I use the iphone more than a year, is best have a lock on machine, now in China, China can't use SIM card, can you tell me how to contact customer service?
An Apple customer service representative just informed me that today, they were informed that there is a limit of only one iPhone for online order per account, no matter what the eligibility of your various AT&T lines are. I ordered each of my iP4's separately, although they're under the same family plan. He said, "It wasn't announced and we, or at least I, was just informed about this today, but you can only order 1 iPhone online. We've actually had a lot of people calling about order cancellations." I specifically asked him why this was the case if multiple numbers on a family plan are eligible for an upgrade, but he was unable to answer. He stated that we would have to purchase our second iPhone 4 in store and that everyone who ordered more than one iPhone will have all but one of their orders cancelled.I've ordered 2 iP4's. One has been shipped, and the other has, "Not yet Shipped." The rep looked up my order for the phone that hasn't been shipped yet and said that there is a hold on it because we're only allowed to order one iPhone 4 online. So, if what this rep said is true, how can so many people claim that both of their orders have been shipped? Here's another thread stating the same thing: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=943290
I have never had this happen to any other Nokia LCD device before or any other similar device that I have owned. There is definitely some strange issue, as when the screen goes fuzzy, if you lock the phone and then place it on or near a heat source for a few moments, when you unlock it the screen is mysteriously working again. This is a very frustrating issue which is exacerbated by the fact that the device is of the touchscreen variety which effectively renders it useless as if you can't see the screen then you can't see the buttons to control the infernal machine! Unless that is you are able to memorise the menus positions and also that of their sub-menus and options! Anyway, one thing I will say is that the service from Nokia is absolutely amzing when it comes to repairing them. I used the online form at http://www.nokia.co.uk/support/repair/repair/warranty?c=1 and they sent a UPS guy who arrived to collect the device the ver next day! That was last Monday, the 29th March, and I received back a brand new Nokia 5800 today!
Obviously rather than repair the device they have just replaced it with the revised model that they are obviously producing now that they have realised and rectified their errors. I am very impressed with getting a new device and so quickly too! Only thing is, they don't send you a new back for the phone, as they tell you to keep yours at home and not send it to them, so if your back is worn it will look out of place with the brand new phone if thats the route that they take with your case, which I think they will, or rather should. That is because I have heard that people that were getting their original device repaired and returned to them the problem was recurring soon after it being returned to the user. Props to Nokia though on replacing my 5800! I must say that at first when I sent it I thought I was going to be waiting for ages, but as I said I only waited a week and they even have a widget on their repair part of the site that tells you the status of your repair and where they are with it, all you have to do it type in your case number.
i've upgraded my iPhone 4 to 5.1.1 and now experience the best part of it...NO SERVICE. Tried restoring and it doesn't help. When I get signal, I don't get 3G, I can make outgoing calls but no incoming call at all.
I thought I would share my experience of trying to get my activation fee waived.Well it took me 3 calls to ATT but I finally got my fee waived as a one time courtesy. My first two calls ended in failure. I was polite yet stern with both reps and told them I think its absurd to charge $36 activation fee on a phone that I activated myself and that I think paying $2000 over two year contract is worthy for them to waive this bogus $36 charge. Both reps talked to supervisors but told me there was no way they could remove the fee because it is a legitimate charge due to a deal they have with apple. They said if it was any other phone but the Iphone they could do it.
At this point i didnt think it was possible to get it waived but I decided to call one more time and try. This time a guy picked up and I asked him if there was anyway they could waive the activation fee. He didnt need to speak to any supervisor and just straight up told me that he understands my complaint and will remove the fee as a one time courtesy. It was so simple and yet it saved me $42 on my first bill. HUGE!So if anyone is having problems trying to get there activation fee waived I suggest to keep calling back until you get a decent rep. SO yeah be persistent and it could save you some money.
After upgrading to ios 5.1.1 the service stopped working properly and or dropped calls more common? Also failure to get service in locations you used to, and also poor wifi connections?
I've upgraded my iPhone 3GS to iOS v. 5.1.1 and now both my phone service and data service are no longer working. I called AT&T's (my carrier) tech support and they got it working for a few minutes but as soon as I got off the phone with the agent it stopped working! My account with them is current.
Me and my fiancée want to get the IPhone 4 but I've been hearing that apple wont sell or activate two IPones to the same family plan. How would I go about preordering? I called apple and At&t and they didn't have a clear answer.
So my story goes as this, I called customer care to inquire about the white iPhones and if there was any new information while also expressing my complaint for the time wasted trying to pre-order. I was extremely kind and it felt like a normal conversation between friends. In the middle of the conversation before I mentioned how much time I wasted, I said that I've adopted each of the iPhone's as I am a phone fanatic. He quickly interrupted and said, "Let me issue you a coupon". Of course, I did not object to such a generous offer and the coupon he issued was: $30 off $100 $60 off $200 $100 off $300 He stated it couldn't be used on an iPhone or iPad but I know I've used their coupons on things where it shouldn't have worked before. It has an expiration date of 6/26/10 but he stated if I could not use it by then, call them back and they'll issue the same coupon which will last for 3 months. The fine details: 1-800-MY-APPLE and was automatically placed in the customer relations department. I just thought some of you might find it interesting that they are offering coupons due to this complicated ordeal.
Before the official release of iOS 5.1 I installed a developer version (eventhough I'm not a developer). The developer version expired. Now I can't update my iPhone 4S to the official version of iOS 5.1.
In Contacts I can chose the "ringtone" and "text tone" to override the default.I receive a text message from my company's pager system and save that address as a contact. And then set a custom "text tone" for that contact. So now normal test messages arrive with the default tone and pages can sound the "Alarm" It would be nice if I Contacts also let me chose the Alert Style and Repeats.(it would also be nice if Repeats worked at all)
I did a system upgrade a couple of weeks ago after much trepidation.Since then, most times when I switch my phone on, I have "No Service" and have to reboot my phone.
Frankly speaking with most of the Fancy Features that the N900 offers it is a question, how many users choose to use it to its full potential. For a user like me I am gonna use my phone a lot to surf the web, check some cool sites etc.
I have been also checking out Motorola's Droid which has a 3.7" Inch screen with 16:9 wide screen Ratio the other day I had a chance to surf the web on it, and let me tell you guys it was a very good experience. I have still not had my hands on the Nokia N900. Does the N900 also give the same viewing pleasure, which includes excellent picture quality, wide vieweing(what I mean by wide viewing is, not watching anything in constricted, narrow view) Real Life picture colours etc.
What I am saying is with the Droid I did not feel I was watching anything in a very constricted and Narrow view, is the experience and the feeling also the same with the N900.
Another poor user experience delivered by RIM. I just upgraded blackberry desktop software and once again found that many of my settings, such as BBM links to contacts, contact links to my Linked In connections, user ID and passwords to sites such as Linked In and Facebook, and my home screen photo were reset.
I don't understand why RIM lacks consumer focus. No wonder Apple is kicking RIM's butt in the smartphone market - they design products that work well, are simple to use, and do not cause grief or lost data when upgrading software.
After 7 years of owning a blackberry, I am tired of using a product that simply provides a less-than-optimal user experience.
I've lately been considering purchasing a new phone for myself, particularly one that is either a combination of touch screen + keyboard, N900, or all physical, the BB 9700. I've been on these forums for a while ever since the release of the N900, and I know that this being a support forum for Nokia and all, that people are more prone to sharing about their problems rather than success, so that point has been taken into perspective.
For all the N900 owners out there, I was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind answering a few questions please;
1. How would you rate your experience with the N900 from start to present? At least from what I incurred, there was a bit of a "rocky' start but I think it smoothed out? 2. How much potential do you see in the N900, vs. how much is there now - present day? 3. How is the feel of the keyboard? 4. Does the fact that it's a resistive touch screen vs. a capacitive one "ruin" in any way, your experience? 5. (For those that own or have owned a N97 and N900).... How are the two compared with each other? I know we may be talking on diferent levels, but what would you say the N97 is more geared towards, and the N900? 6. Are there any problems that you still experience on a daily basis worth mentioning? i.e. automatic reboots, slowing of the user interface - even when a lot of programs aren't opened, etc.
Please feel free to add any bit of extra advice or insight/information that you'd like to share. Honest opinion is always appreciated!
My N900 micro-USB connector died only few months after I bought it. I sent it off to customer care and now they're telling me the phone is out of warranty due to either being out of the warranty period, being physically damaged or being water damaged. I took good care of the phone and it worked fine until the battery died.
I need to send every email twice to get a response and they never seem to listen to me.I asked them to reevaluate their verdict and then they asked me for proof of purchase - which I already sent with the damn phone! It seems like the people responding to the emails have no connection to the people who actually have the phone at the repair center. What can I do?
I am in the process of experiencing my first smart phone ever! Three days ago I made the decision to get the Droid Eris. I was in love with this phone the first 24 hours and then I started to think of my other options. The Moto Droid is out for me just because I really hate the size of the device... Just not for me. I know am deciding on either the BB Tour or keeping my Droid Eris. I have some following questions that hopefully you can all chip in.
I am mainly going to use my phone for texting/emailing with the whole uploading pictures to facebook and making the occasional tweet. I just graduated college so also looking for a very reliable phone for my "finding a J O B" process. So far the Droid Eris seems to be a very capable phone but there is some hiccups in the facebook/twitter apps and when I am typing on the keyboard there seems to be some spotty lag.
So my questions for you are.
Does the Tour experience spotty lag while texting/emailing?How are the facebook and twitter apps for the blackberry, from my very native knowledge of BB I have heard great things about them.
Is BBM what it is cracked up to be... all my friends just swear by it.Everything I run is google from gmail to calender. Is the BB able to sync like the eris did to all my contacts? Is the BB able to do google talk and is it instantly or is there some delay in receiving emails and msgs through gmail.
First of all I'm mostly using Opera Mini but I wanted to know something. When I go to the Storm's default browser, which is the best Browser Identification? Blackberry, Firefox, or Internet Explorer? I wanted to know for everyone's experience.
I have purchaesed Xperia Ray on 18th March. Recently i have faced display problem. I have given at Service center on 28th May.Thay told within 7-10 days it will take.
I called customer care after 10 days, they are telling some reasons, and they are not giving proper status/ action on this work order. If i want to know the status i need to call more than 4 times per day, to know the status, they will keep in hold to transfer to higher executives or to get the status from the team. I have faced this problem from the last few days. (14-06-12,13-06-12...)
My Work Order No: se312ec111095 Compline ID: ses126005321 Ref No: 93041912, 93091564.
I got fed up with their services, thats y i am sharing my details in this portal.
OK today I was given a replacement Elm under my insurance because for some reason my Elm's speaker stopped working. Anyway got replacement fine all working well. I noticed the replacement had the previous firmware so I decided to update it using SEUS. Now after updating & setting up the phone again I noticed the clear voice & noise shield function had vanished I looked all through the menus & also during call menus but nowhere to be found. So I reinstalled AGAIN only to be greeted with the same problem. I called customer service number & got through right away. Spoke to a Scottish lady who had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. I knew that I was right & she was wrong. She went on to say that the clear call & noise shield function is NOT a feature of the Elm WTF? I said the feature is advertised on the website for the Elm & on the bloody box At this point I asked to speak with someone else & she went off to speak to someone & came back to repeat the same thing again I said how can you say this about it's not a feature of the Elm when it's advertised as it is? She then said when we send out the generic phones we don't put that feature on the phone it's the stores that do? At this point I just gave up & said forget it Has customer service always been that bad? I have not called them for many years but today was shocking
I ordered iP4 in Apple Online Store UK and they shipped it on 5th Aug, today my status changed to "In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule" - but still I cannot find any tracking number from the carrier that will deliver it to me, so my question is, how long do I have to wait for this number ?

My name has accent marks. I write messages to my family in spanish. How can I type accent characters in the Firefox browser inside the Webtop experience? I have Gingerbread on my Atrix.
Or did Motorola break Linux in a way to make typing accent marks impossible?
I'm not sure if there is a defect in my update... but upon completion of update, I noticed that when I drag down the notification panel, immediately below the status bar before the notifications, the words "(No service)" is displayed. I do not remember 1.6 having that... but is it suppose to show my network name? I hope someone could enlighten me. It is irritating having those words there not knowing what it means.
I had a 8330 (for 2 months) that would reboot itself constantly. Does not do it anymore 'cause I returned it for a 8530. The 8530 that I've had since Jan 01 is better, it only does it now and then when it is tethered to my pc.. Rendering it just about useless for my business activities. US Cellular is at a loss. Should I accept this defect as part of the BB experience?
When I got my 5800 I was incredibly unimpressed with pretty much every aspect of it. Utter rubbish.I went online and checked out Nokia's Ovi store and there were about 3 apps there, none of which any good.
Thought I'd use Ovi again today. I couldn't remember what password I used so I went through the password retrival service on my phone. To do this you need to type in some letters displayed onscreen. Only the image doesn't work. On Nokia's phone, running Nokia's app, Nokia's password retrieval is impossible. This typifies everything about Nokia - unwieldy and clunky solutions that fail at every step. Nothing is straightforward or simple to use.
Finally logged on (after going on my PC). Logged on via my phone, went to download an App and "Cannot download due to an error".
I've done everything I know to do (reset network settings, hard reset, software update, restore to factory default, replace sim card) still have not fully resolved the issue. It seems to work periodically at random, but only has 1 or 2 bars where I should normally have full service.
