Google Nexus 5 :: Shut Down All Of A Sudden Without Powering It Off
Aug 18, 2015
My Nexus5 phone shuts down all of a sudden without me powering it off. It is happening every now and then. It also happens when I connect my phone via usb to my laptop. Could this be because I'm testing my apps on my phone using Android Studio. Every time i connect the USB it restarts over and over again.
Why my phone all of a sudden has no service even though my account is in good stand? My phone nexus 5 last week stopped working, when I tried to send a message it says "DATA NETWORK UNAVAILABLE" I could`t make a call either it said: "NO SERVICE" I called my provider to troubleshoot the device with no luck. Later that day I stopped at one of the stores they changed my sim card again no luck, so I decide to call google support to troubleshoot but they could`t figure out what was happening. After I exhausted everything I decided to restore the the phone to the factory setting but in vain. My phone is a NEXUS 5 and the android version 5.1 and it`s about 16 months old.

Yesterday around midnight my phone suddenly stopped working. I wasn't using it, it was just sitting on my desk and had been for at least half an hour.
When I boot it, it stays stuck on the boot animation.
Until yesterday it was running a custom built version of CM12.1 (from this thread: [URL] ...
With a ElementalX-N5-4.09 kernel.
I tried:
Reflashing the ROM Wiping and Reflashing the ROM Wiping and Reflashing the ROM, without ElementalX Wiping and Flashing an older version Wiping and formating of user data too + Reflashing complete reset by doing fastboot oem lock/unlock flashing of the factory image of Android 6
Each time the result is the same. When the phone was still running cyanogen I had adb while it was booting (that's no longer the case) and I saw nothing striking ... it would have one (pc) screen worth of log (logcat) and then nothing it would just stop. I couldn't spot anything in kernel logs either (dmesg/last_kmsg).
The recovery is working fine ... I was able to start an ssh server and use it... it's just android that won't boot.
So I have never had problems with my wifi, until yesterday. I realized the wifi was not on when I got a "Data usage warning" from my phone provider.
I looked at the wifi and it was not connected. When I try and connect to my home network (which my husbands phone, my ps3 and my pc are all connected to without issue) it gives me an "authentication error".
I would assume that would be the password or something, but the password is fine.
I have: - tried turning to airplane mode and back - tried changing it from "auto" to 2.4mghz only as in the troubleshooting guide - tried turning off always scanning - tried restarting the router and modem.
This morning (19 March 2015), my Nexus 5 updated its Google Play Music App to v 5.8.1836R.1787745. Now, once I start the thing, it won't stop. Yes. It stops playing music. But, the app continues to sit in the notification area when I drag down from the top, the Bluetooth "headphones" icon won't go away, and the phone starts to heat up at the top back. How to go back to the old behavior of it just going away when I'm done with it?
At least 5 to 10times it automatically shuts down without any information. It happens more when the battery is below 30%.. How to fix this problem.. Mine is 64GB NEXUS 6 bought in Denmark and using in India.
My Nexus 5 will just shutdown when i am taking photos. Esp when the photo is taken in an environment when more processing is needed like low light area. The phone will just switch off. Pressing the power button would not work at all. The only thing that can revive it is a power surge i.e. plugged in a power source. The phone will revive and the picture is not taken at all.
I was using an app on my Nexus 5 while it was charging and the screen just froze so I locked it and when I tried to unlock it, it didn't work. I also tried the power button but it doesn't do anything. Is there anything I can do? Should I take it to a shop?
So, I had my N5 since 2013 and the battery as the updates went around was up and down until Marshmallow came out, it was amazing. Great speed , battery and everything, but i broke my own rule and updated to 6.0.1 as soon as i was able to. Well since then the battery isn't so good, and whenever I use heavy apps (primarily when i try to multitask between them) the phone will black out and will turn back on with a chunk of battery missing or it used to be dead. Again this only started with new update so I cant totally point at the battery being old as the problem, but as a new bug with update. I cleared cache and reset it. I tried to downgrade it but kept saying there was missing images and such.
I didn't drop it or get it wet or anything, it was just sitting on my desk and it randomly shut off. I've tried shutting it off and on again but it just comes back to the google screen where it sits frozen for about 30ish+ minutes before it shuts off, I can't turn it off otherwise, if I try turning it off it just turns itself back on so I can't shut it off. Is there anything I can do to save my data (or even better, fix my phone) or am I screwed? I also don't have USB Debugging turned on so I can't get stuff back that way either. My phone is not rooted and running stock android 5.1.? (Don't remember my exact version but I think I've missed the last 2 minor updates)....
Was on my Facebook app checking a Notification when suddenly the buttons to return to home screen, back and move between currently running apps stopped working. It is not unusual sometimes the touch screens don't respond and the easiest fix would be to press the power button to go to the lock screen and come back. When I tried turning on the phone to unlock it, it never turned back on.
I've been having random shutdowns lately. And i just got a warranty exchange same thing happens. I have the t-mobile version. i do have the latest version of 5.1.1 ....
My Nexus 5 screen while plugged in has gone completely black, like it's off.
I've tried holding the power button, holding power+volume up, and power+both volumes.
All that happens is a mini vibrate every 10 seconds or so (like the vibrate that occurs when the word Google normally appears) but absolutely no light on the screen...it remains black.
About a month ago the screen/digitizer was replaced because the thing had a mind of its own, clicking everywhere randomly. Until today it was working flawlessly. Twice today it started lagging, forcing me to power off/power on. That worked both times, but now this has happened.
Ever since 5.1.1 rolled out it seems like the battery was draining faster than normal but it was at least usable. Now, my phone will just randomly shut off while i'm in the middle of doing something(so far it has only shut off while i'm using the phone and not while it's idle). When it does shut off it could have between 80% and 100% battery even and then when i turn it back on after it shuts off my battery will be around 15% and will shut off again almost immediately.
If i plug the phone into the charger (with it turned on or off) it will charge to full in less than half an hour so i seriously doubt that the battery is actually draining, but the phone sure thinks it is.
So far to try and fix this i've wiped the cache and also performed a full factory reset and that actually only seemed to make it worse - before the reset this only happened maybe 3 or so times per month...now it's happening 3 or 4 times per day which really makes it unusable. The apps that i'm using when it shuts off are not consistent. It will do it in games, in chrome, in messenger - really anything.
I'm willing to try anything - if I didn't provide enough information about something let me know and i'll be glad to follow up.
My phone randomly shut off and then I when I turn it back on. the infinite boot logo appear. I installed clockworld. tried to reformat everything and reinstall stock image and still nothing.
After fully charging the phone yesterday, when I went out to get food, my phone shut down along the way and being unable to boot. My phone is running on stock 5.0 with no mods
At first, I was able to get to the colored dots loading screen but it would always get stuck there and shut off. Then I keep trying to restart it up and it got worse and worse, now I'm always stuck at the GOOGLE screen. I'm not sure if this is a boot loop issue as it just gets stuck at GOOGLE screen. I tried the recovery mode cache wipe and it gets stuck at the GOOGLE screen in the middle of the wipe.
So this morning, after fiddling around the power buttons some more, I am able to get the battery logo while charging, though it is weird that it shows 100% then completely drained the next minute or so. I try to load into the recovery mode again and this is what I see at the bottom
E: failed to mount /cache (invalid argument) E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log E: failed to mount /cache (invalid argument) E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log E: failed to mount /cache (invalid argument) E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log E: failed to mount /cache (invalid argument)
I'm not sure what to do at this point, I'm still in recovery mode but don't want to push any buttons yet as it was a real struggle to get to this point as I'm always stuck at the GOOGLE screen.
Got my 128 gb 6p last Tuesday, unlocked, decrypted, flashed Pure Nexus, joy no problems. This morning I decided to try God kernel, flashed booted up but I found out the camera stopped working. So restore a backup, no boot, just stays on the Google boot animation. Full wipe, reflash Pure Nexus, still won't boot, stayed on the animation an hour. So I guess I try a factory image next.
Whenever i voice ask my Droid Turbo to do something verbally it will come back FIRST by saying "connecting to google" then it will begin performing whatever task i have asked it. Example: i would say "whats up google now navigate to 123 main street Oceanside": and it will come back with a VERBAL reply "connecting to google" "navigating to 123 main street Oceanside" How do i PREVENT and STOP it from verbally replying EVERYTIME i ask a question before beginning my task by my phone giving a verbal "connecting to google" Its very annoying and in my mind an unnecessary response for the phone to always be saying.
Lately, anytime I try to start Google Search (main home screen widget) in either voice mode or typng mode, the app starts, then freezes momentarily, then the phone does a shut down and restarts.
My Nexus 5, with default Google Keyboard, has stopped showing word suggestions. It used to work but doesn't anymore. The keyboard is not set to the same language as the system language.
For months I was happily using my Nexus 5 with a SoundID 300 earpiece. Pushing the call button went into a dialer dialog with voice prompts and responses. Suddenly a few weeks ago it started going to the Google Now (aka Google Search?) function (the one you get when you say "OK Google"). Although it will generally recognize the same voice commands as the dialer dialog, there are no voice prompts or responses, so if Google Now has crashed or decides to prompt on screen for "OK or Cancel", I have to get the phone out and look at it to see why it didn't dial.
Yesterday I did an update to several programs including Google and noticed major battery drain. I was not sure which program did it but checked Battery in Settings and saw it was the screen causing the drain. Apparently when the Google program updated, it changed the setting for automatic brightness adjustment to ON. I turned it off and the battery is fine. I keep brightness set to about one quarter to one third brightness. I think the battery life is great and I can easily get thru the day.
I'm sure many of you have heard that when you enter an incorrect pattern/PIN/password, eventually the phone asks for Google account credentials to unlock it. My Nexus 5 on 5.1.0 does not do this. Does yours? If my lock screen is set to PIN, I can enter as many incorrect attempts as I want, it never asks and never stops me. If I have a pattern set it will let me enter 10 incorrect attempts after which it simply stops me from trying for 30s, but it never asks for Google account credentials.
I'm running Cataclysm ROM (the Sept. 10 beta), Franco kernel, and I'm rooted and use Xposed. I receive this error when I try to add a card in Android Pay: "Android Pay cannot be used: Google is unable to verify that your device of the software running on it is Android compatible". I tried disabling root entirely and using RootCloak (Xposed) to hide root from Android Pay and Google Wallet, but I still can't use Pay. Wallet still works as it always has.
So this morning I woke up to my phone on a boot loop on the Google Logo. I have no custom roms or mods on it other than I am running ART. I suspect it could be battery related as it will only seem to do this on the charger but when I don't have it plugged in it won't even start up. When it's plugged in it won't even seem to want to stay "off", it boots up to the google logo on its own. If I hold down the volume rocker I can get into the bootloader but it resets before I can select anything and boots right back into the google logo.
Just wanted to upgrade my sisters phone which was running an old 5.1 version (custom rom, so the phone was unlocked and rooted already) to an android 6.0.1 custom rom. So I flashed newest twrp and flashed 6.0.1 bootloader and radio.img via fastboot using wugfresh tool and the files from the thread on here. now when trying to get into recovery, I am stuck at the google logo.
today I installed the new android 6.0 factory image, rooted it (used the modified boot.img from the previous build) and installed supersu 2.52 and blu spark kernel. Everything good until i deleted some apps (gmail, webview, youtube and other NON CRITICAL apps, like I ALWAY DO SINCE KITKAT), then rebooted and my phone is stuck at the Google logo, not even the bootanimation shows up.. Tried to reflash the boot.img, wipe cache, wipe data, factory reset but nothing.. The only thing that worked is to reflash the factory image! What am I doing wrong? Happened 2 times in a row so something must be wrong.. Another thing, I can't access TWRP every time, sometimes it skips and boots directly..
