BB Curve 8900 :: Backlight On By Itself?
Jan 1, 2010
I think I have had this issue since I upgraded to os 5 .411. What happens is while my screen's black or even in standby, the backlight goes on by itself for a few seconds. This interrupts even auto standby. My uncles 8900 didn't have this issue till yesterday when I upgr his bb to os 5 as well. I'm forced to turn my bb upside down at nighttime.

I had an 8310 and just bought an 8900 brand new off of eBay. I used the 8310's speakerphone A LOT for listening to music and loved it! I always took the back of the phone off too so that it wasn't coming through 2 little holes through the top. Is the sound quality and volume of the 8900 equal to or greater than the 8300 with its batter door off?

I recently purchased a blackberry 8900 and am trying to upgrade the software to the newest version (5.0 I assume). However whenever I check for updates via the blackberry site the desktop manger pops up and does not offer this upgrade. All it says it 4.6.1 (current) and the rest are downgrades, so I'm not quite sure what I need to do to get the new OS to even appear, much less download it and work.

Is there an app (Free, GPL, or otherwise) that will allow me to dim the backlight even lower than the BB OS allows by default? I'm currently running v5.0.0.1728.

I just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.

I dropped my Blackberry Curve 8530 back around Christmas 2010, and the trackpad stopped working. I could click on things, but I couldn't select other things. I took the battery out and let it sit for a few hours, and when I started back up, it was fine, and I haven't had any problems since. Today I was using my phone, and I noticed that the trackpad had started acting up again. I could open my very first app on my homescreen, but I couldn't scroll up or down or to the left or right. So I pulled out the battery, left it out for a bit, and now the screen seems to be broken. At first I thought my phone wouldn't even turn on, but I can see that it's turned on, there's just no backlight. The LED light doesn't work, so really, I can't do anything on my phone but dial out and receive calls. The screen looks black since the light doesn't seem to be working. I plan on replacing the LCD screen first to see if that helps, since it's cheaper than buying a new blackberry. If I replace the LCD, will that fix the lighting, or not?

Is there a way to set the backlight to illuminate once A notification is received? As it currently stands, when the backlight times out it won't turn back on until I phsyically Press a button. I'd like for it to light up when something is received. I looked in the backlight options but didn't see anything.

The only way to turn on the keypad is in the TEST of Hardware, if you go to the Next Step it turns off again. What I did was Turning on the Backlight Keypad in Test and then pressed CHANGE APLICATION (Something Like that I have it in Spanish) and then the Lights Keep up all the time. But if I go to the Music Player and I use "MUTE KEY" the Backlight Keypad turns off. (ONLY WHEN I PRESS MUTE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER)

Leaked or official, what's the best os? I tried .681 and .822, and they are giving me problems. I also hated the fact that they removed the lock option. I'm currently running official .822 but its mighty slow and battery is draining. I need to downgrade to something but i dont know which one to pick.

My phone is a curve 8900.......Okay, so yesterday around noon, my bbm starts freezin up in between chats, so I took the phone off and then turned it back on a few times. Seemed to be working fine, though I didnt use bbm again for the rest of the day, that on/off was frustrating enough.....I went to bed last night and had at least one bar of charge. When I woke up this morning the phone is off. Strange....because sometimes I go to bed with the battery on red and it lasts thru the nite. Okay, so I proceed to press the end call button to turn on the phone....nothing... Next move, remove and replace battery and sim card....still nothing...next step......put the phone to charge.... its been charging for two hours now and still nothing...... the red light to the top left of the phone is on & thats it... the phone still is nt coming on..!

This is probably a question that can be easily answered. Since now the 8520/30 has an official 5.0, is the 8900 going to get it? I ask because of the whole "not selling 8900's anymore".
