I just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.
The only way to turn on the keypad is in the TEST of Hardware, if you go to the Next Step it turns off again. What I did was Turning on the Backlight Keypad in Test and then pressed CHANGE APLICATION (Something Like that I have it in Spanish) and then the Lights Keep up all the time. But if I go to the Music Player and I use "MUTE KEY" the Backlight Keypad turns off. (ONLY WHEN I PRESS MUTE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER)
When in dim light the key the keypad light is not coming on when I press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution. Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this? On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on.
Due to its grey colour, the keys don't create a strong contrast and they are hard to read in some conditions when light is coming from a certain direction because the keypad backlight come out to soon. Especially indoor I can't read any of the keys. I'm really disappointed when after I installed the latest software upgrade this problem still exist. Is it possible to "turn off" the ambient light sensor

Is it possible to "turn off" the ambient light sensor that I'm supposing causes this problem? Have you same issue? Some workaround or fix available?
My "screen saver" is set to none so as soon as i lock the keypad it should black out (maximum battery)... But at the moment its staying illuminated with the battery draining before my eyes!
I read ebooks voraciously, it's very useful when in bed with the other half and he's trying to sleep, not to need a bedside light on.My problem occurs when using an ebook reader (currently Mobipocket - though please do enlighten me if you know of one better which will easily take books from the file offerings of the Gutenberg Project):
The keypad remains bright, much brighter than the screen (especially as I set the background to black and the text to mid-grey).I'd love to be able to toggle off the keypad backlight somehow.I've found a sort-of workaround, where I go to the Clock and set Bedside Mode, then switch application back to Mobipocket - the screen dims and the keyboard turns off...
BUT only until I use the optical pad to swipe to the next page, and the keypad lights come back on and blind me. They do fade out again but by this time I'm halfway down the new page and about to swipe again!Anyone? Keyboard backlight toggle? Is such a thing ever going to be possible or is this a well-flogged long-dead horse?
i have a bb curve 9300 and its randomly stopped working. The screen wont turn on and it just black, but when i turn it on the red lights comes on and the keypad light, so the phone is clearly on. I thought it was a problem with the actual screen so i got new one and got it put it instead of the old one. this did not fix the problem and the screen still will not turn on.
It's about 2 months that I have a Blackberry Bold 9900, and I am new to Blackberry overall.I am having trouble turning off the backlight. The light stays on all the time. When I lock my phone, the backlight will go off for 2 seconds and then it'll come back on. I tried playing with all the settings in the options Screen Display, and nothing seems to turn it off.
I've just bought a 701 and the backlight won't turn off unless I lock the phone, it just dims down a little after the "Light time-out" period.I've done the "Delete data and restore" reset 3 times already, and left the memory card out afterwards. Is this normal and nothing more than a bug?
Tried the options button and the key lock button on top of the phone....nothing will turn my backlight off and drains my battery. I am a new blackberry user.
Lately I've had trouble with my iPhone 4S backlight. The backlight does not always turn on when I wake the phone from sleep.
I've tried turning off the auto-brightness, but it does not help, the same behaviour continues. When the backlight is not on toggling the auto-brightness button or adjusting the brightness or covering the ambient light sensor have no effect, the backlight stays off. Usually it just randomly turns on after I put the device to sleep and wake it up. And no, my cover does not block the sensor either.
I can't get my Xoom to turn on the backlight. I can see that everything else works, by using reflective light I can see enough to do some simple actions, like changing brightness settings, and accept the shutdown dialog.I have tried anything that I can think off; turning on and off automatic brightness, cold reset, and shutting down and restart.
There doesn't seem to be a hardware error. I managed to get it to work again for a while yesterday, but I haven't been able to repeat that today.
Does anyone have any idea on how to turn the backlight on?
This had been bugging me for 3 days now. I don't have another phone to use. I've tried to repair the software using Update Service but it do no good. After pressing the On button at the top of the phone, the phone will vibrate after a sec and then there's a backlight but the "Sony Ericson" logo does not appear and after about 6 seconds the backlight will fade.
I have an issue in my nokia 5130.Some time the backlight wont turn off even key guard is locked; I tried to find some setting related to this, but unable to find any. This issue will temporally resolve if you switch off and switch on thecell.
Is it possible to control the button backlights? It would be really nice to be able to turn them off. Ever try to read a Kindle book or watch videos in the dark? The buttons are really bright compared to the screen and they hurt my eyes. I could find any control in the settings. Any chance of adding that feature
Is there any way to turn off this ugly keyboard backlight on my Vivaz pro? Or just fade it down, it doesn't have to shine so bright! + drains the battery, please put a on and off switch for the keyboard backlight in the next update, I have already turned off my 3g because my battery doesn't even last 1 day. And one more thing, I think it should be possible to chose if u want the display to auto rotate or just stay in landscape mode all the time. And also, is it possible to make the standard Symbian home screen in landscape mode?
I have had this fantastic phone for a couple of days now but I have one minor niggle, how on earth do I switch off the automatic keypad lock ?, I do not mean how do I unlock the keypad, I mean the lock that automatically comes on when the phone is left idle, I've scoured the manual and can't seem to find it.
How do I turn ON the keypad click on a 9900. The Keytone box in Keyboard 'options' is checked! The 'audible roll' in trackpad sensitivity is also checked, but that dont work either.
