When in dim light the key the keypad light is not coming on when I press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution. Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this? On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on.
Due to its grey colour, the keys don't create a strong contrast and they are hard to read in some conditions when light is coming from a certain direction because the keypad backlight come out to soon. Especially indoor I can't read any of the keys. I'm really disappointed when after I installed the latest software upgrade this problem still exist. Is it possible to "turn off" the ambient light sensor that I'm supposing causes this problem? Have you same issue? Some workaround or fix available?
My "screen saver" is set to none so as soon as i lock the keypad it should black out (maximum battery)... But at the moment its staying illuminated with the battery draining before my eyes!
I just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.

The only way to turn on the keypad is in the TEST of Hardware, if you go to the Next Step it turns off again. What I did was Turning on the Backlight Keypad in Test and then pressed CHANGE APLICATION (Something Like that I have it in Spanish) and then the Lights Keep up all the time. But if I go to the Music Player and I use "MUTE KEY" the Backlight Keypad turns off. (ONLY WHEN I PRESS MUTE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER)
I read ebooks voraciously, it's very useful when in bed with the other half and he's trying to sleep, not to need a bedside light on.My problem occurs when using an ebook reader (currently Mobipocket - though please do enlighten me if you know of one better which will easily take books from the file offerings of the Gutenberg Project):
The keypad remains bright, much brighter than the screen (especially as I set the background to black and the text to mid-grey).I'd love to be able to toggle off the keypad backlight somehow.I've found a sort-of workaround, where I go to the Clock and set Bedside Mode, then switch application back to Mobipocket - the screen dims and the keyboard turns off...
BUT only until I use the optical pad to swipe to the next page, and the keypad lights come back on and blind me. They do fade out again but by this time I'm halfway down the new page and about to swipe again!Anyone? Keyboard backlight toggle? Is such a thing ever going to be possible or is this a well-flogged long-dead horse?
I was just wondering why my Nokia N97 mini has a QWERTZ keypad and not a QWERTY keypad. It's a RM-555. I don't understand, the Y and Z keys have swapped places, doesn't make sense to me!
My 5800 has been working fine for about 8 months now, recently it has been cutting out randomly. Last night it locked then froze, I turned it on and off and now it works fine but the backlight never turns off so it is constantly bright. Very annoying because it is draining the battery, and I never know when I have got a message or anything because all the button lights are always on too.
Im havin a lil trouble wid the the backlight on my device...wen im on the desktop..the display doesnt go off..my settings for display backlight time out is set to 10 secs...dis doesnt happen when i reboot the fone...the backlight goes off after 10 secs..but after making a call or using some applications like contacts or conversations..the same thng happns again..and ive enabled the power saving mode..
I got my new 5800 xm and updated it to the latest firmware only because when I lock the phone keypad and when a new message arrives the LCD does not brightens up the phone gives only the notification sound and the led blinks and when the phone is not locked then the LCD brightens too and the sound is also heard and the phone vibrates too I had gone through the entire phone kindly tell if is there any way that we can turn on the backlight display too on when the new message or email arrives or is this the normal behavior of 5800 xm?
I have a N95 (N95-1), and this morning I turned it on after it went flat, and the screen backlight isn't working. The keypad still lights up, and the LED screen seems to be fine.I've tried everything up to a factory restart. Does anyone else have this problem, or know how to fix it? It's really quite annoying!
I've just bought a 701 and the backlight won't turn off unless I lock the phone, it just dims down a little after the "Light time-out" period.I've done the "Delete data and restore" reset 3 times already, and left the memory card out afterwards. Is this normal and nothing more than a bug?
My N95 has been on the frits! It sometimes shows garbles colors, or a weird scanline diagonal draw of the screen. Sometimes if I slide it enough times the screen is drawn correctly but only the top left corner. Other times it just sits there on a black (no backlight) screen. Any reason why it's doing this?
Tried searching Nokia's website, but website just hangs. Tried calling the support number, but number just disconnects. Tried sending online email, but doesn't go anywhere. Tried reading my phone's literature, but no joy there either, as it doesn't address the 2 questions I have. Don't really no what's going on with Nokia, so this support discussion is my last resort. Just bought E63. And I have a couple of questions. How to check firmware version? And if firmware version is out of date, how to update? How to get keyboard backlight to turn on?
When typing using the backlight on either Live Messenger, or writing a document on Word or a long message, the device completely freezes and blacks out, with both screens, keypads being unresponsive. I have to take the battery out and put it back in to make it work again. This has only ever happened when I'm typing with the backlight on, and for a prolonged period. Backlight function is pretty much useless right now. Background apps are not the issue, and neither is any other function. The backlight is basically useless right now.
my N97 mini 11.0.045 works fine except that the backlight does not activate when a new SMS is received. It should work the same way as for an incoming voice call.In the meantime I'm using Best Reminder to activate the backlight after 30 seconds (reminds you every 30seconds after this point until you acknowledge the message). Is it just my phone that exhibits this behaviour or is it a common issue?
I'm having some trouble with the backlight of my N82. I've had the handset for just about 2yrs now and less than a month ago upgraded the software to V 35.0.002. After leaving the phone to charge overnight I woke up to my the sound of the alarm going off (as per usual). However, after disarming the alarm, the backlight started flashing. Not flashing at a set frequency, but an erratic flash. I restarted the phone and even removed the battery for a few minutes, but the problem persists. I thought it may be a hardware problem, but the flashing stops while there is an active window open (e.g. while having the "deleting messages" pop-up or "refreshing the music library"). Also once the power-saver feature kicks in the backlight obviously goes off so the flashing stops.
I have an issue in my nokia 5130.Some time the backlight wont turn off even key guard is locked; I tried to find some setting related to this, but unable to find any. This issue will temporally resolve if you switch off and switch on thecell.
My Nokia 6210 has its backlight permanently stuck on. This causes the battery to drain very quickly. Is there a fix for this or do i need to take it to the repair shop?
Is it possible to control the button backlights? It would be really nice to be able to turn them off. Ever try to read a Kindle book or watch videos in the dark? The buttons are really bright compared to the screen and they hurt my eyes. I could find any control in the settings. Any chance of adding that feature
Having purchased a new Nokia E75 yesterday I set the phone up today. After switching off the phone and placing it on-charge I now find the phone will not start at all?
Nokia has been my first choice in phones for over 10 years but the amount of problems I have had with my N97 in the last 7 months means this will be my last.
I cannot update software or download anything because it keeps telling me I am out of memory. In fact the memory is so bad, what is the point of having all these wonderful apps if you cannot use them! waste of money!
It keeps switching itself off.
It keeps hanging so that the only way I can clear it is buy ringing it with another phone (which works for a couple of seconds), or by switching on and off a few times and hoping it works, or removing and replacing the batter (same results).
Now the camera doesnt automatically come on when i open the lens.
The backlight needs to stay open a lot longer than 60 seconds - that's **bleep** for surfing.
When updating the music library if i've made changes to the name of a track it will revert back to the original.
This is the tip of the iceberg, but the fact that it just keeps switching off when i'm nowhere near it and that i can't switch it on again is too unreliable.
At best this is an ipod on which you can surf and make/receive phone calls. you cannot use all the apps - i've never been able to have a game on their as well, or have documents on there etc etc without getting a beep to tell me i've not got enough memory.
I was charging my phone, it has a BL-5J battery and suddenly after a few mins it switched off. The battery is overheating, the phone is also heated a lot and can barely hold it.I took out the battery and let it cool for sometime but when I put it back the phone doesnt switch on.Even after charging again for a few mins it doesn't switch on. whats the problem exactly? the battery or the phone? its a few months old only.
I recently purchased a 6700 and it now seems to be switching itself off .wheni spoke to the salesman he told me to update the phone on pc suite which i did and it told me the phone is up to date .The problem is still there.can anyone help?
I've purchased my new new nokia X2 01 mobile in month june 2011. Since last week it keeps on swiching off frequently. There is no problem of battery charge.I've also visited Nokia care regarding this. They have updated the software but problem is still existing.
I have a problem with my Nokia N73.Recently I turned off the phone and when I turned it on again my keyboard wasn't working any more. It only showed the time/date settings (which I couldn't set because of keyboard malfunction). After some time, or some calls received - one part of the keyboard started working - all of it except little joystick) and I still couldn't navigate through menu. Whenever I switch off the phone it goes back to full non-working phase for some time.I can't hard reset it because "green", * and 3 are not working when I switch off the phone, and reseting the phone throug USB is also not working because I can't set my phone to offline mode because I can't use the joystick.
Recently my nokia 5220 xpressmusic phone started behaving very erratically. It keeps on switching off automatically once in every 2 minutes.I have tried "restore factory settings" but still the problem persists. 15 MB is free in my phone memory..so not a matter of internal memory.
