Nokia Nseries :: N8:- Keypad Lock Not Turning Off Backlight?
Oct 30, 2010
My "screen saver" is set to none so as soon as i lock the keypad it should black out (maximum battery)... But at the moment its staying illuminated with the battery draining before my eyes!
I have had this fantastic phone for a couple of days now but I have one minor niggle, how on earth do I switch off the automatic keypad lock ?, I do not mean how do I unlock the keypad, I mean the lock that automatically comes on when the phone is left idle, I've scoured the manual and can't seem to find it
Yesterday when i was doing text chat suddenly my side keypad lock stopped responding, am not able to lock or unlock using that key. If i push it down its staying down only and if i push it up its staying up not able to even turn on the flash light on with long downward push.
I got the Nokia E5-00 today, and out of everything I can't manage to figure out how to stop the key pad from locking automatically. It's getting on my nerves, if I could at the least put a longer time limit on the period between where I leave the phone and it locking.
When in dim light the key the keypad light is not coming on when I press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution. Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this? On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on.
Due to its grey colour, the keys don't create a strong contrast and they are hard to read in some conditions when light is coming from a certain direction because the keypad backlight come out to soon. Especially indoor I can't read any of the keys. I'm really disappointed when after I installed the latest software upgrade this problem still exist. Is it possible to "turn off" the ambient light sensor that I'm supposing causes this problem? Have you same issue? Some workaround or fix available?
I've just bought a 701 and the backlight won't turn off unless I lock the phone, it just dims down a little after the "Light time-out" period.I've done the "Delete data and restore" reset 3 times already, and left the memory card out afterwards. Is this normal and nothing more than a bug?
I just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.

The only way to turn on the keypad is in the TEST of Hardware, if you go to the Next Step it turns off again. What I did was Turning on the Backlight Keypad in Test and then pressed CHANGE APLICATION (Something Like that I have it in Spanish) and then the Lights Keep up all the time. But if I go to the Music Player and I use "MUTE KEY" the Backlight Keypad turns off. (ONLY WHEN I PRESS MUTE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER)
I read ebooks voraciously, it's very useful when in bed with the other half and he's trying to sleep, not to need a bedside light on.My problem occurs when using an ebook reader (currently Mobipocket - though please do enlighten me if you know of one better which will easily take books from the file offerings of the Gutenberg Project):
The keypad remains bright, much brighter than the screen (especially as I set the background to black and the text to mid-grey).I'd love to be able to toggle off the keypad backlight somehow.I've found a sort-of workaround, where I go to the Clock and set Bedside Mode, then switch application back to Mobipocket - the screen dims and the keyboard turns off...
BUT only until I use the optical pad to swipe to the next page, and the keypad lights come back on and blind me. They do fade out again but by this time I'm halfway down the new page and about to swipe again!Anyone? Keyboard backlight toggle? Is such a thing ever going to be possible or is this a well-flogged long-dead horse?

My phone model is Nokia 2680s.I want to learn if there is a way to lock and unlock the keypad merely with the slide operation. for unlocking the keypad it is not a problem. The feature already exists. However for locking the phone I could not find a way. Evenif I slide off the phone, the phone keypad is still active.
Before I was using samsung and this feature is default in samsung models and is very efficient. You just receive a call, slide open your phone or you browse the menus and when you slide off the phone, the phones keypad is locked! that's it.is there a way to apply such a feature for Nokia 2680s as well?
I have a Nokia E72 and I am otherwise pleased with it, but when the phone is in the jeans pocket keypad often opens by itself. It is not nice at all
I would like to know is there any possibility to change the keys that lock opens. Is there even theoretical possibility to change those keys? Clearly left softkey - right softkey combination is not a good option for me
My n70 Mobile has been turn on auto keypad lock. Thats is disgusting to me . I want to solve this problem. I want to turn off auto key lock for my N70.
I have had my X6 for just under 6 months and the keypad lock button has snapped off. I have a protective cover on the phone and screen cover and have to admit that when I got the phone, I though it was a bad design and would eventually happen. How do I get it repaired?
When the phone's on, and i try using the keypad to either to type out a text or to move around the menu, the phone hangs / keypad doesnt work. I dont know whether its the phone hanging or the keypad problem because the screen goes dark, and i cant revive it, but its still on, and i have to restart the phone, but the same thing keeps happening. I tried hard reseting my phone, that didnt work either.
i connected my phone to a "unprotected" pc to download a mp3 song. after i did that the phone started to lock and unlock his keypad without beeing touched and when i pres the buttons sometimes the phone does what that button should do and somethimes it doesent. my question is "The problem is a virus (if yes how do i deal with it) or it's an hardware problem (with the slide or something else)?"
I found that I can't use the numeric keypad while calling with my N8. Is it possible to show the numerica keypad as possible as other Symbian devices are?
Because of that issue, I can't listen to my voicemails because you need to send dialing signals to use your voicemail box.
I like the new qwerty keypad always prefer a qwerty over a simple one,but I'm facing a problem that the keypad in my N8 is not completely accurate, often I press some key and another undesired key is pressed and often I have to apply some pressure on the screen as it doesn't responses to my touch.
I upgraded my Nokia 5800 to the latest firmware (US: 40.2.005). I'm not sure I like this new firmware. When a calendar event alarm surfaces on the touchscreen (new buttons in this firmware), if the keypad is locked, the touchscreen is unresponive when attempting to hit the STOP or SNOOZE button. Strangely, the calendar alarm recurs with the normal touchscreen message (old firmware) subsequently and is responsive to the buttons (despite a keypad lock). Please advise how I can eliminate one of the two repeat calendar alarms or make the new calendar alarm responsive to touch when my keypad is locked. I try to unlock the keypad and it does not work during this time.
My new N8 keeps turning itself off, it hangs shortly after almost any app is started. ovimaps, music, radio transmitter... I don't know what to do about it, it takes some time before it becomes responsive again and I can turn it back on, Is there away to hard reset it? should i do this? i've tried restoring factory settings.. no effect.
I've had my Nokia N95 8GB since 2008 (It's OLD I get it haha) and I've had no problems with it until recently, where it would randomly turn off and then back on, such as when I'm in the middle of writing a text. The most ridiculous incident was when it turned off and on while just lying on the table! There are no software updates available for this old phone
If you encounter the thing that the Nokia N8 won't charge and worst, if the battery was drained and the N8 shutted down and won't charge or power on, try the following steps.
1. Connect the charger supplied with the N8 to other compatible Nokia phones, like E72 like I did.
2. Wait for the other device (E72) to start charging.
3. After it starts charging, remove the charger from it (E72).
4. Now, try to charge the N8 using the supplied charger that you used with the other device previously (E72).
I have a Torch 9850. I don't want to hear the keypad when I dial. How can I turn it off when I dial? I don't want to have to turn off the ringtone to do this.
I have been trying to find the reason why it keeps happening and I still can't find out why but i think the battery is not the main problem to it, I think it's the phone.
