The only way to turn on the keypad is in the TEST of Hardware, if you go to the Next Step it turns off again. What I did was Turning on the Backlight Keypad in Test and then pressed CHANGE APLICATION (Something Like that I have it in Spanish) and then the Lights Keep up all the time. But if I go to the Music Player and I use "MUTE KEY" the Backlight Keypad turns off. (ONLY WHEN I PRESS MUTE ON THE MUSIC PLAYER)
View 1 RepliesI just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.

The lock keyboard option was 'a', and I clicked it and it locked the keyboard. I hadn't realized there was a lock for my keyboard (and had been searching for one). However, I can't get it unlocked. When I press the menu key, it pops up that 'keyboard is locked. Press the Mute button to unlock."
However, I don't know where the Mute button is, nor can I get it to unlock. My theme is precision zen (I believe) if that makes a difference.
how I can unlock my keyboard? how to successfully lock it in future? I guess I don't understand the speed dial aspect of the phone.
When I first had my phone the mute button worked perfectly fine. After about 2-3 months it is not working anymore...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just updated to 442 and everything else seems fine except for the fact that when on a call, as soon as the backlight times out, it mutes the mic and the party on the other end cannot hear me. Clicking the trackball "unmutes" the phone until the backlight times out again. This happens whether I'm on speakerphone or not.
I posted this in the actual OS thread as well but figured someone in here may read this and know of a solution.
I've done quite a few battery pulls hoping this would resolve the issue but it hasn't.
The nice thing about upgrading from 296 to this is when you are on a call and the backlight times out, the screen and everything but the 4 buttons on the trackpad row go dim. So if its dark you can still find these 4 buttons rather easily. I just wish I could figure out this mute issue.
If for some reason the play/pause mute button is broken, is there any other way to unlock the device?

View 12 Replies View RelatedWhen in dim light the key the keypad light is not coming on when I press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution. Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this? On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on.

The keypad remains bright, much brighter than the screen (especially as I set the background to black and the text to mid-grey).I'd love to be able to toggle off the keypad backlight somehow.I've found a sort-of workaround, where I go to the Clock and set Bedside Mode, then switch application back to Mobipocket - the screen dims and the keyboard turns off...

When having text notification sounds, on other phones I know there's a quick button to silence it let's say if it goes off and you're talking to someone. I know from reading so far the only "quick" way to do that is hold down the volume button. Is there literally no other button on the phone that you can just click to silence your notification, while having notifications have a volume. I have a hard time hearing so I tend to leave the notifications/ringtone volume on. With a lockscreen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI purchased a blackberry curve 8530 on thursday, and have used it for one full day now. The mute button is EXTREMELY sensitive, but only from non-direct touch angles - so basically it goes into mute mode when I do not expect it. This is becoming a massive annoyance.
Is this a normal problem with these phones, or should I try to get a replacement? Will they make me go to RIM to have them send me a refurbished phone for my 1 day old brand new phone?

Before doing the following I highly recommend you do an iCloud back up first. It takes 5 minutes max and then do this:
>settings>general>reset>reset all settings
This process takes about 10-15 minutes at the most.
I'm really quite irritated now because I've had to do this twice thus far and I'm expecting to have to do it again until this "bug" is worked out. Also my charging seems to have a glitch now as well. It may be an charger issue in and of itself but I really don't think so. Again I think it's the most recent update.

I consequently have to take out my battery and restart the phone to get the keypad unlocked. Not sure if the actual button is faulty or not but is there any way to switch the unlocking feature to a different button?
