Mar 7, 2010This has just started happening since yesterday the backlight will not turn off so the battery only lasts around 8 hours before running down .

Nokia :: 5800 Backlight Is Always On
Jan 31, 2010My 5800 has been working fine for about 8 months now, recently it has been cutting out randomly. Last night it locked then froze, I turned it on and off and now it works fine but the backlight never turns off so it is constantly bright. Very annoying because it is draining the battery, and I never know when I have got a message or anything because all the button lights are always on too.

Aug 23, 2010I got my new 5800 xm and updated it to the latest firmware only because when I lock the phone keypad and when a new message arrives the LCD does not brightens up the phone gives only the notification sound and the led blinks and when the phone is not locked then the LCD brightens too and the sound is also heard and the phone vibrates too I had gone through the entire phone kindly tell if is there any way that we can turn on the backlight display too on when the new message or email arrives or is this the normal behavior of 5800 xm?

Nov 17, 2011I've just bought a 701 and the backlight won't turn off unless I lock the phone, it just dims down a little after the "Light time-out" period.I've done the "Delete data and restore" reset 3 times already, and left the memory card out afterwards. When I lock my phone, the backlight will go off for 2 seconds and then it'll come back on. I tried playing with all the settings in the options Screen Display, and nothing seems to turn it off.

Feb 3, 2010Okay, I know what you're thinking...USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION! But I have and I have tried all the solutions I could find on google and here. I've tried turning it on with just the bat, bat/mem, bat/sim, etc charged my phone and what not and still nothing. It just won't turn on.I even tried hard resetting it but nothing works. When I press and hold the power button it just vibrates once and doesn't do anything. When I hook it up to the pc, it recognizes that there's a nokia phone there...I think...but it only does when you click and hold power and i vibrates.

Jul 29, 2010I just bought a brand new blackberry curve 8900 and i've noticed that the keyboard backlight won't come on. I've read its supposed to detect dim light and turn on, on its own but I can be in a pitch black room and it wont turn on. Also i read that if you cover the led indicator light it should come on, tried that and it didn't work. I also went to the keypad and display settings and turned diming off and pretty much no matter what I do I can't get the backlight to turn on.

Apr 17, 2012Lately I've had trouble with my iPhone 4S backlight. The backlight does not always turn on when I wake the phone from sleep.
I've tried turning off the auto-brightness, but it does not help, the same behaviour continues. When the backlight is not on toggling the auto-brightness button or adjusting the brightness or covering the ambient light sensor have no effect, the backlight stays off. Usually it just randomly turns on after I put the device to sleep and wake it up. And no, my cover does not block the sensor either.

Apr 24, 2011I can't get my Xoom to turn on the backlight. I can see that everything else works, by using reflective light I can see enough to do some simple actions, like changing brightness settings, and accept the shutdown dialog.I have tried anything that I can think off; turning on and off automatic brightness, cold reset, and shutting down and restart.
There doesn't seem to be a hardware error. I managed to get it to work again for a while yesterday, but I haven't been able to repeat that today.
Does anyone have any idea on how to turn the backlight on?

Jan 23, 2010I was very disappointed with the new version of ovi maps (with free voice guided navigation) due to the fact than the new version did not turn the map in the direction of travel. It turns while a route search is made, but not otherwise. Its was a cool feature which was available in ovi maps 3.0. In 3D mode this was really cool. I wonder why nokia scrapped this useful feature. Anyone had similar issues ?I own Nokia 5800XM, v40.0.005.

Mar 6, 2010I want to set up my 5800 to work in the car as a music/navigation/handsfree device. I created a Car profile with ring volumes and other stuff set up just the way I want it. However, I cannot make the screen not to timeout and turn off. Basically, the automatic screen lock is deactivated and shouldn't get into way. When I plug the aux cable into the phone I select the Music Stand accessory which is the only one that has a Screen control setting. It is set to On, from the default Automatic. However, the screen goes black anyway, but the buttons stay lit.

Jul 5, 2010When in dim light the key the keypad light is not coming on when I press any key. I have looked in the manual, tried different settings for the sensor and looked at online forums. No solution exists. The only way to make it work is by blocking the sensor with your finger. Obviously this is not a good solution. Is this a malfunction or is Nokia stupid to design the phone like this? On any model of Nokia on the press of a key the keypad backlight should come on.

Sometimes if I slide it enough times the screen is drawn correctly but only the top left corner. Other times it just sits there on a black (no backlight) screen. Any reason why it's doing this?
