BB Curve 8900 :: Javelin Vs. Bold 9700 / Battery Life And Processor Speed?
Jul 27, 2010Ok, so I had a bold 9000 for a year, but I was sick of the battery life and battery pulls.
Couple weeks ago, I sold it and got me an android. But the problem is 90% of my friends and family own a blackberry, so basically I still need BBM.Now, I'm thinking of buying a new javelin, cause I always loved the form factor so much. I had no idea how'd I ended up with the bold.I know that it won't get the OS 6, but that won't be a problem since I already got an android. So do you guys recommend it?My only concern is the battery life. My brother got an onyx and it has great battery life.How's the battery life compared to the bold 9700?Oh and I also heard the CPU is pretty slow that you can't chat/browse the internet while listening to music? Is that true?

May 22, 2010I had an 8310 and just bought an 8900 brand new off of eBay. I used the 8310's speakerphone A LOT for listening to music and loved it! I always took the back of the phone off too so that it wasn't coming through 2 little holes through the top. Is the sound quality and volume of the 8900 equal to or greater than the 8300 with its batter door off?

Jan 20, 2010hi. had 8900 for few months on orange uk with data plan. have been using email, internet and windows live and blackberry messenger all fine using either wi fi or mobile now all of a sudden its stop working and i cant use none. when i try to connect to internet i get a msg say this is a wi fi service please ensure your device has a wi fi connection , bb messenger wont send mgs or receive windows live jus says this service is not enabled for this handheld. ive contacted orange but they havnt helped they did say it could be a update of facebook causing problem?. have tried removing battery and restoring removed service books etc nothings fixed. can anyone help plz?

Jun 29, 2010I recently purchased a blackberry 8900 and am trying to upgrade the software to the newest version (5.0 I assume). However whenever I check for updates via the blackberry site the desktop manger pops up and does not offer this upgrade. All it says it 4.6.1 (current) and the rest are downgrades, so I'm not quite sure what I need to do to get the new OS to even appear, much less download it and work.

Apr 8, 2010my 8900 crashed on me today and they are replacing it.I decided to try the 9700 while I wait for the 8900.I was initially going to just sell the 8900 replacement on eBay and enjoy my new 9700.However, I am slightly disappointed with the 9700.I love the keyboard over the 8900.I also love the track pad and I thought I would hate it.What I don't like about the 9700 is the 3G seems to be about as slow as the EDGE. I don't use the browser much anyways so it is not much of a feature for me.Not sure if the better feeling keyboard and track pad is worth the price of a new $400 phone.Am I missing something about the 9700?

Jul 14, 2011My phone is a curve 8900.......Okay, so yesterday around noon, my bbm starts freezin up in between chats, so I took the phone off and then turned it back on a few times. Seemed to be working fine, though I didnt use bbm again for the rest of the day, that on/off was frustrating enough.....I went to bed last night and had at least one bar of charge. When I woke up this morning the phone is off. Strange....because sometimes I go to bed with the battery on red and it lasts thru the nite. Okay, so I proceed to press the end call button to turn on the phone....nothing... Next move, remove and replace battery and sim card....still nothing...next step......put the phone to charge.... its been charging for two hours now and still nothing...... the red light to the top left of the phone is on & thats it... the phone still is nt coming on..!

Jan 1, 2010I think I have had this issue since I upgraded to os 5 .411. What happens is while my screen's black or even in standby, the backlight goes on by itself for a few seconds. This interrupts even auto standby. My uncles 8900 didn't have this issue till yesterday when I upgr his bb to os 5 as well. I'm forced to turn my bb upside down at nighttime.

Jan 23, 2010it seems with my new 8900 i picked up i cannot update to any os other than stock 4.6 ver(.231) or downgrade to(.114) to any other version. I have reinstalled dm to the current version and still nothing. I have download multiple new 5.0 os(.348-.411) and deleted the vendor file and when i plug the berry in after installation it goes to check for a update and it does not find any. If you then try to go thru dm and update software it only has those two older versions listed even though i installed the newer ones.

I read that it doesn't wipe memory or anything (unlike my old, non-BB phone)plus the reload time when I turn it back on seems way too quick for the option to even be an "ON/OFF" function. So what does it do, exactly? Is there still battery drainage? And...is there a way to clean up the memory without doing a battery pull?

Mar 19, 2010I've just recently starting having this issue with my SMS where a particular thread of SMS's gets "locked" up. That is, I'll get a message, but I can't open it. Doesn't matter if I try opening it using the enter key, the trackball, or by using menu then open. The only way I open them is by having to do a battery pull. Has anyone else had this issue?

I tried removing the battery, no luck. I tried the desktop manager, but it says the database for SMS is unavailable and confirgured for wireless config (etc) only. Mar 22, 2011My BB curve 8900 cannot boot up. There is a white screen and clock runs forever. I downloaded an application from Worldmate yesterday, and the handset worked fine. All of sudden, it showed "Cleaning Memory" and ever since it has been showing a white screen with the clock. I even tried removing the battery, the memory card, etc to re-boot, but its not working. I use the Blackberry Desktop Manager ver 5.0.1.
