My name is ivan and i have a galaxy s2 from canada. im gonna be completley honest here. After rooting my phone, the settings icon was gone. i didnt care for awhile but after i few days, i recently came across lag and was forced to unroot and reset my phone. thinking that would do the job and bring my settings back, sadly it didnt. I factory reseted my phone but the settings icon was still not there.

Now I'm having trouble syncing the GSII with Outlook on my PC as I want.fter the last sync, I find that the contacts on the PC have all duplicated (2 of everything), and the contacts on the phone have all been removed.When I first set up Kies there were options to determine how priorities on new/changed contact records on phone and PC should be resolved. Now I can't find any settings for that. It's just the one 'sync' setting.

I've noticed a drop in battery life lately and Google Play services has been topping my battery charts, I'm wondering if this has something to do with it. The icon does stop spinning but it never disappears like it does for all the other items. I found someone else who had the same problem and he said he deleted then recreated his google account and that fixed it. I tried that and now not only is the sync icon still stuck there for Calendar but now it's stuck there for Google Play Newstand as well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy S2 has behaving a bit strangely now for a while, but after updating it to ICS it seems to have gotten worse!
The settings I use daily are (amongst other ones):-
- WIFI off
- bluetooth on
- ringer vibrate
- brightness 25%
Before ICS, when I switched the phone off and then on again, it would change the settings to the following:-
- WIFI on
- bluetooth off
- brightness 50%
After ICS update it now also resets the ringer to loud, not vibrate.
It seems to make the changes shortly after it boots. For example, I switch it on, put my pin in and the bluetooth is on, wifi off, ringer vibrate (as it was when it went off). However, shortly after my home screens have loaded with their icons, the BT, WIFI, brightness and ringer all change, almost as if it's loading some default settings.
I have the international version of Galaxy S2. I go into phone to display the log and I pick any of the settings, ie all calls, missed calls, etc. It displays the right information but when I exit and get back to it, it doesn't remember the settings, it goes back to ALL.

If I try to reset the outgoing email settings, everything is fine and the test appears successful. But when I try to send email I find that I receive message 'Connection error'. I am currently set to send emails without signing on, the port number is 25 and the SMTP server is [URL] I have tried signing in and changing the smtp address to others suggested on other sites, i.e [URL], but setup is never completed.

On my old phone I had a pin code lock for when the phone was turned on. The nearest I've seen to that is the encrypt device option.Has anyone any recommendations as to good practices for security on android phones, especially with the auto sync of some accounts needed for running which makes me want to lock the phone down tight should it get into undesirable hands.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm finding my GPS settings have a significant impact on my battery life, with High Accuracy draining it too aggressively and Battery Saver Mode not working for navigation or my running app (RunKeeper). Can Tasker be set up to change my GPS settings to High Accuracy when I launch either one of those two apps, then back to Battery Saver when I close them without having rooted my phone?

View 7 Replies View Relatedi like the screen display nice and bright so when i go into - settings - display - brightness - menu i untick the automatic brightness box and move the slider almost all the way to the right and press ok to exit - leaving the automatic brightness box unticked .but the next time i go to use my phone either to text or make or receive a call somehow the automatic brightness box has a tick in it and the screen goes into the automatic brightness settings by going dim again .whatever i do and however many times i untick the automatic brightness box it still manages to tick itself the next time i use the phone?

Here is my proplem. when i select the video icon (the one that looks like a film strip) and start playing the video plays but then after it is done it plays the next one right after the one i played.
Is there a way to change the settings so it plays only the video i select?
I can set up my account and send/receive emails with no problem using either pop or imap, the problem I have is trying to then modify the 'Server Settings' to set the 'delete from server' option under 'incoming settings'. When I select 'incomming settings', username/password, 'done', nothing happens, I'm just returned back to the original settings screen that I originally selected 'incomming settings' from. What is also suspicious is the option for 'outgoing settings' is not listed at all, when I look at documentation the option for 'outgoing settings' is there under 'server settings' but not on my phone it's not.

But as the SGSII is my first Android smartphone, please bear it with me and try to explain everything in layman's terms 1. In Contacts, what exactly does the "Merge with Google" option do (apart from displaying that little "g" icon next to a contact)? Also, after using it, I don't see to be able to revert the action - is it still possible?. Is it only possible to synchronize my Contacts with my Google account after the above mentioned "Merge with Google" action has been applied, or are they completely separate? E.g. if I add a new contact to my Phone, will it get synchronized with Google even if I don't Merge it with Google first?
3. Is it possible to also synchronize other contacts (like those from Facebook, LinkedIn, etc) in order to store them on my Google account for safety reasons4. Does the Google contacts synchronization work also the other direction, i.e. after I edit My Contacts on my Google accont, can I just use "Synchronize" in the SGSII to update the Phone contacts? Or do I need to delete all Contacts from my Phone first, and only then synchronize to the current Google version?5. I write messages/emails in English as often as I do in Polish. When I set Polish as the input language in Voice Recognition settings, and happen to compose a message in English using voice recognition, it often happens some Polish words are generated (and vice versa). I thought it would be logical if - apart from the global input language setting - the keyboard input language settings (changeable via the Space bar) - would eliminate the problem (ie. the VR engine should expect and use only English words when the keyboard is set to Eng, and so on) - but it doesn't seem to work.
I'm having an issue trying to connect using WIFI in my browser. I cannot find anyplace to put in the username and password for my proxy server at work.I went into the advanced settings for WIFI and put the details for the proxy server in there, but when i browse i get a 'Proxy Authentication required' error in the browser but no prompt to fill in details.

Recently my phone did a software upgrade, and for some reason this removed all my email settings. I've been trying to setup my email account on it again but don't seem to be having any joy. My address is through Utility Warehouse (xxxxx@uwclub.net)- so I typed that and the password in at the first setup screen. The next screen asked to select between pop3 and IMAP, which I chose pop3. I then set the incoming server to pop3.uwclub.net and the outgoing to smtp.uwclub.net- I am positive these are the settings I've used before. However after saying Processing for a long time I get a timeout message. I've tried with and without SSL and I still can't get my emails to work!
