Before i updated the phone software, i avoid it by using the contacts bar home screen theme; the contact button and dialer seem to work only in that layout, which i didn't mind. But now, after the update, and since there no other way to access the dialer im kinda screwed...$300 phone with no that can't dial how embarrassing
View 12 RepliesAbout a month ago, my new nokia 5800 which i recieved on a plan using virgin fell into water. I bought a new one from a website called topbuy.com.au, which came from Hong Kong, although claimed to be made at the same factory as all the other phones. When i received my new phone, i was suprised to see that everything seemed to be in order, and that it all looked fine.When i started the phone i noticed many problems with my layout. It all seemed very awkward, and the Add button for the quick contact function was large. I also had 2 buttons saying telehpone and contacts at the bottom of the screen instead of the 2 icons that were there on my older phone. I also do not have the full screen qwerty keyboard available, or atleast cannot find it, when i want to text. Another small thing i noticed was that when i scrolled through with the stylus, for example through the messageing menu, instead of stopping at the top or bottom it would keep scrolling untill i stopped.

So if my country code is for example +961 and X number is saved as +961-x-xxxyyy, when X calls me from x-xxx-yyy, his name is not shown !!
I keep my contacts in international format since I travel a lot but when I'm home, none of the local country number saved on my phone are recognized.
have 5530 model. contacts and dialer icon on homescreen does not work nor green call button. Only way of calling is going thru contacts within the menu and if it is not there then you have to set it up which is extremely long and laborious! I have updated software and reset factory settings to no avail phone is only 2 months old!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a 5800 that I have been troubleshooting for the past Month. We have been to the provider who has now replaced the phone twice in the past two months. Calling out appears to be fine. However when customizing the phone I am unable to set picture and a ringtone to a contact in the contact list. The Contact is saved on the phone. When the person dials in the picture will display correctly but the ringtone will play a default ring not a custom file as selected. This has heppened on all 3 of the phones. I am down to the OS of the phone which the provider says is up to date.

The camera doesn't work. I open the camera application with both methods (button on side and icon in apps) but it does the red dot thing in the corner for about 4-6 seconds then disappears and applications tells me the app is running. I try to go to the app but it wont go on it.
Problem 2:
The green key, dialler and contacts icon on the home screen do not work at all. I have no way of opening my dialler as there is no option for it.
I updated my firmware to v40.0.005 last week. Please be aware the problems were both there BEFORE i made the update and are still here after the update.Is there any way of doing this without soft/hard resetting. Also, does soft/hard reset mean you lose the data in an app (eg your high scores in a game like bagatelle)?
I'm comparing to my 5530, On the contacts bar it nicely blends into the back ground, on the 5800 is a dirty oversized white block with the contact in the middle, no blending in or anything, same on the email, a horrible big white square, nothing blended in, I've tried different themes, and reflashed but no good.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAttached image shows that when I make a call or receive it, my screen does not show dialer buttons, mute button, or the additional caller/conference button. I have looked at all different settings that I could think of but can't seem to fix this. I have tried this using headset as well as speaker phone.
I was able to bring up dialer button (only) if I go to home screen during the call and open up phone again. This time I can use the dialer buttons but still no mute or conf buttons.
All I did was modify my contacts settings to display contacts according to "custom settings" (instead of displaying contacts from ALL ACCOUNTS) and random contacts seemed to be ignored by the keypad lookup. When I would switch to the "Contacts" tab of the dialer and type out the name/ keyword, the same contact I was searching for WOULD be found. I even changed back to "All contacts" in the select contacts to display settings, but that didn't work.
An example of what I'm experiencing: when searching for a restaurant called "Second Grill", I would type in Grill using the keypad, and 6 other restaurants with Grill in their name popped up, but not Second Grill. When I typed in "Grill" in the contacts tab, "Second Grill" did show up as expected. Before changing the contacts settings at all, I know the lookup for Second Grill worked because I used it regularly.
I next went to Settings --> Applications --> Application manager and found 3 different "Phone" apps and cleared the cache of each one. Still didn't work. I did not try "Clear Data" for each one, as I was warned this would delete the application files (that didn't sound like what I wanted to do).
Got a problem with my 5800 - just today, the touch screen has started being odd. It sometimes works perfectly but then i try and press a button on the left hand side of the screen and it chooses the one at the right-hand side. This obviously makes everything very difficult! Any ideas as to why this might be/how I could repair it? I've tried the touch screen calibration about 10 times, it sorts it out for about a minute.I can send it to Nokia to replace but I could really do without sending my phone away

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some unknown reason the right button was changed from 'Back' to 'Done. I find myself making up alarms I didn't intend to do. Also, the right-side buttons are usually 'Back' or 'Cancel' and this is very confusing.
These are tiny things that should've been caught by the Nokia employees but either they're not doing their job or think nobody would care. The tiniest things can either make or BREAK.
I find it very difficult to see the letters on the contact shortcut keypad - when you go to contacts > search (light-blue letters on two-tone grey background). Is there any way of changing this keypad colour scheme to something easier to see?
I'm fine with the normal qwerty keypad.
My 5800 only shows the phone number, not the name of the person / business (as listed in my contacts).Shouldn't this happen automatically or is there are setting for this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhy is this happenning? I am facing lot of problems in my SE Neo V mobile. I updated my phone officially last week. The problems are serious and so irritating. The older version of android 2.3.4(Gigerbread) was gud when compared to this newer version of ICS. I am Facing these problems.
1. My phone dialer is too slow and takes more than 5 econds to open a dialer.
2. Unable to forward messages since it gets stuck in the contacts adding option itself when I use the forward option. And it must be Switched off and On to get back to home screen. Or else i cant message any 1 else.
3. Anything being copied to any folder using Computer show a message saying that The device is currently being stopped and cannot copy files.This is the most irritating part that i encounter always.
4. Any game like HD is not woking. It either crashes down or the application doesn't get opened at all.
can anyone please tell me How to fix these errors?? I am really Facing so many problems like these with the newer Version of Android ICS 4.0.3.And i read that using sony PC companion and also update service setup v could fix these bugs.. But doing this will expire the warranty of my phone??
I have updated to the v50 firmware ( first time OTA - it crashed, second time through OVI desktop worked fine) but now my email accounts will not refresh as they cannot contact the server? also getting the occasional massive slow down when going to the main menu if I have any app (typically music) open in background.

When I try to dial either by manually entering phone number or choosing from contacts or choosing form history...it's not working for the first time. When I tap once again it works. Then I can call anyone without problem but after changing app or returning to main desktop situation happens again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently had to reformat my memory card as the camera refused to work with the memory card inserted. I took off all pics, videos and music and saved them to the computer. However, when I've gone back to the Ovi store and into the "my stuff" tab, I cannot click the download button on many of the apps (mainly the ones that I actually use which makes it even more annoying). My husband has told me to go into "settings", then "application manager", then finally into "installed apps" and delete the files for the apps that I would like to reinstall (to reactivate the download button again). fantastic idea, but the file names don't give me any sort of clue as to what app they're for. I asked if it would be quicker and easier just to delete everything from the "installed apps" folder, at which point my husband nearly had a breakdown and told me not to do that as there were files in that folder that relate to firmware downloads and could cause more problems by deleting them.

View 7 Replies View RelatedFor months I was happily using my Nexus 5 with a SoundID 300 earpiece. Pushing the call button went into a dialer dialog with voice prompts and responses. Suddenly a few weeks ago it started going to the Google Now (aka Google Search?) function (the one you get when you say "OK Google"). Although it will generally recognize the same voice commands as the dialer dialog, there are no voice prompts or responses, so if Google Now has crashed or decides to prompt on screen for "OK or Cancel", I have to get the phone out and look at it to see why it didn't dial.
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhenever I am in a call, the dialer stays on like I have set it to. However, it intermittently refuses to accept the tones. For example, with AT&T VM, it says press 7 to delete the message. I press 7, the phone makes the tone associated with 7, but doesn't do the action associated with 7. It will do it with other phone trees too, like "press 1 for English", etc. The numbers that don't work vary as well, and sometimes it works fine.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a 5800 XpressMusic and recently bought an BH-503 Bluetooth headset. It paired easily with my 5800 and I have no problems connecting the headset to my 5800. The sound quality is good and I enjoy listening to music on the new headset. The mic, however, doesn't work when paired with my 5800. I can hear the other guy without any problems but he cannot hear me. I've tried calling all of my friends and they obviously use loads of different mobile phones and landline phones, the result is always the same. I've tried resetting the headset - to no avail. Removing it from my 5800's Bluetooth paired devices list, then adding it again - no help. To test the mic itself, I paired the headset with my PC (a Dell XPS M1530). It paired fine - and the mic works!
It's a bit on the quiet side but it works fine, I can chat on Skype and record voice on my PC. So obviously the problem is pairing the mic with my 5800. My 5800 recently came back from Nokia after some service (wouldn't switch on, now fixed) and has firmware v. 40.something (haven't got the phone at hand right now). I have beautiful sound in the headset, all the buttons work fine and I love the headset. Everything works when paired with my PC, it's just the mic not working with my 5800. FYI, I haven't tried the 5800 with other Bluetooth headsets. Maybe my 5800 has Bluetooth problems. I guess I could go back to the store where I bought the BH-503 and ask to borrow another Bluetooth headset to check if that fixes it.
I bought a new Nokia 5800 xpress music last week. I upgraded the fiwmare to 40.xx and the ovi maps to 3.0.3 immediately after purchase. I see that GPS is not working atall. I can see that GPS data at the top but i am unable to get my current position. The same is working on my frineds mobile. I live in india and dont think place is a problem. I tried to get my position using GPRS as well as WLAN biut no use. Update: I just installed Google maps and its able to detect my current position! something is not right with ovi maps i guess.
