Motorola Defy :: Text To Speech Settings - Install Voice Data Grayed Out
Jun 10, 2011I have been trying to explore these options as it is said that it works either ways. But not sure how to get it..The text to speech settings has " Install voice data" grayed out. Should I use a third party app to enable these options? But my understanding is Defy has this enabled and its a built in app....

Aug 31, 2012I've had my Defy for almost a year and avoid sending text because the screen is not touch sensitive. It is pretty constant. I have to just about bash the screen to get any response when trying to input text. It also happens when trying to answer the phone or select apps.

Jun 20, 2011A brief history if it matters to trouble shooting this. I initially had to hard reset my X2 because the data encryption feature caused some unwanted effects, i.e. the data encryption feature did not work properly. Since that hard reset, I left the default keyboard input method as multi-touch. Just today I thought I woud like to try Swype. However once I bring up the keyboard input options and select the radio button by Swype, it stays greyed out. Are there some possibly 'lock out' options I might have selected that doesn't allow me to select Swype? I know Swype works because I had it before the hard reset.

Feb 21, 2012'bog standard' defy's screen didn't activate when I was called, it rang but the screen didn't react to tapping or swiping, I was able to answer the call by pressing the on off button (seems to have woken the phone up) but then no swiping was required the call was directly active!?This has only happened a couple of times, I do have a screen foil on, but this has a cut out where the sensor is for the 'up to ear detection'.

May 15, 2011I have my (stock) phone app set up to announce an incoming caller's name (if a contact) or phone number (if not). Lately (ever since the update to .83 I think, but I can't be 100% sure) this has gone weird on me, announcing "Call from <caller's name or number>...head north...head north...." Because I always do what my phone tells me to I am now seriously considering moving to Canada.It's an inconsequential problem at worst, but I just thought I'd report it here. It is always the same: two repetitions of "head north." Note that Navigation is not loaded or running when this occurs (according to both "Manage Applications" under Settings, and also Task Manager), and GPS is not on. Clearly, something in text-to-speech is corrupted. [Edit:] The problem continues to occur after reboot.

Aug 26, 2011Since the update or attempt to install the Swype beta I've had a problem with text boxes not receiving characters entered by the keyboard or voice command. I can pull up a search or text message or email. All of them will allow the keyboard to display and it vibrates to let me know I'm pressing characters, but nothing ever actually appears in the window. Same for voice input. It appears to be working, but no words actualy appear in the text window.
