Jun 22, 2012
"itunes cou;ld not back up the iphone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone.Delete the back up for this iphone, then try again" when i try and delete the backup using edit>preferences>devices there is no backup.
The above message is what I get when i try to back up my iPhone 4s to my PC. I tried deleting the backup through Edit > Preferences and so on, but I still get the same message! How can I get rid of this message and backup my iPhone?
I have Windows 7 installed and have seriously tried everything to fix this, deleting old back ups, cheacking my firewall, unintalling and reinstalling itunes, deleting pictures that may be corrupt. I just plugged my phone into a USB connected to my sisters MacBook and it backed up perfectly! Is this something wrong with my computer?
Itunes won't let me sync my iphone. I get a message saying; "Itunes could not back up the iphone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone"
Updated my iphone4 to ios5 and I cant back up my phone now. I get the message that the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iphone. How do I delete the backup?
I use an external drive regularly, are my iPhone backups on there somewhere? My current iPhone backup says Corrupt so I need to go back further than what is available on my mac's itunes.
My new iPhone 6 won't restore an older back up from my iPhone 5 that is saved via my iTunes on my mac as it says the backup is corrupt. I gather this is something to do with different software versions on the two devices but is there a way to resolve this?
I have just tried to back-up & update my iPhone but when doing so iTunes gives an error message saing that it can't restore or back-up as the phone is corrupt? The phone is only 5 months old and was restored successfully last time

I have got all my music, photos and apps sorted but how can I save my playlists, contacts, sms and notes? I am backed up to iCloud but if I sync my phone with iTunes will I lose all my data? I haven't dared click sync as I don't want to lose what I have on my phone.
I've got a 16GB 3GS running iOS 4.0 and all of a sudden today the phone refuses to back up. iTunes is giving me the error "iTunes cannot back up the iphone because an error occurred."
It continues to sync after that and move apps and music around, but it won't back up. I tried again after that and it wouldn't sync calendars, contacts, notes, etc. Whats going on here?By the way this is on a Macbook with the newest updates for Snow Leapord and iTunes.
Trying to transfer all my data from the 4s to the 5s. Made a brand new backup from the 4s and it just says that its corrupt or not compatible when I try to restore the 5s. I have deleted all the old backups and made a new one each time.

My iPhone (3gs) will not backup because it is corrupted (so the window tells me). I get an error message that the backup was corrupt or incompatible with the iPhone, and I am told to delete the Backup for this iPhone. Where is it? How do I delete it?
I continue to get an error message without a specific error code when trying to sync and update my iPhone 4S (5.1) to iTunes (10.6.1). This started after an Apple Techincian had me restore the iPhone because I was having WiFi issues, which continued even after the fact. This is a replacement iPhone 4S. My original 4S had battery issues and had to be replaced. Unbeknownst to me, Apple replaces with refurbished iPhones, a practice I do not agree with. I experienced the WiFi dropping from the get-go with the replacement/refurbished iPhone 4S, but hung in there hoping it was just a fluke. It appears this iPhone 4S will need to be replaced.
Back to the issue at hand. I have removed all backups from iTunes. Of course now I have no backups stored on iTunes or iCloud.I have run Disk Utilities to repair permissions. I have reset the iPhone. I tried to restore it, but it will not restore since it cannot backup current data. I have made sure all OS software is updated. I have made sure permissions are unlocked in Backup folder on my HD.
I needed to update my phone to the 5.1 before I did I sync it so I could get everything back. Before I hit update I made sure it said last sync with the date and time. I proceed to update and go to sync it so I get all my info back and now I'm getting an error message saying backup is corrupt and can't restore or something along that line. I can restore it to an older backup but not the one I need. There are some very important stuff I am now missing because its an older backup
I'm trying to restore my new 4s (16g) to my backup, but it will not sync with iTunes, shows I have too much "other" taking up memory and I can't change the settings. Can't restore from backup due to corrupt file??
I've tried soft reset, restarting my computer, restoring the iPhone...exhausted and tired. Ready to return it.
I had to switch iPhones and tried to restore my Data to another iPhone. iTunes always tells me: „... cannot restore because iPhone is not compatible or backup is corrupt". My "old" iPhone with all the data on it is already in use with another config. So I went back and tried with my old one (btw. both iPhone 4s 5.1.1 iOS iTunes is 10.6.3 (25)), same message!
I restored my MobileSync folder by using TimeMachine and tried the last 8 backups to restore and failed every time with the same message. I can access the backup by using MobileSyncBrowser or iPhoneBackup Extractor. The Data is there and accessible. How can I restore the data to my iphone? Is there a way to check backups why they are corrupt an fix them? Are there different iOS5.1.1 builds? Is there a way to check the Backup for the exact iOS Build?
Error Message: iTunes could not back up the iPhone because an error occurred. The thing is - I have no idea what error have I encountered! Usually, I would assume the previous backup file is corrupted and I will proceed to delete the old backups. I did the same this time round, and it's still unable to sync. Now I have no more backup files!I have tried -
1. Deleting old backup files.
2. Restarting iPhone 4S & iMAC.
3. Remove
I am using iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4S, and iTunes 10.6.1 on Mac OSX Lion. My phone is not jail-broken in the first place.
Info: iMAC 27", Mac OS X (10.6.4), 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
I recently updated my iPhone 4 to 5.1.1 and updated my iTunes to 10.6.3. Today I tried syncing my iPhone and after letting iTunes create a backup, it showed me this dialog: "iTunes cannot backup iPhone [name] because an error occurred." There was no error code included. I tried everything, I deleted my backups (i backed them up first (backupception lol)), I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, I rebooted my PC and iPhone.
Every since the last IOS update I keep getting this error. I tried several POC and phone resets and restarts. I tried removing the old backups and then reseting some more but I keep getting this error. "ITunes could not back up the iphone "iphone" because an error occurred". I searched online and I can't find any solutions that work. Is this Apples way of trying to force you to use iCloud or is there another way to restore my phone without using the restore function and losing my data?
I recently downloaded IOS 8 from my developer account, and i got tired of all the crashes so i decided to restore back to IOS 7.1.1 , and so i downloaded the latest IOS 7 IPSW , entered DFU Mode and i held down option on my mac and clicked "Restore" , chose my IPSW, but halfway through iTunes froze. I waited for about 40 minutes but then i needed to go, so i took it out without a choice.
I came back and it was in Recovery mode,i tried the same steps, but it keeps freezing at the exact same moment.
I tried both of my mac's USB ports, two lightning bolt cables, another Windows PC, nothing seems to work.
The strange thing is, when i try to restore it on my Mac it just freezes in the middle, but when i try to restore it on my PC it just gives me an error.
The error is:" The iPhone "iPhone" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred. Error number 14".
I have everything updated,i tried to restore when it is in recovery mode, after i downloaded the IPSW from iTunes, tried downloading from multiple sources, nothing seems to work.
I am not able to sync my iPhone 3GS on iTunes. I keep getting an error "backup cannot be saved on this computer". I have tried to sync my phone to both my old desktop and my brand new laptop running the lastest version of iTunes but I keep geeting the same error. I have also tried deleteing the old backup file from the backup folder I'm trying to backup my old 3GS because my friend game me a new 3GS in perfect condition and I would like to transerfer everything over to it so I can start using it. My contacts, text messages, and photos are the most important things I want to transfer to the new phone. This shouldnt be hard to do but I get the error everytime I try to sync my current phone.
