I have an older Airport Extreme 802.11n, and have been quite happy with it. I just purchased an iPhone 5C, (refurbed from AT&T) and I've noticed I get poor WiFi reception on the porch. This is only about 38 feet away from the base station, although it is on the other side of the aluminum screen door. I still show two out of three bars, but web pages are very laggy compared to being in the same room as the router, and sometimes refuse to load.   My 2011 MBP doesn't have nearly as many problems.Â
I assume part of this is simply the fact that there's a much smaller antenna in my iPhone compared to a 17" MBP, but I'm wondering if I should be looking at the settings of my Airport; perhaps a better setup would work with the reception on my 5C.Â
I can't remember how or why I arrived at the settings I have now - it's been a while since I touched things. Â
Right now, under the "radio mode" drop down in the Airport Utility, (6.3.1) it's shows "802.11n only - (5Ghz) - 802.11b/g/n" with the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels set to "automatic".  The drop-downs are a little confusing, as I assume the Airport is still broadcasting in the 2.4GHz spectrum, as my first gen (2006, Core Duo) MacBook could still connect, and I don't believe it has a 5Ghz connection. Â

I downloaded and used Siri Assistant on my iPhone 3gs for about a year. Loved it. Now, the app still starts, but continually says there is no network connection available? Has Apple stopped supporting the stand alone version just because they have now included it in the 4gs?
Also, does the 4gs have file send capability via Bluetooth yet, and if not, what are we supposed to do with synching our contact and phone information into our Prius?
Only way I have found so far is to copy my Outlook contact list into my old Sony Ericson phone and synch it with the Prius. That worked from day one, and sure beats the heck out of trying to enter each and every contact one key at a time.
My iPhone will not connect today to my airport express. Nor will my PC it says no DNS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have a household with 3 iPhone 3GS, 1 iPhone 4S, iPad, MacBook, 3 Windows PCs. All can usually connect to the Airport Express WiFi network. However recently one iPhone 3GS phone stoped being able to connect to the Airport Express network. We tried resetting the iPhone 3GS to factory settings and this did not fix the issue. We eventually had the phone replaced under the insurance I have with our cellular provider.
Now the same iPhone has just started doing exactly the same thing again. The symptoms are that the iPhone 3GS, sees the Airport Express network, it requests the password. The user enters the password and the little radial spoked wheel rotates endlessly and the iPhone 3GS does not connect to the network. Now the WiFi IS working as I have a 3G/WiFi bridge on test called a WiBE and the phone in question CAN connect to this using WPA/WPA2.
I have rebooted the Airport Extreme and the Airport Express network extenders several times as well as the phone, but it does not make any difference. This iPhone 3GS does not like the Airport Extreme network. I cannot believe I have a second faulty handset weeks after we had it replaced. Anyway it is not faulty as it successfully connects to a different WiFi network without difficulty.
when i go to settings on my iPhone and select wi-fi on, it shows my network with a padlock and i can't access my own network. how do i unlock my network? i am using an airport express as my wireless router. i do know the password for the airport express.

View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know what the "back-up assistant" is on the new LG-VN250? My wife has this phone. At night it seems to hang up on back-up assistant. I've gotten up in the middle of the night for whatever reason and they phone screen will be totally lit up and it says "back-up assistant" with a round circle of dashes (like it's thinking). It will basically stay lit until the battery wears out. If I put it on the charger in this stage, it will not charge. If I turn it off and back on it seems to work fine. We wore one battery completely out in about a week. Currently we shut the phone off at night and that preserves the juice.
Does anyone know if this is a feature that can be turned off in a deep firmware menu? Verizon doesn't know what the problem is. It's a new phone and currently at software revision 1.1. They didn't know when the next software revision would be coming down the pike.
I have got a new one Bold 9780, the first time BlackBerry for me, when setting up the email I am not able to find the option "Internet mail account" but I have only the option "Enterprise account" possible?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't know if I'm missing something obvious but I see several of you use this so maybe you can tell me. I have never used this on my X before (did use it on a previous non-smartphone). I have my contacts synced to my google account. I wanted a little reduncancy so thought I would try the backup assistant. So I ran it and set up a PIN. I clicked Sync Now and it says it is syncing but the count stays at 0 for both Backed up and Pending. Then it lists the sync as successful but no contacts were synced.
I went online to my account and looked just to make sure it wasn't just reporting it wrong on my phone but no contacts are in the list there. There don't seem to be any settings to change except for the Recurring Sync time - am I missing something else? I did Force stop the app and the client and battery pull and cache partition wipe with no change.
I just bought an ATRIX 2 at end of October and have spent days trying to make WIFI connection work.I could get to internet via cellular 3/4 G but although the phone would show the WIFI network and know it was there it wouldn't connect. It would try and then say "Disconnected".Finally, through reading tons of blog entries on different sites, I pieced together a solution I wanted to pass on to others.I have an Airport Extreme router. It was necessary to enter the MAC Address from my phone into Airports setup using Airport Utility. Then I also had to explicitly choose a Radio Mode that did NOT include the "N" option. Most options are hidden (for some bizarre unkown reason) so when clicking on the Radio Mode field in Airport Utility Wireless Section, hold down the "Option" key (at least on MacBook...maybe Control on Windows, but then you prob don't have an Airport router). This brings up a bunch of Radio options not shown by default.Choose one with no "N". Then be sure the Enable Auto IP" is checked "ON" under the Wireless Settings/Advanced section.Once this was done, have full strength connection and blazing fast.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI only use the contacts synched from my Google account on my phone, so I have absolutely no need for Verizon's "Backup Assistant" - yet it's running on my phone anyway and I don't know how to disable it (short of killing it from a task manager - which I've read is not a good idea). When I go to Menu->Manage Apps->Running, I see "Backup Assistant" and another application with the same icon named "Sync Service" both running - using 1.6MB and 2.7MB of RAM respectively. It doesn't give you the option of uninstalling it from the app drawer like other apps do. Is there a way to disable it without rooting the phone?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI was working with Back-up Assistant, scrolled down so i could click "I Accept" on the RIM warning screen stating that I was going to a 3rd party site...and I couldn't highlight the "I Accept" button (or the "don't accept" button for that matter). So, I just exited from that screen, but now when I go to the main menu, it is frozen on the Back-Up Assistant icon. I can't move the trackball off of it. The trackball obviously isn't broken, because I can move around the 5 icons on the home screen....it just won't work on the menu screen....

View 2 Replies View RelatedPrior to having an android phone, I was using some other "not so smart" phone, and all of my contacts were handled through Backup Assistant. Now I have my android phone (DX2) and want to move all of my contacts to my Gmail account instead of Backup Assisitant. I am planning on leaving Verizon and going with another android phone, on Sprint. If I don't want to re-enter approximately 500 contacts (498) manually, I need to sync all of my contacts to gmail. There had been an app for that, but Verizon took it out of the market.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe last few nights I've been annoyed to wake up to error message on my D3 about Backup Assistant not being able to connect because the network is unavailable. I have no idea what that error statement is all about, but the thing that made me really angry is that there is no reason for Backup Assistant to be running at all. With the Droid 3, all my contacts are already backed up via the exchange server and google. I have no use for this bit of VZW bloatware, which was apparently initialized by folk at the VZW store who activated my phone.
To make matters worse, there is no option on the Droid for turning off Backup Assistant. It lets you change the time it runs, but there is no easy option to tell it not to run. However, I discovered a work-around today which doesn't involve rooting or anything like that: Go to Settings> Manage Applications> All, click on "Contacts sync" and then "clear default." Backup Assistant will not run again unless you reinitialize it.
I'm trying to connect to an Airport base station that has a 6-letter password, but my BlackBerry insists that it must have 6 or 10 digit hexadecimal password or something like that, and won't accept when I enter the correct password—it won't even try to connect! Is it me or is this a ludicrous problem? I've searched everywhere and can't find a solution. Changing the base station password is not an option because it's shared by a lot of people.

I believe I have since narrowed it down to occur only when I am at my office and connected to the office Apple airport WiFi.
I am on my second device and don't think returning will be useful as it must be software.
I keep getting Backup Assistant popping up when I want to save a contact or other things, and I want it disabled or removed and I've found no way to do that. I don't need to backup anything with Verizon or Motorola... I already do that with Google. How do I disable or remove this stuff so it's not constantly popping up or running in the background or starting up and taking up memory?
Also the Sync Service seems to be constantly there and I'm not sure what it does. It's red arrows circling a black lock and looks like another Motorola or Verizon app that I don't need that will get in the way.
When i get to the wifi setup screen (no wifi available) it wont let me continue with setup without selecting a wifi network...there isnt one around so cannot continue with the setup, is there no way around this ?

I have a new-to-me device, after my original Curve 8530 had to be sent back to the carrier. I restored old settings from a backup re Desktop Manager, but now there are messaging problems. One, my setup folder doesn't have an e-mail setup option. Two, in "Email Reconciliation" option, only chloice I have is to change the e-mail account on "Message Services" drop-down. Related to that, if I'm in "messages," my Options screen lacks "Reconcile Now."
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought my first BlackBerry (Curve 3G 9300) on Friday and tried to setup a personal email account on the phone via the setup wizard earlier today. The phone said that an update to 6.11...... was needed in order to do this. I let it update, now the phone is just hanging after starting up. If I do a start up after removing the battery it comes up with a black screen with the BlackBerry logo and a progress bar below it. The progress bar moves along until the end, this takes around a minute. It then shows something like a little clock over the logo for about a second. Once this disappears the phone says with the logo and the completed progress bar - and just hangs there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently re-activated my old Storm for my wife (her first smartphone). After reactivation, I tried to set up email so she could check her Hotmail, but the setup wizard only shows one option - enterprise email through Exchange. I know when I use to use the Storm myself, I had both Hotmail and a POP email account set up with no problems. Is this a device issue or a carrier issue? I had Bell activate the Storm on a minimal (200MB) BlackBerry data plan and the phone seems to work fine (as a phone, at least!)
