Motorola Droid 3 :: Backup Assistant Not Able To Connect - Network Unavailable
Aug 30, 2011
The last few nights I've been annoyed to wake up to error message on my D3 about Backup Assistant not being able to connect because the network is unavailable. I have no idea what that error statement is all about, but the thing that made me really angry is that there is no reason for Backup Assistant to be running at all. With the Droid 3, all my contacts are already backed up via the exchange server and google. I have no use for this bit of VZW bloatware, which was apparently initialized by folk at the VZW store who activated my phone.
To make matters worse, there is no option on the Droid for turning off Backup Assistant. It lets you change the time it runs, but there is no easy option to tell it not to run. However, I discovered a work-around today which doesn't involve rooting or anything like that: Go to Settings> Manage Applications> All, click on "Contacts sync" and then "clear default." Backup Assistant will not run again unless you reinitialize it.
I don't know if I'm missing something obvious but I see several of you use this so maybe you can tell me. I have never used this on my X before (did use it on a previous non-smartphone). I have my contacts synced to my google account. I wanted a little reduncancy so thought I would try the backup assistant. So I ran it and set up a PIN. I clicked Sync Now and it says it is syncing but the count stays at 0 for both Backed up and Pending. Then it lists the sync as successful but no contacts were synced.
I went online to my account and looked just to make sure it wasn't just reporting it wrong on my phone but no contacts are in the list there. There don't seem to be any settings to change except for the Recurring Sync time - am I missing something else? I did Force stop the app and the client and battery pull and cache partition wipe with no change.
I only use the contacts synched from my Google account on my phone, so I have absolutely no need for Verizon's "Backup Assistant" - yet it's running on my phone anyway and I don't know how to disable it (short of killing it from a task manager - which I've read is not a good idea). When I go to Menu->Manage Apps->Running, I see "Backup Assistant" and another application with the same icon named "Sync Service" both running - using 1.6MB and 2.7MB of RAM respectively. It doesn't give you the option of uninstalling it from the app drawer like other apps do. Is there a way to disable it without rooting the phone?
Prior to having an android phone, I was using some other "not so smart" phone, and all of my contacts were handled through Backup Assistant. Now I have my android phone (DX2) and want to move all of my contacts to my Gmail account instead of Backup Assisitant. I am planning on leaving Verizon and going with another android phone, on Sprint. If I don't want to re-enter approximately 500 contacts (498) manually, I need to sync all of my contacts to gmail. There had been an app for that, but Verizon took it out of the market.
I keep getting Backup Assistant popping up when I want to save a contact or other things, and I want it disabled or removed and I've found no way to do that. I don't need to backup anything with Verizon or Motorola... I already do that with Google. How do I disable or remove this stuff so it's not constantly popping up or running in the background or starting up and taking up memory?
Also the Sync Service seems to be constantly there and I'm not sure what it does. It's red arrows circling a black lock and looks like another Motorola or Verizon app that I don't need that will get in the way.
my droid X2 will not connect to my home Wifi network. I have to reboot my router to get it to connect. It tries to connect but displays a message that it is "Getting an IP address" but never connects without a router reboot. This is a big pain.
If I unmask my WiFi network, I can connect to it with my Droid Razr.
If I turn off broadcasting, I know its still there - I have laptops and an iPhone that still find it an can connect to it. But my new RAZR doesn't seem to know how to locate/connect to it .
What settings do I need to change to get this to work.
I was having a flickering backlight issue with my droid X so as part of the process of troubleshooting it, I did a factory reset. Good news is that the flickering backlight issue seems to be gone but now I have other more important issues.
During the activation process I successfully signed into my google account and it synched my contacts, my gmail, my calendar etc. Then I received a warning notification that signing to Gtalk authentication had failed. Also, when I try to download an app from the market, it will not download. Nor will downloads start initiated by installing them from the web front market.
I've noticed that neither my cell reception indicator nor my 3G/wifi icons on the notification bar are blue. They are just white. They usually were blue before the factory reset. I've read that this could indicate that Android is still synching my phone after the reset but its been a few hours now and it wont go blue
I've just bought a used phone the old users reset it back to factory settings, the phone is locked to T Mobile i recently got a new t mobile sim card it loads up fine but i notice that it says on mobile network 'network unavailble' seems to not be connected to a network even though it should be connected to T mobile.when i click on it in the operator selection i choose T Mobile but it says 'no access' i also cant make any calls on it when i do any call it says 'emergency calls only'
When i insert a sim card into the sim 2 slot, the sim is detected but no network reception. Ive tried with different sim cards and the same thing happens. The signal comes once in a blue moon and dissappears almost immediately/?
I just got a BB Storm today. Installed the BB desktop manager on my computer. However, when I click on the desktop manager icon to get started, I get the message: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'BlackBerry 8130.msi' in the box below." I am not sure what to do next.
I updated both Iphone 4's to 5.1.1. and now whether related or not both phones are wonky dropping WIFI in the house. It comes on and off when it pleases. I looked at the time capsule for WIFI settings and all seems fine. My Ipad2 works fine and AppleTV gen2 works fine just both Iphones. My network shows up in the WIFI list and when I touch to log in it says network is unavailable.
i came a cross an interesting post unfortunately also with no solution. so i am starting a new thread because the old 1 had about 15 posts none of which were answered just more questions posed, so to business.i wondered why i could not get the new updates or why it did not show up, then i read several posts from people with phones that were bought unlocked for any network and they all had the same problem updates not showing up when there are updates to be had.
My other half gets an error on her Razor Maxx phone that says " Network error please check the network" . It comes up just about every time she does anythign with the phone. She called the provider and did troubleshoot it and they say nothing is wrong with the settings and network. Almost say that it isn't happenning. This has become quite annoying and I've seen it myself. I have same phone and no issues with mine at all .. we purchased at same time and did upgrades at same time as well
I changed my theme today and when I did, I noticed that I has a Backup Assistant Icon on my background. Is this true? Blackberries have Backup Assistant now? Please tell me I didn't download a virus.
I'm hesitated to buy BB because i want to know:If not ,does downloaded WLM work with wifi? (because it doesn't using my friend's BB with my OWN sim card.I'm trying to connect downloaded WLM over WIFI but is says: data services unavailable )Installing third party applications ex: Antivirus , games or etc...if i want to use wifi for other things than BB services such as updating those third parties, can it be done over wifi?want to know how much restrictions do i have using Wifi in BB an i do all the other things on wifi that is usually/normally done on wifi excluding BB services ?
We have a new xoom. Last night it connected fine to our network and the internet.Today at the office it is connected to the network, shows an ip address but when I try get on the internet, it just thinks forever and then times out
My phone currently can make calls and send text messages but it will not send/rx data type calls. The H+ icon is displayed and I'm in a good signal area. Wi-Fi works fine. In the Phone status menu, I see a potential problem in that the Mobile Network state is set to "disconnected". Mobile Net type = HSPA (which stands for what?), Service state = "in service", and I'm on an AT&T network.how to get my mobile network state back on?
I have a 6 week old ZOOM WiFi which in the last week has started to endlessly reboot when attempting to connect to my home network. It stops rebooting when Wi-Fi is turned off. When WiFi is turned back on, the rebooting starts again. Before I realised what was causing the reboot, I restored it to factory settings, and this seemed to work for a few days. No apps have been downloaded since then. I have tried a soft reboot without success.
I've gone home and wanted to change my SIM card to the home one. Now MotoBlur wants me to put in the password and stuff. Did that and it says: "The phone radio is unable to connect to the network. Make sure the radio is on, or move into a better cover area". Same story when I put my UK (the orginal) SIM card in. Tried to connect to wifi, that won;t work either.
My Xoom post upgrade to 4G is now assigning the IP address of 192.168.20.1 to the device usb1 everytime it is rebooted. This apparently hardwired configuration conflicts with my homenetwork's default gateway. Is there anyway to change this with out rooting the device? I would rather not have to re-IP my home network or not be able to connect to any network via Wifi who uses that IP address as a default gateway.
Every so often I get a notification in a computer voice that says "Network Extender" - has anyone else had this, what does it mean and how do I shut it off?
Coming from a rooted Droid Razr MAXX using Titanium Backup to backup my apps and their data and settings, I'm feeling lost and extremely exposed with my unprotected Turbo.
Both Verizon and Virgin Mobile (Sprint) has CDMA and CDMA2000 network. If I bought Droid X, can I unlock it, and use it on Virgin Mobile? Because it is much cheaper...
I received the ICS update...everything has been fine but today i have no network. No bars, no 3G/4G/1X....i get a message that tells me a CDMA network cannot be found. Right now I have one tiny bar but that's all...
I lost my data signal AGAIN while uploading a picture from Facebook. Now I have this orange triagle in the upper left corner of my screen and on the drop down menu is says "Download requires network" which I can not get rid of.
