Motorola Droid X :: Can't Sync With Backup Assistant
Jun 7, 2011
I don't know if I'm missing something obvious but I see several of you use this so maybe you can tell me. I have never used this on my X before (did use it on a previous non-smartphone). I have my contacts synced to my google account. I wanted a little reduncancy so thought I would try the backup assistant. So I ran it and set up a PIN. I clicked Sync Now and it says it is syncing but the count stays at 0 for both Backed up and Pending. Then it lists the sync as successful but no contacts were synced.
I went online to my account and looked just to make sure it wasn't just reporting it wrong on my phone but no contacts are in the list there. There don't seem to be any settings to change except for the Recurring Sync time - am I missing something else? I did Force stop the app and the client and battery pull and cache partition wipe with no change.
I keep getting Backup Assistant popping up when I want to save a contact or other things, and I want it disabled or removed and I've found no way to do that. I don't need to backup anything with Verizon or Motorola... I already do that with Google. How do I disable or remove this stuff so it's not constantly popping up or running in the background or starting up and taking up memory?
Also the Sync Service seems to be constantly there and I'm not sure what it does. It's red arrows circling a black lock and looks like another Motorola or Verizon app that I don't need that will get in the way.
I only use the contacts synched from my Google account on my phone, so I have absolutely no need for Verizon's "Backup Assistant" - yet it's running on my phone anyway and I don't know how to disable it (short of killing it from a task manager - which I've read is not a good idea). When I go to Menu->Manage Apps->Running, I see "Backup Assistant" and another application with the same icon named "Sync Service" both running - using 1.6MB and 2.7MB of RAM respectively. It doesn't give you the option of uninstalling it from the app drawer like other apps do. Is there a way to disable it without rooting the phone?
Prior to having an android phone, I was using some other "not so smart" phone, and all of my contacts were handled through Backup Assistant. Now I have my android phone (DX2) and want to move all of my contacts to my Gmail account instead of Backup Assisitant. I am planning on leaving Verizon and going with another android phone, on Sprint. If I don't want to re-enter approximately 500 contacts (498) manually, I need to sync all of my contacts to gmail. There had been an app for that, but Verizon took it out of the market.
The last few nights I've been annoyed to wake up to error message on my D3 about Backup Assistant not being able to connect because the network is unavailable. I have no idea what that error statement is all about, but the thing that made me really angry is that there is no reason for Backup Assistant to be running at all. With the Droid 3, all my contacts are already backed up via the exchange server and google. I have no use for this bit of VZW bloatware, which was apparently initialized by folk at the VZW store who activated my phone.
To make matters worse, there is no option on the Droid for turning off Backup Assistant. It lets you change the time it runs, but there is no easy option to tell it not to run. However, I discovered a work-around today which doesn't involve rooting or anything like that: Go to Settings> Manage Applications> All, click on "Contacts sync" and then "clear default." Backup Assistant will not run again unless you reinitialize it.
I changed my theme today and when I did, I noticed that I has a Backup Assistant Icon on my background. Is this true? Blackberries have Backup Assistant now? Please tell me I didn't download a virus.
I just noticed that my calendar was not syncing with my Google calendar, and went in to settions>accounts and noticed that the sync brower (which was new to me) had stalled and turned the sync circle "red". I then shut off sync browser and rebooted a couple times and my calendar is now synced. Seems that Google is adding feattures as don't recall seeing sync browser.Just curious, is there a webpage that documents or advises updates to this device so that I don't scratch my head each time? The "Apps" do a great job of advising changes, sure would be nice to see changes in the OS.
Coming from a rooted Droid Razr MAXX using Titanium Backup to backup my apps and their data and settings, I'm feeling lost and extremely exposed with my unprotected Turbo.
I've been told by Verizon and by Motorola that I need to do a factory reset. (Moto Approach stopped working yesterday and we can't get it to start again.)
Before doing that, is there any way to backup my folder settings (which apps are grouped together in which folders on my home screens)
My calendar syncs to the phone, but not the otherway. Also, on the sync page where calendar sync esists, it says it has synced when it hasn't. also the sync symbol is greyed out but is barely visible when it is doing a sync for gmail, and calendar.
I am trying to set my email sync so that it only syncs one way. When I delete an email on my phone, I don't want it to be deleted on the server. I've seen some information about checking "keep a copy on server"
Right now I have multipule contacts on my atrix that are "linked." Is there anyway to permanently consolidate all the linked contacts into one and export all my contacts as a csv file for outlook and gmail?
My Droil Pro last week worked fine with Sync and Blue Tooth. Then it started to disconnect. After connecting to Sync, in a about 15 seconds it will suddenly disconnect from Sync The Blue Tooth is still connected and it will stream music from my phone to Sync with no problems but the phone will not stay connected.
It's been over 24 hours since the GB update and the sync icon is still present. I have also deleted and re-installed my 2 gmail accounts as well as my corporate email and a yahoo account. Also cleared the phone's cache. All email seems to be syncing properly though gmail appears a little on the slow side and some email is appearing in the wrong folder on the phone. For example, some unread emails are showing up in the gmail all mail folder rather than the gmail inbox. If I go online with a computer, gmail has it correctly...it's just not correct on the phone after the GB update.
did a factory reset on my phone to try and fix other problems. I setup my Corporate Sync account and it is getting emails from the exchange server but it is not syncing my calendar. Also when I go into the Blur "My Accounts" and select "Corporate Sync" there is no username listed just ****** for password and no way to turn on calendar sync. Also, if I hit the OK button I get an error that the username must not be blank. This is very tuff to correct since the username field is disabled and I am also unable to delete the account to set it up again. Really wish Blur was an option on this phone until they had these bugs fixed! I can from a Droid 1 with vanilla Android it wasn't pretty but I will take functioning over looks EVERY time.
I've had my phone since January. Its always super slow and the battery is super bad. Also, at times it just turns off and acts up. But my main concern here the constant sync sign that I get next to the 3G logo. What does it mean and how do I get it out? And... is there a reason why my 3G and antenna bar are colored white at times and blue at other times?
I recently noticed that I did not receive some critical emails from my Gmail account.I was able to manually sync the my email, but auto sync is no longer working. While trying to diagnose the problem I realized that my Yahoo Mail was also not updating on my device. My Yahoo account continuously trying to sync until finally it timed out.I tried to sync again and it gave an error message that it could not conntect to url..I tried everything with Yahoo Mail and finally deleted the account and tried to reinstall the account. At that point it would not let me rebuild the account, each time indicating it could not connect to the server.
I tried using the Yahoo mail app and I tried using the Motorola Droid mail app. Both failed to allow me to rebuild my account.I have had these accounts for quite some time, so something has changed in the last week that has caused my mail sync to suddenly fail.Gmail will update manually. Yahoo mail account is now deleted and will not allow rebuild.I have three Comcast mail accounts that sync with the Motorola email client without problems.I believe there may be a deeper issue with Yahoo mail because I also found my desktop client (Thunderbird) will no longer get Yahoo mail updates.
My AOL mail will not sync on my droid razr maxx hd. It had not synced for 2 days, I deleted the account, when I tried to add it again it will not connect to the server.
I received the GB update and I have not received any email from my corporate accout. It was working just fine prior to the update. I have deleted the accout and have tried to add it back in but it is not working. I get an "invalid username or passord" error. I have checked and double checked and all of the settings are unchanged.Anyone else having this problem and if you fixed it how did you do it?
With my original Droid (first ever model) I could easily sync to all my folders of pictures on Picasa Web. With my Motorola Bionic I am unable to do so.
I haven't been able to get the phone to sync my dismissals of an appointment or invite in either direction. For example, if I dismiss a 3 PM appointment on my phone, the reminder still shows up on my webmail (even if I refresh webmail). If I dismiss a 4 PM appointment on my webmail, it continues to show up in my phone Notifications regardless. Yet everything else in my calendar sync is working fine.
I tested this in Moxier, Touchdown, and RoadSync too. RoadSync had the exact same problem. Curiously, Moxier would sync dismissals from the phone to the PC, but not from the PC to the phone. Touchdown was the exact opposite: It would sync dismissals from the PC to the phone, but not from the phone to the PC.
I had assumed this would be standard functionality. Is my Exchange server set up funny? Or is it this way intentionally, because some users want to be able to dismiss appointments on one device but still have them show up on another?
My gmail works like this; gmail loads both phone and PC with new mail. I can delete selected new mail on PC, then power the phone off/on and the phone updates to show that the mail was deleted. My hotmail loads both phone and PC with new mail. I delete mail on PC and power phone off/on but it doesn't update on the phone. I have 8 emails on PC and 87 emails on the phone. If hotmail can comunicate with the phone to load mail, why won't it comunicate with the phone to delete mail?
every time a new email comes in, I receive a notification alert. Since the notification is useful for other critical functions (receiving alerts on a system down - I am a Network dude), I cannot disable notifications. I find it very annoying that I have to run over to my phone every time I receive an email, thinking it might be a system down notification. I cannot selectively disable notifications by account. On My Xoom tablet, when setting up accounts, I have the option to Sync the account automatically, or not. If automatic sync is off, I can check my email at my leaisure, while only receiving notifications for important events.
I went to Menu, Manage Apps, then Manage All Apps, then Accounts & Sync Settings.I cleared the cache, and then pressed on "Clear Data".Did I make a mistake by doing this, possibly deleting something I shouldn't have?
Does anybody know what the "back-up assistant" is on the new LG-VN250? My wife has this phone. At night it seems to hang up on back-up assistant. I've gotten up in the middle of the night for whatever reason and they phone screen will be totally lit up and it says "back-up assistant" with a round circle of dashes (like it's thinking). It will basically stay lit until the battery wears out. If I put it on the charger in this stage, it will not charge. If I turn it off and back on it seems to work fine. We wore one battery completely out in about a week. Currently we shut the phone off at night and that preserves the juice.
Does anyone know if this is a feature that can be turned off in a deep firmware menu? Verizon doesn't know what the problem is. It's a new phone and currently at software revision 1.1. They didn't know when the next software revision would be coming down the pike.
So im back on the Android Band Wagon(should have never left) was on Windows 8.1 phone. question is all my contacts were on the windows phone i think on outlook cloud. Is there a way to sync Google contacts with Outlook contacts and have facebook pictures also all combined into the phone app or main contacts screen, seems some of my contacts are missing or im doing somithing wrong.
I use Google chrome on my laptop. I use the droid turbo for work and fun. How can I sync my phone and laptop so that the contacts are the same? I'm logged into my computer in chrome with my gmail account thats the same on both.
I currently have a Droid Pro, wanted to set up Hotmail as IMAP or Active Sync. Currently have it set up as POP3, but wanted the full capabilities from the phone. (Yes, I know, the simple answer is to switch to gmail, but I have had this hotmail account for many years). I have tried the steps listed here: [URL]
Added a Corporate Sync account. Entered these parameters: Email Address: <my email> Password: <my password> Domain: Blank Username: <my email> Server: m.hotmail.com Use secure connection: Checked
When I enter these details, it adds the account to the phone. However, when I go into that account, after a few minutes I get an error: "Unable to connect to Hotmail1." The strange thing is, I am able to see my subfolder set up after it timed out while trying to connect. How to get Hotmail working on a Droid Pro...other than POP3?
