Motorola Droid X2 :: How To Disable Verizon Backup Assistant
Aug 10, 2011
I only use the contacts synched from my Google account on my phone, so I have absolutely no need for Verizon's "Backup Assistant" - yet it's running on my phone anyway and I don't know how to disable it (short of killing it from a task manager - which I've read is not a good idea). When I go to Menu->Manage Apps->Running, I see "Backup Assistant" and another application with the same icon named "Sync Service" both running - using 1.6MB and 2.7MB of RAM respectively. It doesn't give you the option of uninstalling it from the app drawer like other apps do. Is there a way to disable it without rooting the phone?
I keep getting Backup Assistant popping up when I want to save a contact or other things, and I want it disabled or removed and I've found no way to do that. I don't need to backup anything with Verizon or Motorola... I already do that with Google. How do I disable or remove this stuff so it's not constantly popping up or running in the background or starting up and taking up memory?
Also the Sync Service seems to be constantly there and I'm not sure what it does. It's red arrows circling a black lock and looks like another Motorola or Verizon app that I don't need that will get in the way.
I don't know if I'm missing something obvious but I see several of you use this so maybe you can tell me. I have never used this on my X before (did use it on a previous non-smartphone). I have my contacts synced to my google account. I wanted a little reduncancy so thought I would try the backup assistant. So I ran it and set up a PIN. I clicked Sync Now and it says it is syncing but the count stays at 0 for both Backed up and Pending. Then it lists the sync as successful but no contacts were synced.
I went online to my account and looked just to make sure it wasn't just reporting it wrong on my phone but no contacts are in the list there. There don't seem to be any settings to change except for the Recurring Sync time - am I missing something else? I did Force stop the app and the client and battery pull and cache partition wipe with no change.
Prior to having an android phone, I was using some other "not so smart" phone, and all of my contacts were handled through Backup Assistant. Now I have my android phone (DX2) and want to move all of my contacts to my Gmail account instead of Backup Assisitant. I am planning on leaving Verizon and going with another android phone, on Sprint. If I don't want to re-enter approximately 500 contacts (498) manually, I need to sync all of my contacts to gmail. There had been an app for that, but Verizon took it out of the market.
The last few nights I've been annoyed to wake up to error message on my D3 about Backup Assistant not being able to connect because the network is unavailable. I have no idea what that error statement is all about, but the thing that made me really angry is that there is no reason for Backup Assistant to be running at all. With the Droid 3, all my contacts are already backed up via the exchange server and google. I have no use for this bit of VZW bloatware, which was apparently initialized by folk at the VZW store who activated my phone.
To make matters worse, there is no option on the Droid for turning off Backup Assistant. It lets you change the time it runs, but there is no easy option to tell it not to run. However, I discovered a work-around today which doesn't involve rooting or anything like that: Go to Settings> Manage Applications> All, click on "Contacts sync" and then "clear default." Backup Assistant will not run again unless you reinitialize it.
Motorola should probably disable the disabling ability of the App "Verizon Login"although this is not found in your app drawer it is under Apps > ALL and can be disabled.if like me one of the first things you did with your phone was run through the apps list and uninstall any updates and then disable everything that had Verizon included in its name and maybe a few other or everything that you can disable.you want to keep this one not disabled if you plan to use anything like NFL Mobile or listed as a Verizon app. i did not diagnose all apps that could be affected but the fact that this particular process caused me to have something not work has made me leave it enabled for good.this again may not be needed for everyone but i wanted to mention that if something is giving you network issues check this is not disabled.to check go to settings > apps > all > verizon login > check that it is allowed?
I have a cousin that has a droid that was originally Verizon but was flashed to metropcs and now wants it flashed back to Verizon. Now I have no idea how to or if its even possible so if anyone can point me in the right direction to a how to guide or maybe a site that can do this.
I have done extensive research and have yet to find a way to do it. Handscent, Group SMS... Chomp..ect.. Can rooting the phone make it possible? There are programs that say that is how to do it..I'm in dire straights here for my work senario..otherwise I will sadly have to switch..
Just in case anyone is fighting with data connections today (3/2/12), Verizon has a 4G outage going - at least in my area. I'm in the Maryland suburbs outside DC. My service has been down for a couple of hours so far.
I cannot get this phone to work with a SIM from companies in Poland. I tried Orange,Play and T mobile.Voice worked with Orange but no data. I am more interested in data. The sim lock is unlocked and I set up the APN per instructions provided with the SIMs?
The back replaces the (extended) battery cover and it a bit thicker and heavier but not bad at all. It fits well on the phone, no issues and the back of the phone remains flat (no uneven raised portions on the cover). The cover connects to the four charing pins on the back of the phone (under the cover) so you don't need any cables that use the usb port as on some of the third party wireless phone chargers.Setup was as simple as changing the back of the phone, powering the charging pad and laying the phone on the pad. I didn't time how long it too to charge but when my phone was down 50% it didn't seem longer than the usb charger. There is an indicator on the pad that lets you know when the phone is not charging (off or not properly placed on the pad), charging or fully charged and an audible that sounds when you place the phone correctly on the pad.
You can feel when the phone is correctly placed as if there's a magnet in the pad and phone back. The bottom of the phone overhands the pad by about 1/2 inch. I was planning to get a picture frame type holder to prop up the pad so the phone can be easily viewed on my desk. With the phone being longer than the pad, it might not work as well as I wanted but I can probably still do it in landscape mode.
I am having lots of problems in getting my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop to connect to my Motorola Verizon Droid Razr using Verizon's Hot Spot.It appears to see the Verizon Hot Spot and statse connected but says limited connectivity and keeps disconnecting and refreshing and reconnecting stateing either " Limited Connectivity or No Internet" Also when it did the one time make a connection it would not go to any web pages even tho it stated connected with internet connectivity.
Verizon was making in JB was to remove their 'Verizon App' bloatware (in exchange for a boatload of Google bloatware). I had it disabled in ICS, but after the JB update (MAXX HD), not only is it still there, now it won't allow "Disable." It does allow a "Force Stop" if it's running, but no disable. The only real effect is take up a valuable icon spot on my app page, but since no one actually uses the Verizon app store, why even include it, much less put a firewall around it?
I noticed on my Razr that when I receive a new email I see the LED flash Green. When I get a Facebook or Gmail notice the LED flashes Blue. I have looked on the phone to try and see these settings for the LED color and cannot find a setting.
Is there somewhere to view/change this setting or is this just standard with the phone ?
steps are listed below for verizon customers only with 4G Devices with " ICS or Jelly Bean "
how to switch from 4G to CDMA mode verizon devices.
For whatever reason, Verizon and Motorola have removed the option under Mobile Network Settings to switch to "CDMA Only" in the Ice Cream Sandwich update that is headed to RAZRs over the next few days. For anyone that doesn't have a RAZR MAXX, this is a problem, as LTE destroys batteries faster than you can charge them. In place of the former "CDMA Only" option is a "Global" feature for those that travel the world. Why they didn't leave the old option and simply add "Global" to the list is a great mystery, but don't worry, we have a way to get you onto 3G and saving batteries in just a few steps.
What can I do to get my Droid X to play wav files again like it used to fresh out of the box? If there is no solution can I go back to the software I had before the update?
I just did another factory reset after the latest update. What do ya know, I'm now having a problem adding my Verizon email account. I tried to add it and after I enter the email and password I'm get a login failed notice. I've tried it a bunch of times and I cant get it to add.
whenever I open Chrome on my phone and choose bookmarks, by default it brings me to the Verizon Bookmarks (which it won't even let me delete). Is there anyway I can get the phone to open to my bookmarks by default instead of Verizon's? Extra points if someone can tell me how to delete Verizon's bookmarks permanently.
Airtime FREE VZW software update! Due to network changes you must dial *228 in VZW coverage area, press SEND & choose Option 1 to reprogram phone.I tried it for kicks. It won't let you on a 4G device with a SIM card. The message tells me "SIM card has activated your service and updated your phone's roaming capabilities."So I guess with the SIM we no longer have to update roaming using *228 as in the past. I am guessing Verizon sent the message by mistake.
My Verizon Data App stopped letting me log in and after getting no response as to what might be wrong, I decided to just delete the app and then reinstall it on my homepage. After I deleted it, I went to all Apps and it's not there! So is there a way to Undo a delete or does anyone know how I can go about getting back the app that tells me how much of my data I've used?
I want to take full advantage of HD video camera on my Droid Turbo, and found an external lavalier lapel microphone (Audio Technica 3350iS, which comes with an adapter for "smartphones including iPhone and newer Android phones"). But even when I use the adapter, the video recorder will only use the phone's on board mic. How can I disable/mute the onboard mic? Scoured the interweb, and at one point there was a perfect app "Mute Mic", but the NSA or Google or Motorola decided it was too useful to live.
