It has been working fine since getting the phone only having to use password once . thee was an update yesterday to 5.1 or similar so not sure if this has an impact. im sure my password is correct but saying its wrong... also saying I can unlock via google account but haven't set that up .. at least I don't think I have

Got my new phone yesterday. Apparently I did the fingerprint set up but now it doesn't recognize my fingerprint and what the backup password is. I can change the regular access password but apparently that is different than the backup password needed for the fingerprint set up.

After i tried to unlock the device inserting the right password but it dosen't recognize it. Now i'm so worried about lost all my data, casue i haven't done recently a backup. Recently, the scanner was unable to read my fingerprint so my phone disabled the fingerprint unlock option and came up with the notification "Enter backup password to verify fingerprint." I thought I remembered the right password, but apparently not, so I am unable to change or update my fingerprint at all.
From what I've read, a lot of people have problems on the lock screen, but my lock screen is fine since I use a pin, I just can't remember my backup password for my fingerprint. I've already tried Samsung's Find My Mobile, and I would really like to avoid doing a factory reset.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy friend had his Galaxy S5 set to unlock with a fingerprint, however yesterday the strangest thing happened. It no longer asks for a fingerprint, it goes directly to the alternate password. I would like to clarify again that its not that it does not accept his prints like happens to a lot of people, it simply does not give the choice to use them. Now I don't know if he forgot his password or the phone wont accept it (like he claims) but he can't use the alternate password to log into the phone. He is completely locked out. As a last case resort I will back up whatever I can using my computer and reset it to factory defaults.
As a final note I've tried the google device manager to reset the password, his S5 does not appear on his account. I expect that is because it is not a gmail account but a school account using google apps.
I'm looking for a password storing app that may use the fingerprint scanner built into the galaxy s5 but I'm not sure if it exists.
Also, what else can the fingerprint scanner be used for?

The fingerprint animation isn't playing and doesn't recognise that I am swiping the home button.I have tried entering the backup password and it says I have entered it incorrectly when I am for certain entered it correctly.Changing keyboards doesn't fix this. Restarting the phone and removing the battery and SD card does not fix this.
I have previously registered for the Google Device Manager and have tried locking my phone, but that doesn't seem to work. Do I need to have an Internet connection or GPS on my phone to do that? If so, I can't connect to the internet or activate GPS due to it being locked. Is there any way around this?

I love my S5. Have been using the fingerprint scanner to unlock without a problem since day 1.Today, it wouldn't recognize my prints at all. I went in to try to re-register them, and it won't allow me to. It asks for my alternate password, and doesn't recognize it. I know I'm typing in the correct password.
If I click on change alternate password, it accepts it, and asks me to type in a new password (twice). Upon the second time, an error message pops up saying there is an issue with the scanner and to restart the device, which I've now done three times.For now, I was able to change to pattern unlock.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife turned her Galaxy S5 on yesterday, slid her finger across the scanner to open the phone and it came up with the print not recognised message (as it has many times before). This time however, it did not allow her to scan her print again. the screen changed and asked her for a back up password, not a problem as she has done this a fair few times too, it just seemed strange that it only allowed one stroke of the scanner before asking for this. We have tried her back up password many times (and any other password we could think of) but the phone will not unlock, nor will it return to the normal lock screen and allow her to try her print again.
We have logged onto Android device manager and tried the lock screen hack (to obtain another password) but it just tells us that the screen is already locked so another password is not necessary.
I've recently had my phone reset to factory settings. I've gone through and installed all my apps etc back on to it and updated the software to the current build (all stock, and not rooted).
I have had 2 issues with it, the first being not being notified of emails from the gmail app - sync was ticked, as were the relevant labels...still didn't get any notifications through. I read somewhere that if downloaded the gear app (for smart watches) it would resolve it - it has seemed to, even uninstalled the app and I'm still receiving notifications.
The 2nd issue is around the fingerprint lock. If i leave my phone to time out, the fingerprint scanner lock works as it should do. If I lock the phone with the power button, it bypasses the fingerprint scanner and only locks it with a swipe.
Before updating / factory reset it worked as it should do.
When I try to access my phone the only option is a keyboard and not a finger swipe panel. I put in my alternate password many times then get error saying cannot verify your finger print wait 30 secs try again
