Eseries / Communicators :: Maps And Roaming Data Cost?
Mar 21, 2011
How can I avoid roaming data cost when using Nokia E7 maps abroad?Isn't it possible to give the device a rough location to speed up the satellite fix and avoid the data traffic altogether?
i want to know how can i disable All Data transfer and Data roaming on my E72 when i change of country ?on my old blackberry , i had the option : Data disable : yes/no so i check on user manuel that i can use Single mode on network parameter and put it only in GSM . But when i try to use the web or ovi the system ask my to connect my internet and it's work , but i'm always in GSM mode , so i suppose that GSM mode cannot the good option for disable ALL DATA TRAFFIC.
I was traveling in Germany and Italy, and I made sure to set "Data Services While Roaming" to "Off." However, I still did incur data roaming charges. They are really small-- like 15KB/day, but it's nonetheless annoying that my Blackberry Bold 9700 is using data even though I turned it off. I use AT&T. Does anyone know why?
I think i know that Nokia Maps was renamed a Ovi Maps, but then I have these two softwares installed seperately in my E72. I mean I got a Nokia Maps (6MB) and then a Ovi Maps (8MB) seperately installed on my device.
Now do I require both of them or may be just ovi can suffice?
I am a proud owner of a Nokia 5800 and I am trying to understand the way navigation works. Ik have a question about using Nokia Maps. The question is about the costs. I can find 4 options of positioning:
- Assisted GPS - Integrated GPS - Bluetooth GPS - based on network I don't use Bluetooth GPS. I have checked Integrated GPS. Because I do not have a data subscription I would like my navigation to be completely free. I know that Assisted GPS does uses data. What I am not able to find on the internet is whether the option "based on network" is free of charges or not.
I've had the phone with me for 1.5 years, and when I bought it, I deleted the maps. But now I need them, how do i get them back? Do I need to use nokia map loader?
Downloaded latest Anna update (025.007) and after that downloaded Nokia Maps 3.08. After installation Maps gives an error message sayin "Device does not support this function" or something similar...
my E6 is back from Nokia Care, after hard reset I was trying to install Skype, latest OVI Maps and other applications from Ovi Store but I can't find them! About 1 month ago they were available from Ovi store for E6 and I installed them! What happened?
When trying to upload new Ovi maps, I get a message that my memory card is full. Checking memory card properties (on the computer) shows enough space and OVI reports:
Your device's memory card is full. free some memory. Amount of memory required: 648 MB, amount of memory currently available: 817 MB.
I updated my OVI Suite software (to 3.0.0.284) and the software on my E52 (to 052.003). I first tried to upload one map and it reported full memory. Then I tried to update existing maps and got the message above. Then I deleted ALL maps and tried to upload ONE map and again there was not enough memory..
How am I supposed to report an error, when my "more+" menu does not appear? I have the latest version. I have unistalled and installed Ovi maps milion times and that menu does not appear. And the interesting is that Before I had that menu. Don't know how it dissapeared with no reason.
I have only 228Mb of 1.86Gb (10%) free on my memory card. The "cities" folder alone contains 1.05Gb (over half of the available memory). This seems to be a ridiculous amount of memory to be consumed by just one application. I read in another topic that someone was getting "memory full" error messages when trying to download Ovi Maps, and the solution was to delete the "cities" folder prior to downloading /t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/Not-able-to-download-OVI-maps/m-p/883467#M83039 . Should I also delete the "cities" folder
I borrowed a friend's E52 for a while and transferred my contacts, and it was great to have the option to simply click on Show in maps to navigate to their door. But that option is not in the Contacts app on the E66. Surely it could be easily included in a firmware update but it wasn't in the last one - will it be in the next one?
Been using my E71 for sometime now and the gps has always worked fine with the voice indications. All of sudden, the voice is no longer there ? I've updated the phone's software to the latest version and also Nokia Maps but no luck. Is there a particular way of getting my voice back ?
My E72 has Ovi Maps 3.03 (246) installed (I think this was the release last January).A few days ago, while checking the SW Update on my E72, it notified me of a new Important update - Ovi Maps 3.3. I looked at the "View Details" and notice that this is 3.03 (316), so the version number appears to be an update over the previous 3.03 (246) version.I tried installing it (several times) from the cellphone but it always ends up with "Update failed".Searching around the Internet, I notice that 3.03 (316) seems to be an updated version for the Nokia N86 (previously, this cellphone wasn't officially supported by 3.03 (246)).
Recently I updated my phone's software to 510.21.010, after which my Nokia maps is not working. When I open Nokia Maps application, it shows the message " download latest version from 'nokia/maps' ", when I checked the site, Maps for E63 is not available.
Going on a cruise next week that has GSM roaming on it. I plan to leave the phone off unless I need to check in with someone in US.I know that the voice rate will be $4.99 per minute, but how do I turn off the data portion of the phone to not rack up crazy roaming data charges. I do have unlimited international email but suspect the cruise ship does not count.
I have data roaming disabled but my phone (Nexus 5) is still using data when I'm roaming. The only way I've found to prevent this is to turn off cellular data entirely. Why this is happening? What I want is for my phone to use data when on my carrier's network but not when roaming.
I'm selling my E63 and so want to clear all my personal data. Removed the memory card and SIM. Done "Restore factory settings" on the phone menu. Done *#7370#. But still when I go into the phone search function, I can find the headers and email addresses of all my old emails that were on there! How do I purge the search results or just properly get rid of ALL my data on the phone?
I have E63 which I bought & used in Australia (vodafone) for calls and internet there.phone is unlocked and have been using it in holland (telfort) for calls for the last 6 months.subsrcibed internet last week through provider. had several contacts with customerservice and put in all the right settings. now internet works on other phone, but on my Nokia E63 it says "Packet data: packet data connection not available"
I have lost my contact data while i was transfering to another device through sync, i am using 6120classic and E72. unfortunately it is lost from botht the devices.
I am using E52 and I have installed Whatsapp Messenger. It uses my packet data connection and I am rob off my credit. The only way I know to stop this is to uninstall Whatsapp. Is there any way or an app on OviStore which can enable/disable my packet data connection as per my wish.
I would like to share my View about E6 smartphone!1Really a Great Design and OS Design rom Nokia.Actually whenever i connect to WIFI and GPRS when i connect first time its connecting and i can use ,After i disconnect and if i try to reconnect both WIFI and GPRS not connecting ,Such that when i restart once and connect its connecting so whenever i need to connect WIFI and GPRS for 2nd time i need to restart my mobile.
I have an E6. I have configured a GMail and Yahoo email accounts but have configured it to retrieve only at 8am. So data will be used only during that time or whenever a known internet accessing application is running. This was for around 3 months. As soon as I exit say Opera, the data connection would be closed. But for the past 2 weeks, the data connection refuses to terminate. Even when I manually terminate by going into Connections, it gets reconnected automatically. This behaviour appears suspiciously like a virus / spyware running hidden because task manager shows no running application other than F-Secure which is disabled except for theft protection. How to find out if there is any hidden process accessing the internet? How to know which applications run at startup?
