View 1 RepliesNow that unlimited data is a thing of the past this might be a concern I've not seen discussed, do the apps that are now running in background like Facebook twitter etc stay connected to the 3g signal to get updates if so will that now mean we will have higher data usage than we did before? Or do they just start using data when they are opened as the main app being viewed?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
Hi, I'm having a problem accessing the market through my phone (xperia x8), I have the data traffic turned on, should I have anything else on or off or what?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust wondering. Is there any message imbedded that says "This is the max # of apps you can have running".
View 21 Replies View RelatedI'm an avid app-hopper.. on my 32Gb 3GS, I have a tendency to hop from app to app, into safari, then into another app etc. What I'm finding is that after doing this, some titles (usually games such as Airport Mania and Monopoly) start running really slugglishly (and Monopoly starts complaining that it's running out of memory) until I open the taskbar and start closing everything there.
I may have missed it but is there any way to tell which apps are 'running' in the background and which aren;t - or do we assume that all apps in the taskbar are doing so? (although when I have restarted an app from the taskbar, most load up again from scratch).
So I'm just wondering if there's a way to disable this feature so that when I press the Home button, I know the app is actually closing properly?
Iphone 4: Is there a way to turn certain apps off once you exit out of the app instead of double tapping the home screen button every time you open an app to turn it off?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe background feature single-handedly killed every other smart phone on the market. I realize other phones can run apps in the background, but Apple did it properly.
To see one app roll off screen to the left as another quickly rolls on from the right is just simply pleasing to watch. App switching on the 3GS is hitch free, I'm excited to see how well my iPhone 4 will do with twice the RAM.
so is there a way to "close" and app instead of it "minimizing" in the background I know you can double tap home, hold an icon, and then close it that way" but this is quite the hastle doing this every time i exit an app..and im sure the more apps you have in your "minimize tray" the faster your battery drains... correct?
have you guys found any way to close an app with out it minimizing? or even an magic "remove all" button to close all open apps...
im on iphone 3gs os4
I was told that apps could be "turned off" in the iphone, which saves on battery life and removes the apps from the main screen, placing them in a scrollable line at the bottom.

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1
My home button is very tempermental. Took it into the store and they showed me how to turn off apps running in background and that helped for a while. Now I have to touch it upwards of 20 times to get it to work.

Are there any reliable apps for allowing background running of apps on a 3gs 3.1.3 jailbroken with spirit? I've seen a couple mentioned via google but they seemed to have disasterous concequenses for some.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI hope this hasn't already been asked. I have a limited amount of data on my plan, therefore do not want my apps to be using data all the time. For example, I do not want facebook to check for notifications every 30 seconds, but I would like to be able to manually click on the facebook app and check my notifications. I am finding it rather annoying to have to turn my data off all the time, then turn it on when I want to use an app.Other phones I have had gave me the option to "disable background data", can I do this on the BB Bold 9900?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhere I can turn this setting off. It's the symbol of a leaf in the top left corner in the notification bar of the included screen shot. It says background data restricted tap to disable. This just started showing up and I can't figure where the setting can be found.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife has an LG G4 and the Portable Wifi hotspot is eating up our data.
I check all the hotspot settings and they are turned off and yet in data manager it shows that it has used almost 4 gigs of background data. On top of her normal usage.
I need to know how to stop this because this has put us close to our limit.
My wife and I have an LG G4. For some reason her Data Manager shows that the portable wifi hotspot has used 3.5gigs of background data but when I look at the settings for the hotspot everything is off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a new Android user and I love my phone but some apps like Amazon (which I use on a regular basis) keep reopening in the background after I close them. Same going with Facebook and Facebook messenger. This is after I do a force close etc. I am using the Stock version of android due to warranty reasons. How to change this?
View 4 Replies View Related950 running 10586.107. Where do I find the setting to restrict background data while roaming. I can't seem to find it anywhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI set up my phone yesterday and within a short period of time my free 500mb monthly data was gone and then my credit was going down being charged for any more data usage. I would like to figure this out soon or I'll be charged £1 per day for any data I use or use unknowingly.
I would like to restrict background data but when I select 'Restrict background data', within seconds I get a notification saying
"Background data restricted. Touch to remove restriction" ...
And an exclamation mark icon remains at the top left of my screen. Is this normal? Is there a way to clear the notification and the exclamation mark while also keeping 'Restrict background data' on? The only way I can clear the notification and get rid of the exclamation mark at the top of my screen is by tapping on the notification but then background data is no longer restricted. I cannot swipe the notification away and the clear all is not there either.
I created a smart action that disables data sync when the Maxx is not on a charger. It is an attempt to solve the problem of sporadic massive battery drain. I don't think background apps are running when this occurs, but anyway I want to know if a successful sync can take place while it is enabled only when plugged in to a charger.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time my phone wakes up, I receive an error message that the background data is restricted. What sort of things should I be looking for to stop this from happening? Right now I have a smart action running called "Display" that enables the cellular data to run when the screen turns on. With this smart action the notification disappears within 3 seconds. Obviously a better solution would be to keep the alert from appearing at all.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve just got a 5230 and im really pleased with it.One thing I am finding is that when I use something like the Web, or I access settings, it leaves the little icon which says its running even when I exit back to the home screen.I thought they would stop running after some time, so I left it over night, but this morning they still have the little icon next to them. How do I stop them running?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOk so I am an ex android user, so this is a question is coming from an ex user. Anyways... ever morning before I start my day, I go in and close all the running app in the background one by one. Is there a way to not have to close them down one by one?
View 9 Replies View RelatedYou know how when you open an application, and just press the hangup / power key, it exits the application from the screen but it still keeps running in the background memory. I have noticed that such applications in the memory can drain the battery real quick. I was wondering if anyway on the phone you can check which applications are currently running in the background memory? If i can find that out, I can just exit all the apps and save my battery life. Let me know if anyone knows a way to do so.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to disable data for an application via the "restrict background data" option inside the data useage settings. However, even after selecting that, the app is still able to communicate over the wireless network.
Is this something that the app has to honor, vs it being forcibly put into place?
The app is "Slacker Radio" I want it to use content I cached instead of using data to pull down songs.
