View 21 RepliesI'm an avid app-hopper.. on my 32Gb 3GS, I have a tendency to hop from app to app, into safari, then into another app etc. What I'm finding is that after doing this, some titles (usually games such as Airport Mania and Monopoly) start running really slugglishly (and Monopoly starts complaining that it's running out of memory) until I open the taskbar and start closing everything there.
I may have missed it but is there any way to tell which apps are 'running' in the background and which aren;t - or do we assume that all apps in the taskbar are doing so? (although when I have restarted an app from the taskbar, most load up again from scratch).
So I'm just wondering if there's a way to disable this feature so that when I press the Home button, I know the app is actually closing properly?
Iphone 4: Is there a way to turn certain apps off once you exit out of the app instead of double tapping the home screen button every time you open an app to turn it off?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe background feature single-handedly killed every other smart phone on the market. I realize other phones can run apps in the background, but Apple did it properly.
To see one app roll off screen to the left as another quickly rolls on from the right is just simply pleasing to watch. App switching on the 3GS is hitch free, I'm excited to see how well my iPhone 4 will do with twice the RAM.
so is there a way to "close" and app instead of it "minimizing" in the background I know you can double tap home, hold an icon, and then close it that way" but this is quite the hastle doing this every time i exit an app..and im sure the more apps you have in your "minimize tray" the faster your battery drains... correct?
have you guys found any way to close an app with out it minimizing? or even an magic "remove all" button to close all open apps...
im on iphone 3gs os4
I was told that apps could be "turned off" in the iphone, which saves on battery life and removes the apps from the main screen, placing them in a scrollable line at the bottom.

iPhone 3GS, iOS 5.1
My home button is very tempermental. Took it into the store and they showed me how to turn off apps running in background and that helped for a while. Now I have to touch it upwards of 20 times to get it to work.

Now that unlimited data is a thing of the past this might be a concern I've not seen discussed, do the apps that are now running in background like Facebook twitter etc stay connected to the 3g signal to get updates if so will that now mean we will have higher data usage than we did before? Or do they just start using data when they are opened as the main app being viewed?

View 4 Replies View RelatedOk so I am an ex android user, so this is a question is coming from an ex user. Anyways... ever morning before I start my day, I go in and close all the running app in the background one by one. Is there a way to not have to close them down one by one?
View 9 Replies View RelatedYou know how when you open an application, and just press the hangup / power key, it exits the application from the screen but it still keeps running in the background memory. I have noticed that such applications in the memory can drain the battery real quick. I was wondering if anyway on the phone you can check which applications are currently running in the background memory? If i can find that out, I can just exit all the apps and save my battery life. Let me know if anyone knows a way to do so.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Lollipop there used to be a section under apps in the settings where you could see what all was currently running in the background. It looks like in Marshmallow this feature has been removed or moved to a different location in the settings. Where it moved to and how to find this in the settings?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Advanced Task Killer which I'm finding really useful. I have an ignore list set and it kills the apps that aren't being used regularly. However, I'm wondering why these apps keep restarting again. The sort of things that keep restarting are Gallery, Messaging, Yahoo! Messenger, Email, Skype, Maps, etc. I'm sure that I'm signed out on all of these apps and have the settings set such that they shouldn't keep restarting/synching. Are there any apps similar to 'msconfig' in Windows where you can tick which things you want to start up and what you don't?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use Stitcher, the FM Radio and Mediafly a lot. On the X these would always stay active when surfing the web, playing most games, etc. They now last about 2 minutes before something is killing there processes. I am not using a task killer. It seems to be more of a problem when the X2 is docked.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that when I swipe from the camera to the gallery app, the phone would sometimes kill background apps that should be kept running. Things such as Tasker, my live wallpaper (Muzei/3D Image) and my Battery Reborn notification shade all seem to go once I return to the home screen.

Gallery opens but we cannot tap on images, same thing with thumbnail image in the camera sometimes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
My moto x 2014 with Lollipop is constantly redrawing the home screen and closes background apps very quickly. I tried to use runtastic yesterday and it kept closing when ever I put it to the background. I check the ram and usually have 600mb free. Is there a way to get it to use all that ram?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
