Nexus 5 non-rooted
In setting/battery there are several apps shown. Are these the apps running in the background and consuming battery? If NOT how could I find out what apps are running in the b/g?
I stopped some of these apps (not the ones for android services) using "Force stop" but they were still appears here. So how could I stop them to save battery?
In Lollipop there used to be a section under apps in the settings where you could see what all was currently running in the background. It looks like in Marshmallow this feature has been removed or moved to a different location in the settings. Where it moved to and how to find this in the settings?

I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
I upgraded to Marshmallow over the weekend and the "close all" button is not included in Marshmallow. When I have a list of apps open I need to close them one by one. Is it not possible to close all open apps in one go?
View 6 Replies View RelatedFinally got around to sticking my SIM card into my 6P and decided to leave it off the charger over night to see how much battery percentage it would take away. I fell asleep with the battery at 55% and awoke with it around 30%. Looking at the battery usage, cell standby is consuming more of the battery than anything else. I've seen this bug in previous versions of Android, but have not heard anything about it with 6.0. Is my phone bad?
I'm on Verizon if that matters at all.
Iphone 4: Is there a way to turn certain apps off once you exit out of the app instead of double tapping the home screen button every time you open an app to turn it off?

View 9 Replies View RelatedYou know how when you open an application, and just press the hangup / power key, it exits the application from the screen but it still keeps running in the background memory. I have noticed that such applications in the memory can drain the battery real quick. I was wondering if anyway on the phone you can check which applications are currently running in the background memory? If i can find that out, I can just exit all the apps and save my battery life. Let me know if anyone knows a way to do so.

My home button is very tempermental. Took it into the store and they showed me how to turn off apps running in background and that helped for a while. Now I have to touch it upwards of 20 times to get it to work.

I'm on my second iPhone 4, since my first one had the yellow screen blobs. The battery was great on my first one, but not so good on this one. I restored the same backup, and even did a settings reset to get rid of anything that may cause an issue.
What's weird is that when I check the usage in Settings > Usage, the standby is correct but the usage is creaping up without me actually using the phone. For example, went to bed last night and usage was around 3 hours and battery level 55%. This morning, it was 3.5 hours and battery was down to 47%. I'd even restarted the phone before going to bed so that nothing was running in the background.
I'm just DFU restoring my phone to see if that helps. And I might delete and re-add my Google Apps Exchange accounts incase there is something going on there.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am using Advanced Task Killer which I'm finding really useful. I have an ignore list set and it kills the apps that aren't being used regularly. However, I'm wondering why these apps keep restarting again. The sort of things that keep restarting are Gallery, Messaging, Yahoo! Messenger, Email, Skype, Maps, etc. I'm sure that I'm signed out on all of these apps and have the settings set such that they shouldn't keep restarting/synching. Are there any apps similar to 'msconfig' in Windows where you can tick which things you want to start up and what you don't?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI usually watch Netflix in bed then go to sleep. In the last week, I occasionally wake up to find my batter drained (down 80+%) overnight. According to GSAM, the culprit is Android Core Apps. Not sure what that is. I thought maybe Netflix was still downloading, but that's not Android Core Apps.
This is Nexus 6 on 5.1.1 using mobile radio only (no wifi).
I'm running Cataclysm ROM (the Sept. 10 beta), Franco kernel, and I'm rooted and use Xposed. I receive this error when I try to add a card in Android Pay: "Android Pay cannot be used: Google is unable to verify that your device of the software running on it is Android compatible". I tried disabling root entirely and using RootCloak (Xposed) to hide root from Android Pay and Google Wallet, but I still can't use Pay. Wallet still works as it always has.

I thought it might just be a glitch that Google is trying to fix but its been this way for a month. I've tried uninstalling YouTube I've wiped everything I could and its still like this. P
View 3 Replies View RelatedEver since Tuesday morning on 10/28 Google Search app has been crashing repeatedly over and over again in the background. I did not think much of it first few times, but then yesterday and today it started becoming more frequent. It seems to be happening almost every hour.
So I started doing some trouble shooting and caught the app running at over 500 MB of RAM!! Then of course it shortly after crashed. I have attached a screen shot of that, in addition to battery stats from overnight when I was sleeping, so everyone can see how often it is occurring as well. I have reported at least 8 of the crashes to the Google report option that comes up.
So far I have tried restarting my phone multiple times, and have tried clearing the cache on the Google Search app. Still has made absolutely no difference. Would like to try to avoid resetting the phone if possible.

so is there a way to "close" and app instead of it "minimizing" in the background I know you can double tap home, hold an icon, and then close it that way" but this is quite the hastle doing this every time i exit an app..and im sure the more apps you have in your "minimize tray" the faster your battery drains... correct?
have you guys found any way to close an app with out it minimizing? or even an magic "remove all" button to close all open apps...

View 20 Replies View RelatedThe number one thing that frustrates me about most Internet Browsers is the inability to change the settings to have a black webpage background with white letters. White backgrounds are so hurtful on the eyes, especially with a big screen device like the N6. It's additionally a source of bigger battery drain to have bright white pages. Now, for those who remember, changing this used to be possible with the stock "Internet Browser" that came on the Android devices.
I currently use "UC Browser" due to it's ability to change the webpage background to a dark screen with Sepia-colored letters.
Are there any other Browsers that do this or present this ability? And I'm not talking about dimming the entire screen in a poorly implemented "Night Mode" (a correctly implemented one would completely switch the text/background without affecting images).
I'm constantly re-evaluating what I use and would love to have alternatives.
An additional bonus is the VERY strong built-in ad-blocking capabilities of "UC Browser". It completely blocks all injected ads. Go to AndroidCentral using Chrome and you'll see an injected box by "GoogleAdServices" pop-up at the bottom of your screen. The same page with "UC Browser" (with ad-blocking activated) shows nothing but the webpage. I like to have Ads blocked to save bandwidth/data usage, so that's an important feature. What Browsers (or specific extension) blocks these types of Ads (like the ones from Google)? I like Ghostery Browser for this but you can't export Bookmarks.
Yesterday, My battery indicator has a four level bars, I left my phone for 5 hours & when I returned to it I found it turned off !!I turned it on again & I found that the battery indicator has one level bar only !!This situation has happens to me 3 times before.I note that I did not open any applications in background or camera .. etc.

I'm going through the Storage sections under Settings, picking and choosing what I want to keep and discard. There's a number of items appearing in Downloads that I want to move to my PC, but I can't find the files and the only commands available are Open, Delete and Share.How do I locate the items so can copy them?My phone is not rooted and is running Lollipop 5.1.1.
