The feature to enable background play is gone in the setting menu. I don't know why I've tried everything except reformatting my phone. It's starting to get annoying. I thought it might just be a glitch that Google is trying to fix but its been this way for a month. I've tried uninstalling YouTube I've wiped everything I could and its still like this. P

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
Whenever I open Youtube all hat shows up is the loading circle and nothing else will happen. When I open the Google Play Store the background just shows white and nothing else. This has been happening for the last couple days. I have tried force stopping both of them and tried everything to try getting them to work.

My issue is, after the App & OS updated, my saved offline videos have just recently gone into playing the next video automatically. So for instance, if I want to fall asleep at night watching a single 45 minute video, the whole darn list will play, and sooner or later, it gets to that head banging music video, and I wake up.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI seem to have developed a strange problem since the update to 5.1.1 a couple of days ago. When I connect to my Edge via bluetooth, and use Google Play Music, there is a beep in the background and the music stutters and then continue playing, then about 30 seconds later it happens again...it coninues for about 10 to 15 minutes then the problem disappeared entirely. I don't believe it is entirely Google Play Music because I paused Google Play Music and the beeping continued in the background. ......perhaps the bluetooth connection? I haven't been able to reproduce the error but it has happened twice.

View 2 Replies View RelatedEver since Tuesday morning on 10/28 Google Search app has been crashing repeatedly over and over again in the background. I did not think much of it first few times, but then yesterday and today it started becoming more frequent. It seems to be happening almost every hour.
So I started doing some trouble shooting and caught the app running at over 500 MB of RAM!! Then of course it shortly after crashed. I have attached a screen shot of that, in addition to battery stats from overnight when I was sleeping, so everyone can see how often it is occurring as well. I have reported at least 8 of the crashes to the Google report option that comes up.
So far I have tried restarting my phone multiple times, and have tried clearing the cache on the Google Search app. Still has made absolutely no difference. Would like to try to avoid resetting the phone if possible.

In setting/battery there are several apps shown. Are these the apps running in the background and consuming battery? If NOT how could I find out what apps are running in the b/g?
I stopped some of these apps (not the ones for android services) using "Force stop" but they were still appears here. So how could I stop them to save battery?
Is there some youtube background app for the Galaxy S6? PVSTAR+ PRO vas amazing app.. But it doesn't work anymore.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe number one thing that frustrates me about most Internet Browsers is the inability to change the settings to have a black webpage background with white letters. White backgrounds are so hurtful on the eyes, especially with a big screen device like the N6. It's additionally a source of bigger battery drain to have bright white pages. Now, for those who remember, changing this used to be possible with the stock "Internet Browser" that came on the Android devices.
I currently use "UC Browser" due to it's ability to change the webpage background to a dark screen with Sepia-colored letters.
Are there any other Browsers that do this or present this ability? And I'm not talking about dimming the entire screen in a poorly implemented "Night Mode" (a correctly implemented one would completely switch the text/background without affecting images).
I'm constantly re-evaluating what I use and would love to have alternatives.
An additional bonus is the VERY strong built-in ad-blocking capabilities of "UC Browser". It completely blocks all injected ads. Go to AndroidCentral using Chrome and you'll see an injected box by "GoogleAdServices" pop-up at the bottom of your screen. The same page with "UC Browser" (with ad-blocking activated) shows nothing but the webpage. I like to have Ads blocked to save bandwidth/data usage, so that's an important feature. What Browsers (or specific extension) blocks these types of Ads (like the ones from Google)? I like Ghostery Browser for this but you can't export Bookmarks.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
Ever since the android 6 update I have noticed that Google play services is always top of my battery drain stats.
Also the mobile radio active figure is always going up and up!
I do have a android wear device synced but I always have and never noticed this is lollipop.
What could be causing this? I don't have Google now or location services on ...
Noticed that Google Play Services battery optimization is grayed out and I can't turn in on.

I bought a song from the play store the other day only to find that Google Play Music will no longer play any music on my Nexus 5. I do have PowerAmp set as my default player (I think) and I cleared the GPM app cache. It should work but it doesn't play anything at all, none of my other music either.

I looked in the settings all over the phone how to make it to continue playing but couldn't find anything. Also is there a way to pull volume stop/play control on the lock screen?. however is that the phone does not appear in my device listing in the Play Store when I access it on a computer, or on Android Device Manager when I access it from a computer or from the phone itself! I can access the Play Store just fine from the phone, but cannot install apps from a computer. From the Play Store or ADM I can see my Nexus 7 and my old phone, but not the Nexus 5. The phone is set up with the same Google account as the other devices.
I cannot download anything on my Nexus 5 from the play store at the moment. When I press download it gets stuck at 'installing...' forever. It started with the facebook app updating, forcing me to have to download the messenger app (I had used a workaround to avoid having to install it before), but when that wasn't installing I decided there had to be something wrong with facebook. I UN-installed Facebook, but now Facebook app gets stuck as well. Then I tried to find a replacement app, Fast for Facebook, but the story is the same.

Since the 5.0 update, everything has been awesome. Only issue I have run into, is that sometimes out of no where my phone will pause Play Music with out me touching my phone. For example, I listen to Play Music at night and its setup on either a loop or just one of the sleep radio stations. But after one or two songs or even twice in one song, it will pause.
