Now that unlimited data is a thing of the past this might be a concern I've not seen discussed, do the apps that are now running in background like Facebook twitter etc stay connected to the 3g signal to get updates if so will that now mean we will have higher data usage than we did before? Or do they just start using data when they are opened as the main app being viewed?
View 6 RepliesI have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
View 3 Replies View Relatedso is there a way to "close" and app instead of it "minimizing" in the background I know you can double tap home, hold an icon, and then close it that way" but this is quite the hastle doing this every time i exit an app..and im sure the more apps you have in your "minimize tray" the faster your battery drains... correct?
have you guys found any way to close an app with out it minimizing? or even an magic "remove all" button to close all open apps...

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I believe this is a built-in feature in Android (or at least available with an app, or maybe from rooting, I can't recall from my Nexus days)...But is there an iphone app that can track data usage down to which app (or process) was using the data? My iphone is hemorrhaging data overnight, and I need to find out what is causing it...

After updating IOS, nightmare started, the phone getting hot in normal usage even warm while i put on sleep mode. Is this normal for brand new iphone 4s which battery only support up to 6 hours standby with minimum usage?

I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
My husband and I both have the iPhone 3GS. My husband's phone however will count on the phones data usage 20mb over night while it is charging and on our wifi. it is counting this towards his 3g usage and not wifi. We have already had APPLE reset everything at the store. it is still doing it. so he has to turn off all cellualar data usage at night or it keeps racking up the usage even though it is on our wifi. I plug my phone in at night as well and mine is not doing this

Since iOS 5.0.1 I never had. Artery problem. But after recent upgrade to 5.1.1 I found that while using usual apps, including very simple like card game, my iPhone became very, uncomfortable hot near sim slot location. I was tried to reinstall sim card several times - no effect. Battery drain now terrible in active mode, about 1 percent per one or couple of minutes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm on my second iPhone 4, since my first one had the yellow screen blobs. The battery was great on my first one, but not so good on this one. I restored the same backup, and even did a settings reset to get rid of anything that may cause an issue.
What's weird is that when I check the usage in Settings > Usage, the standby is correct but the usage is creaping up without me actually using the phone. For example, went to bed last night and usage was around 3 hours and battery level 55%. This morning, it was 3.5 hours and battery was down to 47%. I'd even restarted the phone before going to bed so that nothing was running in the background.
I'm just DFU restoring my phone to see if that helps. And I might delete and re-add my Google Apps Exchange accounts incase there is something going on there.
For the past couple of days I've been having some strange battery problems. I can have my phone on and the battery is at 100%. Then I'll shut it off and turn it back on a few hours later and my battery would drop a significant percentage like 30% or so. It doesn't just do this when the phone is fully charged it will do it when the battery is at any percentage.

1. I beejive im every work day for at least 2 hours on edge(don't tell my boss) but it suprisingly only comes out to only about 4mbs per day (if i used 3g would the data consumption be higher?)
2. I maybe use slingplayer 1 day a month on 3g (sad) about 10mbs i think
3. I grab email manually by opening up the mail app maybe twice a day max.
Do you think i should switch asap? or is it best recommended to view iphone 4 data usage first in case i upload 720p video (which i doubt they will let you do)

All of my other apps are using negligible amounts of data.What is the "Restore data" app, and how do I tell it to stop using so much data?
One additional bit of info: 2/23 was also the date that the Microsoft Health app updated. I use a MS Band. It seems like there may have been some type of update pending on the band. When I called Verizon's tech support, they said that the pending update might have something to do with the massive data usage. We completed the update to the Band, and they said to give it another day to see if the data usage continues. What this "Restore data" app is, it doesn't sound like it has anything to do with the Band.
As as august 18th I have sent:1.5GB recieved:14.7GB average that out over 10 months that is roughly: 1.6GB
So I am way over the new data caps that o2 has introduced.

View 21 Replies View RelatedI had my original 2G iPhone for three years before updating to the iPhone 4. During that three years, I only used about 4 GB of cellular data, so I thought the whole "no more unlimited data" business was blown out of proportion.
Of course, with my old iPhone, I didn't have 3G, so I didn't stream a lot over the cellular network. I decided to try streaming music in my car for a few days on my one-hour-each-way commute to work and back.
I used it for about a week, before switching back to my iPod. I just checked my data usage, and in the three weeks or so that I've had my new iPhone, I have used 4 GB of data already!
That's right, in three weeks, I used the data that I took three years to use on my old iPhone! My data usage multiplied by 52!
That's crazy! Streaming certainly does make a huge difference.
How much data do you use? I just thought I would pose the question.

However, in my settings it says I have used 23.5mb + 168mb, and in the Your Orange app it says I have used 305mb! Quite a big difference

for some reason I went over my data usage limit and noticed two large data downloads/uploads (dont know which) that occurred overnight while I was not using my phone. I am currently with Vodafone in the uk and about 6 months ago I recieved a text message saying I was close to my data limit of 750mb and that they would provide me with an extra 250mb charged at £5 per shot. I downloaded a data usage app to monitor my usage and it was climbing at a ludicrous rate. As imaginable when I contacted Vodafone to inform them of the issue they didn't want to know and were not the slightest bit interested in the problem at all. I decided to return the phone to apple who after literally 5 minutes of using the phone said that there was defiantly and issue with the handset and that due to it still being under warrenty they would replace it free of charge.
Now this problem seems to have reoccurred where as I very nearly went over my limit last month I put this down to playing draw something through 3G and susiquently deleted the app. I decided to reset my data usage on the iPhone I have this morning already used 20mb + in just under an hour. It isn't as through it climbs when not being used it just seems to use loads or recieved data when I'm surfing the net.
