LG G4 :: Portable WiFi Hotspot Using Background Data
Dec 14, 2015
My wife has an LG G4 and the Portable Wifi hotspot is eating up our data.
I check all the hotspot settings and they are turned off and yet in data manager it shows that it has used almost 4 gigs of background data. On top of her normal usage.
I need to know how to stop this because this has put us close to our limit.
My wife and I have an LG G4. For some reason her Data Manager shows that the portable wifi hotspot has used 3.5gigs of background data but when I look at the settings for the hotspot everything is off.
I have the iPhone 4 3G and also have a Kindle Touch. Can I set the phone to do a portable hotspot so I can use my Kindle without having to go to a Wi-Fi hotspot place?
i just bought xperia z2 couple of weeks a go. After using wifi and mobile data without problem in Indonesia, now im having problem when using it in korea. At first it was okay, then i used it as portable hotspot without problem. Now thw wifi and portable hotspot cannot turn on at all. Its not on then off, it just like loading forever. And i notice my wifi mac address is unavailable.
My issue may not be specific to the Moto X 2014, but it's the phone I'm using. I'm able to tether my Moto X to my Dell laptop and use the internet, no problem.
But when I turn on the portable wi-fi hotspot, give it a network name, set security to WPA2 PSK, broadcast channel (either 2.4 or 5 GHz) and give it a password (at least 8 characters), it doesn't work. My laptop connects, but there's no internet data.
Given that I'm able to share my mobile phone data plan with my laptop via a tether, I'm curious as hell to know why the hotspot feature isn't work.
I am trying to use my phone as a wifi hotspot but when I go into 'settings' then 'wireless and network' I have no option for tething adn portable hotspot. I have tried downloading the most up to date software and have even tried re-enstalling the phone as it said the software is all up to date.
I have a xperia mini pro with data plan with the version 2.3 work properly on both Wi-Fi hotspot as USB, now i perform the upgrade to 4.0.4 compilation 4.1.B.0.431 ice cream, but when i active wifi network it does not allow navigation, appears on the PC without internet connection, surfing the cellular data plan works normal but for the pc does not allow navigation as wifi or usb modem.
I have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way that I can turn off background data/automatic syncing in all of my apps when I'm connected to Wi-Fi. Besides going in to each app and turning off the syncing.
The reason for this is that I'm going to be going on a cruise and the Wi-Fi on the ship is not exactly cheap, so I'd like not to go through a lot of data every time I connect to it because all of my apps decide that they are going to connect.
I have a Nexus 5 running 6.0.
I've read about the "Metered Wi-Fi network" settings, but it doesn't say exactly what it does - it mainly talks about restricting background data on a mobile network, and setting data limits on a mobile network, even though it's supposed to be about Metered Wi-Fi networks.
I was always using on other phones with Android 2.2 FroYo that 3G mobile hotspot feature, which was included right in the Android system under Wireless Networks settings. Now in Defy there is no option like that under settings in FroYo. Defy includes own app called 3G Mobile Hotspot, which should work like that option for creating mobile WiFi hotspots in other Android phones. But here is the problem. On my older phone with Android 2.2 I could create 3G WiFi hotspot wherever I needed and it worked. But now, with Defy, when I use that application 3G Mobile Hotspot, it writes me error when creating WiFi hotspot "Cannot set up data link, please contact your service provider" I suppose it is something with my carrier (Vodafone_CZ), but when I used 3G WiFi hotspots on older phones (which had that feature included right in Android settings menu) it worked without problems and I a used mobile phone for 3G internet sharing with my laptop. Now I remember, that I have deleted some DUN profile under APN Internet profiles, could it be that problem, that 3G Mobile Hotspot app is not working?how to create WiFi hotspot on my Defy for example with some other app?Or if not, how can I use Internet Tethering in Defy Mobile Networks menu via Bluetooth (my laptot has BT). I dont know, what should I set in my laptot to use Defy like BT 3G Internet provider and I dont know, if Internet Tetherig via BT is not charged at my carrier (I know, that the 3G WiFi hotspot feature was not extra charged..) so for that reason I would like to make it working on my Defy.
My ROM: original 34.179.2.MB525.Retail.en.CEE Android 2.2.2
I hope this hasn't already been asked. I have a limited amount of data on my plan, therefore do not want my apps to be using data all the time. For example, I do not want facebook to check for notifications every 30 seconds, but I would like to be able to manually click on the facebook app and check my notifications. I am finding it rather annoying to have to turn my data off all the time, then turn it on when I want to use an app.Other phones I have had gave me the option to "disable background data", can I do this on the BB Bold 9900?
Where I can turn this setting off. It's the symbol of a leaf in the top left corner in the notification bar of the included screen shot. It says background data restricted tap to disable. This just started showing up and I can't figure where the setting can be found.
Now that unlimited data is a thing of the past this might be a concern I've not seen discussed, do the apps that are now running in background like Facebook twitter etc stay connected to the 3g signal to get updates if so will that now mean we will have higher data usage than we did before? Or do they just start using data when they are opened as the main app being viewed?
I set up my phone yesterday and within a short period of time my free 500mb monthly data was gone and then my credit was going down being charged for any more data usage. I would like to figure this out soon or I'll be charged £1 per day for any data I use or use unknowingly.
I would like to restrict background data but when I select 'Restrict background data', within seconds I get a notification saying
"Background data restricted. Touch to remove restriction" ...
And an exclamation mark icon remains at the top left of my screen. Is this normal? Is there a way to clear the notification and the exclamation mark while also keeping 'Restrict background data' on? The only way I can clear the notification and get rid of the exclamation mark at the top of my screen is by tapping on the notification but then background data is no longer restricted. I cannot swipe the notification away and the clear all is not there either.
I created a smart action that disables data sync when the Maxx is not on a charger. It is an attempt to solve the problem of sporadic massive battery drain. I don't think background apps are running when this occurs, but anyway I want to know if a successful sync can take place while it is enabled only when plugged in to a charger.
Every time my phone wakes up, I receive an error message that the background data is restricted. What sort of things should I be looking for to stop this from happening? Right now I have a smart action running called "Display" that enables the cellular data to run when the screen turns on. With this smart action the notification disappears within 3 seconds. Obviously a better solution would be to keep the alert from appearing at all.
I'm trying to disable data for an application via the "restrict background data" option inside the data useage settings. However, even after selecting that, the app is still able to communicate over the wireless network.
Is this something that the app has to honor, vs it being forcibly put into place?
The app is "Slacker Radio" I want it to use content I cached instead of using data to pull down songs.
I have a Mac, I can connect to my Xperia using it's hotspot, but that's where it ends. There is no transfer of data, no Web page will open on the laptop. I'm sure it use to work. I've done searches, tried going through settings on both mobile device and laptop with no dice.
The data usage meter in the system settings did not pick up the usage while in mobile hotspot mode. It missed 2Gb of cloud sync with my ultrabook.
I have searched forums and spoke to a seemingly knowledgeable person at Microsoft store, who told me he had not heard of this problem.
I checked the Windows Feedback app and there are several other reports of the same. Yet, it is not a big trending item in forums. Tracking data when in hotspot should be a primary function.
confirm if the current BB os 7 or the expected to be released 7.1 will have wifi hotspot? I have search through the forum and BB support, but there are conflicting info.
