IPhone :: Suddenly Unable To Use Mail App To Access Gmail Account
Apr 25, 2012Shortly after I got my iPhone 4S, I added my gmail account to the mail app (not the gmail app),so that I could read my email on my phone, and specifically not using the Gmail app, but using the email app, and adding the Gmail account as an Exchange Server so that my Google Contacts would sync to the device. It worked for weeks. Now, suddenly, it says wrong password whenever I try to check my email. I have removed it and added it back. I did not change anything on my email account configuration that would cause this.
Since it happened, though, I have removed the account and re-added it. It seems that it would stop me from adding the account if I were using the wrong password, but it lets me add the account with no problem, and only gives the wrong password message after that, when it tries to begin downloading emails.
I have typed in the password enough times today to make sure that I am typing it in correctly. I have been able to log into my gmail account via the web successfully (proving that I do know my own password). I even downloaded and installed the gmail app and was able to use it to get to my email. But that leaves my phone with zero contacts, because I keep all my contacts in Google Contacts, and the Gmail app doesn't seem to add any contacts to the contacts list on the phone. I need it to work the way it was set up & working before today. I don't know if Apple changed something, if Google changed something, or what. I would think that there would be others using this functionality who may be similarly stuck.
So my question is: How can I access my Gmail account from my iphone and have my google contacts brought into the phone's contact list, and constantly synchronized with Google contacts, like I had going before today? With the addition of iCloud, it gets really confusing really quick. The simple solution that I was using was so nice. I will be sad if it is gone for good...

Oct 28, 2011My Photon 4 G does not sync calendar, contact, Gmail with my company Gmail account. I believe that it just stopped syncing last week and I believe that it was following a Motorola update, but cannot say for sure. Under Data Delivery, both Background Data and Data enabled are checked green. However, this is interesting because Email and corporate sync is grayed out on that screen. When I go to Account, checking the sync options is not possible, but I can do a manual sync. Please note, at one time, these options to sync Contacts, Gmail and Calendar were available. I've pulled the batter. I really do not want to reset to factory default. Suggestions? (Please note this is a company Gmail account, not just regular Gmail.)

Feb 2, 2010I don't know if my thread title makes sense but basically what I would like to know is what are the advantages of downloading the Gmail app vs just setting up a Gmail account through my BIS (Email Settings/Add Account)? My main objective here is wireless contacts sync. I have read a lot of negative feedback regarding Gmail on a BlackBerry but I will not really even be using this for email all to often, although I will from time to time.
What I have done is just added my new Gmail account through the native BlackBerry email setup and then downloaded Google Sync. I downloaded the Gmail app but I didn't really like the UI and I like to have all 3 of my email accounts go into the same folder.

Apr 7, 2012I can access my gmail account via Mail, when over wifi, no problem. When I'm on cellular data, I will sometimes get in, but most of the time I get a message "username/password incorrect." I have verified they are not incorrect. This has been a problem for the last year! I did notice under the Incoming Settings, the IMAP Path Prefix is blank. Should something be there? I do have IMAP enabled under my gmail settings. Here are my Incoming settings: Use SSL: On, Authentication: Password, IMAP Path Prefix: (blank), Server Port: 993

The issue I am having:In my Gmail account settings, I have it set to send mail using only my initials, so that when I send a message to someone they will only see (A J) for example. When sending emails from my browser in gmail, this works fine. If I go to my iPhone, and send a response to an email thread, it will send from my full name. Any emails that I send from my iPhone automatically show my full name. Is there some type of account setting for this? I don't want it to use my full name when I send email from the phone. I have looked everywhere and don't see any setting for this. I have also called Apple support and they have no idea.
