Samsung :: Way To Block Internet To One Of These Phones?
Apr 23, 2010
Is there ANY way to block internet to one of these phones? I can't tell by just powering it up, and don't want to buy the service plan since I can't get refunded if this doesn't work.Kiddo really wants a slider, but mean ol' mom says no way to internet!

I have a S2 on UK Vodafone contract even though I am currently living in NZ. My phone is a UK model.UK Vodafone have terminated the Passport service as of 1st November which means I now go on to NZ roaming which at 1.65/NZ$3.30 a minute is somewhat steep - I also pay that amount for the incoming call.I now need to block all incoming calls on my phone so as I am not tempted to answer calls at odd times of the day or night (quite hard when we are 13 hours ahead of UK and totally out of sync with them) and pay extortionate amounts of money BUT I need to leave the phone available to make and receive text messages. It is not as easy as to just get a NZ phone contract as this was my life line with friends and family in UK until my provider pulled the passport service so need to disable the phone I have.how to do this so as I can still send/receive text but NOT receive voice calls on my S2?

I know there is a number screening option, but i requires a specific number to be blocked. The problem is when a person wants to block an anonymous call.i wounder if there is a code that represents an incoming private call that way we could insert that code on the number to be screened.

I'm not new to buying phones off of eBay, but usually I do buy it now from a very large and prolific store for new imported GSM phones (like my current Samsung g600). I have never gotten a domestic US phone and want to get a Samsung Vibrant, but many of the cheaper new or used deals are from individual users with relatively smaller feedback numbers. How would I go about making sure I don't get a stolen phone from one of them? I know Verizon checks ESN numbers for their CDMA phones but I don't know what protections GSM phones have, if they have any at all. Do they check IMEI numbers? I think I remember hearing that custom firmwares will erase the number, so it isn't a good indicator and can be used against me to sell a phone. So for anyone buying domestic used or new phones, any tips on avoiding these situations? And even if I do end up with one, it probably won't brick on me like a CDMA phone would?

Samsung shipped 93.5 million phones in the three month period, while the former champ Nokia managed just 82.7 million. Of the shipped Samsung phones, 44.5 million were smartphones, which beats Apple's achievement of 35.1 million smartphones. This puts Samsung on top both in terms of both total phones shipped and in the number of smartphones.[URL]..

I just came back from a week in Spain and found a very expensive mobile phone bill. My Blackberry Bold had been automatically connecting to internet and downloading my email by phone in roaming mode. I had expected email was only active in a free wireless area but it seems this was not true, it also used phone calls to download mail.
How can I block that without doing something as brutal as removing the SIM card? Other kinds of phones have settings to do that but I haven't found these settings in Blackberry Bold.

For instance HTC Touch Viva is cheaper than Nokia 5800, Nokia 6790 or Motorola MOTOZINE ZN5... Why is that? What are HTC phones disadvantages compared with other brands phones?

The Samsung R800 still has nothing about it on the internet, so I'm hoping someone here will know.I have a CDMA Samsung R800 that was used with Alltel. A while back, Alltel suspended our account and since then we have switched to Cellular One.I have a Samsung T636 now.I found an app on "getjar.com" that allows me to use another phone to send messages and call and all that.I was wondering how to activate or use Java applications on my Samsung R800? It would be so helpful!

Apparently I'm the stupidest person with this phone. According to every website I've found you just START> Internet sharing> USB + Data> Connect and your online.I do this and it tells me "check USB connection" the USB is active, the phone is charging, but my PC says its an "unknown device".I spent hours searching for the intrepid's USB driver to no avail. (tried the "update driver wizard" in XP and it couldnt find drivers either.

I'm on 3 UK. When the phone shows that it has an HSPA signal (H or H+) I can connect to the internet (using the browser or a music streaming app for example). If the signal isn't HSPA then I lose internet access even when I still have a strong 3G signal. Has anyone else come across this with the SGS II or with other phones on 3 UK?

I've just moved over to Samsung from HTC (Desire HD). One great feature I used the "Internet Pass-Through" which is kinda the opposite of tethering, where I was able to get internet from my PC onto my phone at times when there was no wireless available so I had to plud a cable in my PC to get internet, then by connecting my phone to the PC via cable, I was able to use the PC's internet connection on my phone, which was great for down loading all my RSS feeds and so on.I've looked for this feature in my new SG S2 and could not find anything remotely like that. Is there a work around which can be done, or perhaps an app that does the same job?

I just recently purchased a Black Berry Curve 8310 off the internet after taking my old Samsung U740 into the lake with me while swimming.. yeah stupid, I know.. So, I found out that the U740 doesn't have a sim card, therefore I can;t just take it out and put it into my black berry. Do I have to go to Bell mobility and ask them for a sim card? Can I use the BB with my old plan?

I recently purchased a Samsung SGH-A256 phone to replace my old one that died. I got it cause the phone was cheap and I could just stick my SIM card in and be done with it. Anyway, I tried using the internet with it and it keeps saying "Error: Network Unavailable". I assume it's cause the phone uses the Edge network up here and I don't have access to it on my current plan (my old phone was a Sony Ericsson). So my question is: can I change the APN from internet.com to something and access the internet? Sorry, I'm a little foggy here but like I said, I'm new to all this. I've been trying to look around and find out what this APN business is but all the websites I find don't really explain it.
