How can I disable wifi and keep it switched off until I want to use it again, while keeping other radio services on.
I have pretty bad wi fi reception in my bedroom, however it's just sufficient for my phone to detect it and connect, but it drops out and syncing/downloading/loading web pages is very slow ad often fails.
I've got my S2 now for maybe 2 weeks now and only now I noticed that my Wifi hotspot function is not working. I tried that with 2 different SIM's (in different countries) with the same result. Tethering via USB works fine. I can switch on the wifi hotspot (open or secured) and I can even connect to it. On my Win7 machine I have a connection for a few moments, after that I lose connection and at the end I lose connection to the wifi hotspot.
On my blackberry I can connect the first time. That connection stays open for maybe a minute. After that it automatically disconnects and I cant connect anymore until i restart the hotspot. When I switch off the hotspot it takes a long time and it ends with error (the status under wifi hotspot). If I just enable hotspot and disable it again it is without errors. So this seems only to happen when a client actually connects... I tried already a factory reset and read somewhere to enable bluetooth before enabling the hotspot, but the problem stays the same ...
My samsung galaxy SII had been playing up, crashing etc for a couple of weeks, then for some unknown reason, it froze and died on me, never to be switched back on again. It has been well looked after so it hasn't been water damaged or dropped or anything of the sort. The battery was about 50% charged, I've also tried using somebody else's battery, tried connecting it to a PC, tried to start it whilst its connected to the charger and everything else I could think of but nothing. My main problem, is that I've been in touch with samsung and they asked to send the phone to them for repair, but told me that everything will be erased.
Now I know I am totally stupid for not backing up all of my media etc, but the information stored on the phone is worth more to me than what the phone is itself. Although the phone is totally dead and will not switch on, so how I can access my pictures/videos etc because surely it must be still stored on the phone somewhere. The phone itself is not as important to me as much as the media stored on it and I am willing to try anything to access my media files even if it means my phone isn't able to go for repair, I know I am going to receive comments for not backing up my media.
I configured my office emailbon S5 and I was asked to encrypt android...so I did.
Now that I have removed the account I still had to enter the 6 digit pin code to unlock the screen...
How I can disable this pin lock
i want to remove my email accounts from the social hub.in fact, i'm quite keen on deleting the whole thing as it doesn't seem to work very well for me.how can i stop the social hub from grabbing my emails?i want to remove my gmail account from it but i get a warning message saying it will delete all contacts etc from the device.

I don't want to have to swipe to go the the home screen. I have tried going into Location and Security>Set up screen lock>None. This didn't do anything. So I connect to a bluetooth device for my car to play music and provide directions. Driving mode somehow got turned on and is annoying as all heck. So basically I want it gone. It doesnt do anything for me, it just randomly resends a notification and interrupts my music and I have had it.

Yesterday the screen lock disabled by itself and no password was needed to get on phone. In addition, the Unlock effect "Water droplet" turned on.
I am using Advanced Task Killer which I'm finding really useful. I have an ignore list set and it kills the apps that aren't being used regularly. However, I'm wondering why these apps keep restarting again. The sort of things that keep restarting are Gallery, Messaging, Yahoo! Messenger, Email, Skype, Maps, etc. I'm sure that I'm signed out on all of these apps and have the settings set such that they shouldn't keep restarting/synching. Are there any apps similar to 'msconfig' in Windows where you can tick which things you want to start up and what you don't?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have Sprint Galaxy S5 and I am ready to throw it out the window. I have not had a problem with the phone until recently. I can't get it to cut the WiFi off and KEEP IT OFF!! I have tried everything!! I have gone into the advanced settings under WiFi and cut off the "network notification" (receive notification when open networks are in range), I've cut off the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and changed it to NEVER. I unchecked the box and cut off the "always allow scanning" feature. Also under advanced settings I have cut off the smart network switch.
I have also gone into the "more networks" and cut off my connection optimizer and cut off the partner WiFi option. Even went as far as going into the Network Mode and changed it to LTE/CDMA. All of this is what I have read on the forums. Nothing is working. The WiFi is still cutting on. It wouldn't bother me if I had WiFi to connect to but because I don't it's interfering with my regular mobile data and making it to where I can't use my data. It cuts on about every minute!! Not to mention this is draining my battery! Oh another thing, I downloaded a virus scanning app and my phone is clean.
I wanted to disable the peel remote from my lock screen, not my notification panel, but just my lock screen. I understand that there should be a option to do so, but it doesn't appear for me, the only option is to disable the remote from notification panel and lock screen, but I wanna keep it for the notification panel.

I got one problem already, which I didn't really expect. It finds more less all wifi's, at least the once I know of. I still use my iPhone 4, so the iPhone connects without any problems, but my S2 LTE can't even find it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this has probably been asked and answered a thousand times but...I recently took over ownership of a Galaxy 2 from someone else in the family and only use internet through wifi as I dont have data included in my tariff.However, I just saw on latest bill, I have a load of charges for data usage!I have done various searches and there seems to be lots of solutions but no DEFINITIVE one that i have read?The most obvious one I have read is to switch the data mode off from the power button. Another is to deactivate packet data in the network menu (I would have thought the first action would do the same?). I have done both but the charges still continue. I assume then that some apps are running in the background and accessing at random times?
So is what I am describing a normal 'feature' of the phone? Why is the phone allowing apps to override a very high level user setting???If this is the case, my searching has now left me baffled. I have read about downloading apps to switch the 3G connection off? Also I read I could set the phone to run on 2G?Does setting the phone on 2G affect any other functionality? I would like to use the phone for everything else eg wifi gps etc. I just dont want any non wifi internet data usage at all permanently!Lastly, I believe with the network internet connection, I cannot send or receive mms at all? I guess I will have to accept that.
I've had my Galaxy S II for 5 months now and have always gotten it connected to my home's wifi. Now for some reason it's not connecting. My wifi is up and running fine (connected on my PC as I type this), the password is set fine for the Galaxy, but instead of connecting, Settings only says "Saved, secured with WPA/WPA2" after clicking "Connect". Signal strength is noted as "Excellent". I've tried re-entering the password several times, but the same results every time.

The only problem I've encountered in the three days I've had it is that it won't connect via wifi to my home computer (a Mac). With my Mac's 'Airport' and 'Internet Sharing' turned on, my boyfriend can connect to wifi from the Mac to his iPhone but my S2 refuses to connect. Once I turn on wifi on the S2, under 'Wi-Fi networks' it brings up my computer and my neighbours' wifi networks. I click on my computer's name, type in the password, but then it just cycles from 'Scanning...', 'Connecting..' to 'Disconnected'. I've spent hours trawling Google for a solution. Under the 'Advanced' wifi settings I selected 'Use static IP' (but I'm not convinced I put in the right numbers under 'IP address', 'Gateway', 'Netmask' and 'DNS'). I don't know if it makes a difference but in System Preferences > Network > Airport, it says 'Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the Internet'. But my computer is clearly visible on the wifi network because my boyfriend could connect wifi from my computer to his iPhone.
