Galaxy S5 :: How To Disable WiFi From Scanning And Cutting On By Itself
Feb 20, 2015
I have Sprint Galaxy S5 and I am ready to throw it out the window. I have not had a problem with the phone until recently. I can't get it to cut the WiFi off and KEEP IT OFF!! I have tried everything!! I have gone into the advanced settings under WiFi and cut off the "network notification" (receive notification when open networks are in range), I've cut off the "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" and changed it to NEVER. I unchecked the box and cut off the "always allow scanning" feature. Also under advanced settings I have cut off the smart network switch.
I have also gone into the "more networks" and cut off my connection optimizer and cut off the partner WiFi option. Even went as far as going into the Network Mode and changed it to LTE/CDMA. All of this is what I have read on the forums. Nothing is working. The WiFi is still cutting on. It wouldn't bother me if I had WiFi to connect to but because I don't it's interfering with my regular mobile data and making it to where I can't use my data. It cuts on about every minute!! Not to mention this is draining my battery! Oh another thing, I downloaded a virus scanning app and my phone is clean.
2 weeks ago my wifi wasn't even turning on, no matter what i tried, the wifi button was always on off.
Then today it just randomly worked and I was able to turn on my wifi, it allowed me to use my wifi network for 5 min.
I decided to turn the wifi off then on again, and now it doesn't scan for networks. So even though my wifi is on, there are no list of networks I can choose to join.
edit: Smart network switch is always off, because mobile data is always disabled for me, Also i cannot find reply button.
I'm using Curve 8900 os5.0.0.592 on vodafone. My phone had a problem with its speakerphone and I had to have it replaced. It was replaced at a backdoor repair because in Zimbabwe there are no registered blackberry® technicians. The speakerphone is now functioning but the wifi is no-longer scanning. Just wanted to ask if the two are by any chance related. Also BBS are not available in Zimbabwe so I rely on wifi when I want to use the browser.
I use to keep the WiFi Scanning for location services on before Lollipop. Since Lollipop, if it is on, WiFi is ALWAYS scanning killing my battery within the hour. So I turned it off hoping that the Marshmallow update(s) would fix this. I'm on 6.0.1 and the issue is still here. It's kind of annoying turning on WiFi just for my GPS to lock on accurately. If so what fixed your phone.? I've done cache clearing, in the phone menu itself and through recovery to no avail.
I bought my Xperia NEO few days back and m having Wifi connection problem. My mobile detects a network properly but when I connect, it shows status Conecting, then it switches to Scanning and in the end shows Disconnected. I've tried it on several hot spots but to no avail. Whether it is sensor problem or some software issue or what shall I do.
When setting wifi to turn off when screen turns off it does so and that's perfect. However, When the screen is reactivated the wifi locks in "scanning" forever unless you press disable and enable wifi in whech case it will immediately steps scanning > acquiring > connected.
Our company was able to receive the new Bold 9900 but it seems there is an issue with activating wifi on the device. Have tried turning on Wifi, but it attempts scanning for networks then eventually fails and turns wifi off. It doesn't even list any active access points. Doing a battery pull and reset the device to factory defaults does not seem to do the trick. I am thinking it could be a defective device or perhaps a software issue. BB OS: v7.1.0.1091
I woke up this morning and the media scan was running at 0%, first of all i didnt think much of it so i just left it. A few hours later I heard my phone was dying so I went to put it on charge and noticed that the media scan was still running. so i turned it off, waited a few mins then turned it back on, just in case it needed a bit of a kick up the backside. Once I had turned it back on I just left it on charge while I went to do things. went back to it a little while later and it hardly charged at all and the media scan was still at 0%. I uninstalled a few apps - nothing changed, tried connecting to kies via usb and nothing as it was still scanning. The phone itself is is very hot at the top behind the camera, it's not charging properly and I havent been able to back anything up - I just hope everything is stored on my sdcard.
Issue I'm having with WiFi. When I disable it, the first time it turns itself back on. When I disable it a second time again right away it stays off, any way to keep it off the first time? Sprint GS6.
How can I disable wifi and keep it switched off until I want to use it again, while keeping other radio services on.
I have pretty bad wi fi reception in my bedroom, however it's just sufficient for my phone to detect it and connect, but it drops out and syncing/downloading/loading web pages is very slow ad often fails.
I have an android wear, but every time I go into Bluetooth settings its constantly searching. I stop it then go back into it and it's goes back to searching.
Lots of complaints from the other end of my calls that my voice cuts out and then comes back, and during the cut-out time there is noise on the line. Can't find anything relevant to Galaxy 6 edge and this problem. Already changed the phone once as I though it was a device specific issue, but appears to be something I'm doing or a setting maybe?
I have a curve 9300 and I am unable to scan a bar code and 9 times out of 10 it causes my phone to freeze and I have to remove the battery is it a problem with the software or with the phone its self
I've tried more than a few times to scan a barcode image with the scanning app on my 9670 and I can't get anything to happen? What kind of confirmation am I lookung for when scanning?
I have bought Blackberry bold 9900. I can use GPRS to sync the mail, calendar, browse internet and so on, but this is a little bit expensive and I have wifi at home so I want to use it instead of GPRSHow can I disable GPRS (so that I'm sure that the phone doesn't sync or use internet through it) and enable wifi so that the phone only can use this to avoid huge bill for cell phone? I understand, that I can't use BBM and some few other apps with wifi, but let say I want to check only my gmail account, browse internet at home on WIFI, send/receive sms and answer calls. If I disable "data services" in "mobile network" wifi stays connected, but I can't browse.
I me using bb 8520 curve i have deactivate the data service from my phone but i don't want to switch of my network from manage connections i want to use both wifi and network because my cell should be switch on 24/7 in short i want to use wifi along with making and recieving calls
Is there anyway to disable the feature "App is over 20mb, please connect to wifi" so I can download large apps in 3G? I have 6GB/month and don't care if it is over 20mb!
I have a strange problem. My E5 has the following setting for WLAN:
Ctr Panel>Settings>Connection>Wireless LAN>Show WLAN Availablity = Never
However, the entire time the background scanning is being done and "Select WLAN Network" popup comes with all the networks around me. I guess this is eating into the battery life and barely 10 hrs in the day, the battery dies out. I would like to add that I am a non phone person & hardly talk on the phone.
I am able to access the network service providers 3G network normally. I want to shut this background scanning for good and use only the network of my service provider.
I "upgraded" from 9700 to 9900. How disappointing that I can't use it for barcode scanning of books, product upc's or business card scanning. Amazon Price Check app will not even download. I even paid for apps for my old 9700 that I can't use. I expected more from bb as a business tool. I had to buy an Android(ugh) just to operate my Amazon business properly. I am a long time user of bb, but come on bb.
If I use Hey Cortana when the screen is locked it completely bypasses the PIN and iris scanner and leaves the phone unlocked after Cortana answers my query. Security flaw? I do have Cortana set for my voice only.
I want to use whatsapp on my nokia C3-00 and use it only through the wifi. I have tried creating new access point but every time I connect it uses gprs although packet data connection is selected to 'when connected'. I have deleted the access points through personnel settings but still some access points are available through packet data. Is it because of that gprs is activated? If yes, how can I delete them?
How can I force disable/disconnect the wifi/3g ? I set to widget of the home screen to offline mode. but everytime I manually disconnect the wifi, it automatically reconnects in the second. I have my mail,(hotmail), facebook status, calendar, some webshortcuts, and the info like cnn, weaher, reuters.
when I go to sleep, I dont want the connection to be active.
I'm new to blackberry and having some issue with email and WIFI. The thing is that I have no data plan, I get charge on the amount of trafic. So I want to force the phone to GSM and be able to get my email pushed whenever I'm connected to WIFI. I've search everywhere but it seems that there is no way to do it. I tryed to disable data but it disable email via WIFI (but you can surf with the browser). tryed to turn off mobile network, I receive my email via WIFI but no one can call me then.I want to use BB email service and don't want to install any other email software.
I have my home network set to "disable SSID Broadcast" which make my network name invisible when a device including my phone scans for wi-fi's; when I enable SSID Broadcast my phone can see the network name and it can connect to it when I input the network password...no problem so far, works perfectly! but when I disable again the SSID Broadcast then the phone gets disconnected. I try to connect to the network with SSID Broadcast disabled (the phone shows a wi-fi location with no name but stored which I assume it's mine) I type the SSID name and password but it won't connect again until the SSID Broadcast is enabled.
For security purposes I like to keep the SSID Broadcast disabled but then I can't connect my phone to the network. I have 2 desktops, 1 laptop, a Xbox and a Wii all connected wirelessly; I don't know why is not working with my phone.
I'm using Xperia Z2, and this week I've update it into official Android Lollipop 5.0.2 through PC Companion. However, after the update installed, i seen a horrible WiFi problem: It's "always on". Even after I turn off scanning always available option on Advance Setting, the WiFi still on, as seen from the Battery Usage. This problem makes my Z2's keep awake and taking a huge battery loss.
