Can someone tell me how to download maps to the N900. Please don't tell me the only way to use maps is over a wifi or packet connection! That would make it unfeasible to use when on holday because of data costs!Also is anyone else struggling to get a gps signal?Also when are we going to get turn by turn guidance.
View 18 RepliesAgain, I am starting the topic of Nokia Map Loader. I have read all the topics regarding this issue here and on other forums, nothing works for me. I can't seem to have a way of downloading the Europe maps, when I go to the Pc Suite mode, the phone drive is visible and download is almost possible but when I choose a map, even a small one, the disc space information shows e.g. -53MB available space. If I go to the mass storage mode, in accordance with the instructions here:

I get the info message: One of the phones is connected in mass storage mode... And when I tick the info box, waiting for phone appears and nothing happens. Map loading to N900 is a JOKE my friends. If anybody can help me, I'd be grateful. I have tried deleting the cities folder and then recreating it once more. My PC operating system is WIndows 7.
plz help me if u can i have n900 and i dont know how to use ovi maps on it. every time i use maps it appear to connect to internet and if i dont conncet it nothing work like places ( cant find places)but if i connect to internet i can find places. no vioces on gps (go left go right)note: i downloaded map loader and download map for my country.i hope any body help me and thanks for your helps
View 5 Replies View RelatedAbout a month ago I bought the Nokia 5800 as I wanted the free Sat Nav, I have version 3.01 on the phone, when I phoned Nokia about something else I asked them about version 3.03 and they told me I could not install this until I had used all the days of my 10 free trial, then I was to ring them again and they would help install it for me, after 55 minutes on the phone we had no joy, so I decided to try myself and did it first time. Now the question I need answered with your help is, I am going to Italy in June and when I open the GPS (offline) it works fine in the UK where I live, and when I input the town Pisa, Italy it finds it on the maps, does this mean that the Sat Nav will work in Italy or is this just a map?
When you download version 3.03 does it download all the maps?Also is there anyway I can find out which maps I have on the phone?
I am trying to download MAPS 3.0 onto my N900 via Nokia PC Suite. The instructions tell me to connect my phone via USB in Mass Storage Mode but MAPS 3.0 tells me to connect it in PC Suite mode. When I do this, I get a flashing message saying 'waiting for phone'.
I've tried connecting in both mass storage and PC Suite but the flashing message remains and I am getting frustrated as this is supposed to be easy to complete!
Read about the new Ovi Maps version which Nokia N8 user will get. Any information about it to be available to Nokia N900 via f/w update or standalone update?

Scenario:
1. Set target address and let Maps calculate route. so far, so good
2. Start driving. As long as you stay "on route",things are ok
3. You notice that Maps route is not optimal and start driving your own route. Maps does not care.
4. In order to re-calculate route from your current GPS position to same target address. Maps UI gets very clumsy. First you need clear the map, re-enter the target address (well..luckily it's still in search window), ask to Maps to re-route. While doing all this, your car is prob. out of the road already.Why Maps doesn't re-calculate the route automatically when it detects that the GPS position is well "off-the-route". My friend was using his iPhone 3GS + navigation. It did the thing as expected.is this common behaviour of Nokia Maps, or just the N900 version that lags well behind other versions.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a nokia E7 (Blue) US Version but I am using it in Canada. I updated it to Symbian Anna and so on. Everytime I try to add new maps from the cell phone itself it says (downloading list, please wait) this takes FOREVER, then i try to do it by nokia ovi suite, well that is even worse, sometimes it says THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH CONNECTING THE ONLINE MAPS, sometimes it says some crazy errors (COULDNT CONNECT TO THE SERVICE, ETCC). I deleted the E:/cities folder + QF file, I opened the Ovi map apps and they got restored and so on but still nothing happens. Is there any other way to add some map I mean MANUALLY? I need the USA and Canada map, (voice guidande male us), I read some discussion from Ovikudy on how to do it manually but i need theses files.
BTW, I regret buying this Nokia E7 big time I should have listened to my friends and go to ANDROID. I know nokia is killing symbian but please fix those MAP serverS.
I have just purchased the new N900 phone. First impression is it looks very good and works well, BUT still lacking the key features of the N96 such as:
Ovi Maps does not provide voice navigation. Java is not supported so such brilliant apps such as the Opera browsers can not be installed onto it. PC suite is not yet available it the phone. So at first glance it is a great phone that could match the IPhone, but more work needs to be done to it to make it the all singing and dancing phone that Nokia needs it to be. If i am wrong on these points could someone point me in the right direction of addressing them
1- I have installed PC SUIT suitable for nokia N900
2- Also installed nokia map loader version 3.0
Now all is fine. Isn't it? So they said first start nokia map application till it load completely then close it. I did. Then connect ur phone on PC SUIT MODE and also I did that. Then all I get on nokia map loader app is "Waiting for the phone" thats it and phone already connected I tried in both modes pc suit and mass storage but still the same "Waiting for the phone" and I am waiting too.
After just paying alot of monies for this handset, I feel let down...
1. Most obvious and talked about is the OVi Maps update. Iv read this is on its way, I hope its soon!
2. No MMS
3. No SMS without conversations, I hate conversations. I hate that nokia are copying iphone...
4. No copying of old SMS to N900. I was a N86 8MP user before this handset arrived today. I have about 1 to 2 THOUSAND messages, from over the years and Im a texaholic, so I NEED to save them....
5. No extra data connections, With O2 UK, I would normally have 3 connections:
O2 MMS
O2 WAP
O2 GPRS
But in addition to this, the new sim cards, automatically have a O2 postpay wap connection. So, I would like to have as many connections as I can!
6. No editing contact number description text. With, another let down, I have hundreds of contacts and about 10-30 of those have more than 2 or 3 numbers. For example, my workplace contact. I had like 10 to 11 numbers, plus other details, such as notes and emails all stored under 1 contact! For each number and note, I edited the text so I know exactly whos number it was, or what that text related to
I sure there's more, but atm since turning it on, charging, updating to latest firmware and first time boot with sim card, this is what I have found so far...
is it true, the N900 does not have a compass and free Nokia maps navigation is not available to the N900?

Yesterday, I was trying to locate a place (London) using Ovi maps and I got completely lost. I never had such a problem before with google maps which pinpoint my location much more precisely (using EDGE) than Ovi maps using GPS. It might be that I am just dumb but has anyone had the same experience? how can I make Ovi maps more precise? using 3g instead of GPS?Many thanks for your time reading this and your reply if any.

I used the map downloader from Nokia to download maps to N900. Even after downloading complete germany maps, N900 still downloads more data . Later on I just copied the cities folder from my E71 to N900. Even after that there were no maps preinstalled. I am using PR1.1. Any hints
View 8 Replies View Relatedi downloaded the new firmware 44.1 to my phone yesterday through NSU & did my backup restore.but for some reason I canot download from Ovi Store.After I click download in Ovi Store- the app manager opens & just says "preparing for installation" & stays there for ever.. nothng happens... I had to stop the downloads manually many times..I checked the log file in Application Manager & here is the error message.

I bought this device right after Nokia announced that free offline navigation would be available for all current N-series handsets.How come that Ovi Maps is not available for the current N-series flagship? It should not be too hard to port the actual application to Maemo (the current navigation is not that bad - it just needs offline maps).Where can I find the release schedule for Ovi Maps for Maemo?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was thrilled to read that finally, Nokia Maps were unexpectedly free. I looked for a download link for my N78 and eventually found one on the Nokia site, so I downloaded the new Map Updater App.
1) While trying to install the maps, the installer prompted me that there wasn't enough space available. I searched my phone and erased as much as possible.
2) At the same time, I installed the new PC Suite. As a result, after restart, my N78 isn't recognized anymore by the computer.
So here my two questions again: how do I restore connectivity between my PC (running XP SP3) and my phone and how do I install those maps?
I have a Nokia 5230 which I have made sure has the latest firmware, downloaded Ovi Suite, installed the latest free version of Ovi maps. Now I connect to my PC and go to maps on Ovi suite and it won't let me doownload any maps, what am I doing wrong? I have tried deleting the cities folder and the other file on the handset first and then retrying etc but nothing seems to work.

It's got the latest firmware on it but for some reason I can't download the new nokia maps v3. I'm still stuck with the **bleep** v1! Called Nokia, they promised a call back within 48 hours, that was a week ago!

I have tried everything that I know how to.
Also I cannot update or download the new Ovi Maps for my phone as well.
Maps kept crashing on me. My one year warranty just expired. I'm so fed up with this phone. ANYWAY, I was using the GPS when it failed on me and decided to restore my phone. After doing that, I tried to install maps and now my phone tells me that there is not enough space on my phone. I says it needs well over 3000MBs of space. My memory card has at least that much on it. How do I get Maps to download onto my memory card?
What else could I do? I don't think my phone has enough memory with nothing installed on it to get all of the USA (but I had it all on my phone before I restored it, in addition to Mexico and Canada).
I looked through the faqs and it said to go to update and add map while in the app. I can't find anything in the app that will let me update -__- Do I have to be connected to the pc? I can't run Zune because I don't have SP3. I would like to just use my wifi connection for this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have recently upgraded my firmware on an E71 (Orange UK) I can download maps via the wifi as I need them, but am having unknown errors when I try to load maps via OVI Suite - again latest version . There is plenty of space on my memory card. The recommended course of action is to delete the CITIES folder and the qf file. The latter is fine, but with 'CITIES' I get messages like 'the folder is not empty'. Folders that seem empty are said not to be, and folders the appear to be there and empty 'can't be found'. At present I have some of the contents of the cities folder deleted but not all of it. Is there a workaround for this?

After that I realized, that the map software distributed with the new firmware is old (2.0 or older), and doesn't even work, I got only notice I am supposed to download the new version. Before the update, I was using Ovi Maps 3.0 with paid navigation. Now the Maps Updater seems to have problem to download the Ovi Maps, I tried this on several internet connections already. It's saying "Cannot get enough information about the phone[1]. Connection to the map server has been interrupted (9)." Is there any chance to fix this in short time?
