Nokia :: N900 Want To Download OVI Map Loader / Not Show Up Supported Device
Feb 9, 2010
I just replaced my **bleep** 5800XM with a N900 (I really love it).Now I wanted to download the "Ovi Map Loader", but the N900 does not show up as a supported device. I bought this device right after Nokia announced that free offline navigation would be available for all current N-series handsets. How come that Ovi Maps is not available for the current N-series flagship? It should not be too hard to port the actual application to Maemo (the current navigation is not that bad - it just needs offline maps).Where can I find the release schedule for Ovi Maps for Maemo?
Again, I am starting the topic of Nokia Map Loader. I have read all the topics regarding this issue here and on other forums, nothing works for me. I can't seem to have a way of downloading the Europe maps, when I go to the Pc Suite mode, the phone drive is visible and download is almost possible but when I choose a map, even a small one, the disc space information shows e.g. -53MB available space. If I go to the mass storage mode, in accordance with the instructions here: http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-n900/
I get the info message: One of the phones is connected in mass storage mode... And when I tick the info box, waiting for phone appears and nothing happens. Map loading to N900 is a JOKE my friends. If anybody can help me, I'd be grateful. I have tried deleting the cities folder and then recreating it once more. My PC operating system is WIndows 7.
Map loader is no longer supported by Nokia. It is not possible to download, install, and use the Map loader application. Could someone confirm this or post the link to the installation of Map Loader.
I have been trying to load maps into my N900 using the Map Loader. The N900 was connected to my Windows 7 laptop using Mass Storage mode. Fire off Map Loader and then it got stuck at "waiting for phone". That message keep flishing and nothign else seems to be happening. Anyone encounter a simple problem and it is possible to fix this one?
Nokia. Why release a phone with no/very little software support? It's been about 4 months since the release and it's still not much better.I replaced my Iphone with the N900 because it's meant to be an Iphone beater, but the truth is looking sadly the opposite.Nokia Map loader is not working and the PC Suite has bugs and it's complicated having to switch between PC Suite mode and Mass Storage mode. What's happened to my free Navigation?Come on Nokia this is embarrasing, I absolutely love this phone and I want to recommed it to my friends, but with the software situation that's not a possibility.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried using the (new) Nokia Map Loader with the N900? According to http://maemo-freak.com/index.php/miscellaneous/1379-map-loader-for-maemo-devices-announced this new version should work with the N900 but it fails on both my Win7 and WinXP machines (both 32-bit). Amusingly, the Nokia web site specifically says to use Mass Storage Mode if you're using an N900 so I obediently did so, but then the software itself told me I must use PC Suite mode so I gave that a go and it failed too. I have run Ovi Maps on the device several times so I know the directories are there, it just seems a shambles.
1 - Not all n900 applications i find on the net are searchable or listed at all on the n900s built in application downloader. some files i download manually off the net are in gz and deb format. do i need to install the nokia pc software and transfer them to the phone in order to use them, as i cannot find any other way to do it? from using google there are an awful lot of users saying the nokia software does not work very well at the moment and to avoid using it until its fully adapted for the n900, as some features are supposedly unusable?
2 - is there an easy file unzip program for the n900, hopefully easily found within the n900s application downloader? i tried searching for 'zip' and 'unzip' but nothing crops up
I have recently received a new Nokia N900 and have updated the PC Suite software to V7.1.50.2. When I plug my phone into the PC and try to synchronise the new phone to my PC. (I run Windsow 7 and trying to sync Outlook 2007 Calendar and Contacts). I keep getting the message "The connected device is not supported by PC Sync". I feel like I've stepped back intot he dark ages... And I can not download music or pictures to the phone either. i have not been abvle to do a single thing on this phone and just about ready to give up! I have been talking almost daily to the Nokia Tech Support department who say they are going to refer the problem to more senior development people - and are now challenging me that I don't know what I'm talking about - and call me back during the day when I am not at home!
I'm having trouble connecting fully my N900 to my laptop using the PC Suite software again.I got my phone earlier this month and i managed to connect the phone to the laptop then with no problem, however, yesterday, i reinstalled my windows xp like i do every few months and installed the nokia pc suite to my laptopn and now i am unable to transfer any media files i.e. music, films and such to my phone.i dont get this at all as the pc suite connects to the phone fine as it shows my calendar too and the image of my phone but everytime i transfer some files through Transfers videos section it doesnt recognise any phone. I usually add those media files through My Computer>Device with Removable Storage as an icon of the phone appears there but thats not even there anymore. I also notice on the bottom of main screen of the pc suite this message:Welcome to PC Suite Unfortunately your device is not fully supported by Nokia PC Suite.I dont know what that means and how to resolved it. I have followed every help/how to guide and FAQ i could find with no luck. I did everything correctly when i connected the phone to the laptop and i have installed and reinstalled the pc suite but again no luck.when i hoover over the phone icon on thre system tray of my laptop i noticed that: N900 (Storage Mode) connected in a non-compatible USB mode. is this the problem?
One week ago i just bought the nokia N900 with the latest firmware 3.2010.02-8 with maemo 5 installed.I played around with the device and its quite amazing on how this thing can do so much as a small computer but a little thing can do as a phone mobile. i'm a little bit dissapointed about N900 as a phone mobile, because some of the features not support or i don't know why, for example :
1. first came the N900 don't supported FM radio, but when i download application FM Radio now my N900 can be used for FM Radio
2. N900 don't fully support mms, but there is a tutorial on this forum on how to use mms in N900 using fMMS
3. N900 don't support our local telecomunication dialing pattern such as ( *.....# )
4. N900 don't support Video Call, this is something that N900 very disappointing. All N series can do video call and also there is a front camera.
5. Is the N900 fully support in maemo 6 ( meego )..?
I really hope that The Nokia team can do about this issues, especially for video call which i or even a lot of people using it.
I'm trying to play a radio station on the N900 internet radio but I get the message that the media cannot be played, audio codec not supported. I was able to play the same station on my old N96 and other stations work on the N900.Is there something I need to download to sort this out?
It seems that Nokia Map Loader is dropped from the the Nokia/Ovi portfolio. The download link cannot be found and when opening Nokia Map Loader an error (connection has been interrupted) is displayed. Can someone knowledgeable confirm that Nokia Map Loader is no more and that this happy Nokia PC Suite users is forced into the buggy Ovi Suite?
I recently updated my n8-00 to symbian anna. When I use the map loader to download australian maps I get the status bar showing the download progress then when it gets to the end it says 'Unrecoverable download error' and no maps are loaded.
I have Fring on my phone and it works fine. But I'd like to install Skype. When I try to download it on my E 72 I see that it not support Skype. The same thing is with E 63
I have installed OVI PC suite on my laptopwith windows 7. After successful installation of suite, when i connect my N900 with laptop, it gives an error your device is not supported.
I wanted to update my Nokia maps on my Noka N82. I have Nokia maps 2 installed. I have downloaded (nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis) from (http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-n82/) I also installed "OVI suite" and sent the file to my mobile, but when I send the file Error occures it Says: "nokia_maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis is not supported". How can I solve this problem and install OVi maps?
I' ve placed all my music ( ripped on WMP from CDs ) on a Micro SD card. When I introduced the card into the N900, all songs were automatically listed on the Media player but without the corresponding CD covers which were treated as images and stored on the Photo gallery. Now, how do I solve that ? Is there a means to force those CD covers to take their places on the Media player ?
Can someone tell me how to download maps to the N900. Please don't tell me the only way to use maps is over a wifi or packet connection! That would make it unfeasible to use when on holday because of data costs! Also is anyone else struggling to get a gps signal? Also when are we going to get turn by turn guidance.
Can you download a free satnav for the N900? I have had one on the N97 and N95 but struggling with this one.
Where can I get free films from and also what programs would I use to Copy DVD's to the phone? Also is there a way of getting the screen to flip from landscape to portrait automatically?
I used the map downloader from Nokia to download maps to N900. Even after downloading complete germany maps, N900 still downloads more data . Later on I just copied the cities folder from my E71 to N900. Even after that there were no maps preinstalled. I am using PR1.1. Any hints

When i try to flash my n900 it says usb device not found. waiting. when i connect my n900 in usb mode it does nothing.im using windows vista please help!
I ssh from n900 to a debian server, which has locale sv_SE.ISO-8859-1. This mostly works fine, except when reading/writing email in mutt. I have had this problem with other terminals and usually solve it by changing locale to ISO-8859-1 (yes, I am not interested in UTF-8), but I can't find any instructions for changing n900 xterm to ISO-8859-1.
As soon as I opened my N900 box, and found that cable for TV connecting, I was thinking, could it be possible to use this phone as video capturing device directly from video cam?Second thought was "that would also make fine monitoring device on the field".I know that I can connect this phone to some sort of network with my computer, and via that to get it to be a computer monitor if I like.My camcoder can send video through that TV-cable, so could it be possible?
Yesterday evening, I suddenly couldn't get a GPRS or any other phone signal on my phone. On switching off/on, I was informed of the above error message.I tried rebooting the phone via the 'u' key (battery out) process and this did not solve the problem. I tried the SIM card in my old phone and it worked perfectly. The N900 WLAN works normally.I did nothing unusual with the phone yesterday evening so I am bemused at this error suddenly happening.
