I have been trying to load maps into my N900 using the Map Loader. The N900 was connected to my Windows 7 laptop using Mass Storage mode. Fire off Map Loader and then it got stuck at "waiting for phone". That message keep flishing and nothign else seems to be happening. Anyone encounter a simple problem and it is possible to fix this one?
View 17 RepliesI've downloaded the new ovi maps 3.3. But I have no actual maps on it, I just see empty space and have all the options for GPS etc. Now I want to use Map loader. It keeps telling me "Waiting for phone' fine I plug in my phone with usb cable, take pc suite, and it just keeps on going "waiting for phone", now when I choose Mass storage mode, I get an error telling me " You have atleast 1 phone connected in mass storage mode, please reconnect your phone and select pc suite" I do that and yep. Keeps going "Waiting for phone".

View 4 Replies View RelatedJust wondering if anyone else has tried using the (new) Nokia Map Loader with the N900? According to http://maemo-freak.com/index.php/miscellaneous/1379-map-loader-for-maemo-devices-announced this new version should work with the N900 but it fails on both my Win7 and WinXP machines (both 32-bit). Amusingly, the Nokia web site specifically says to use Mass Storage Mode if you're using an N900 so I obediently did so, but then the software itself told me I must use PC Suite mode so I gave that a go and it failed too. I have run Ovi Maps on the device several times so I know the directories are there, it just seems a shambles.

Now all is fine. Isn't it? So they said first start nokia map application till it load completely then close it. I did. Then connect ur phone on PC SUIT MODE and also I did that. Then all I get on nokia map loader app is "Waiting for the phone" thats it and phone already connected I tried in both modes pc suit and mass storage but still the same "Waiting for the phone" and I am waiting too.
Nokia. Why release a phone with no/very little software support? It's been about 4 months since the release and it's still not much better.I replaced my Iphone with the N900 because it's meant to be an Iphone beater, but the truth is looking sadly the opposite.Nokia Map loader is not working and the PC Suite has bugs and it's complicated having to switch between PC Suite mode and Mass Storage mode. What's happened to my free Navigation?Come on Nokia this is embarrasing, I absolutely love this phone and I want to recommed it to my friends, but with the software situation that's not a possibility.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAgain, I am starting the topic of Nokia Map Loader. I have read all the topics regarding this issue here and on other forums, nothing works for me. I can't seem to have a way of downloading the Europe maps, when I go to the Pc Suite mode, the phone drive is visible and download is almost possible but when I choose a map, even a small one, the disc space information shows e.g. -53MB available space. If I go to the mass storage mode, in accordance with the instructions here:

I get the info message: One of the phones is connected in mass storage mode... And when I tick the info box, waiting for phone appears and nothing happens. Map loading to N900 is a JOKE my friends. I just replaced my **bleep** 5800XM with a N900 (I really love it).Now I wanted to download the "Ovi Map Loader", but the N900 does not show up as a supported device. I bought this device right after Nokia announced that free offline navigation would be available for all current N-series handsets.How come that Ovi Maps is not available for the current N-series flagship? It should not be too hard to port the actual application to Maemo (the current navigation is not that bad - it just needs offline maps).Where can I find the release schedule for Ovi Maps for Maemo?
View 7 Replies View Related1 - Not all n900 applications i find on the net are searchable or listed at all on the n900s built in application downloader. some files i download manually off the net are in gz and deb format. do i need to install the nokia pc software and transfer them to the phone in order to use them, as i cannot find any other way to do it? from using google there are an awful lot of users saying the nokia software does not work very well at the moment and to avoid using it until its fully adapted for the n900, as some features are supposedly unusable?
2 - is there an easy file unzip program for the n900, hopefully easily found within the n900s application downloader? i tried searching for 'zip' and 'unzip' but nothing crops up
When I start Nokia Map Loader application for dowloading maps on Nokia 5230 I get an error message saying :

I got the N97 on the basis of the maps and GPS stuff. Problem is I have never managed to download maps. I'm using mao loader 3.0.28.0 and Map version 0.1.23.112 both freshly downloaded and installed. There's 24.2GB free memory and my selcted map is175.5MB. When I try to downlad maps I get one of 3 things. The download hangs at about 30-40% I know my internet connection is fine because I'm browsing. The download completes and I get an unknown error when save to storage medium starts. I get a storage medium disconnected message. I've tried it on a desktop and a laptop pc. I've done a full reset on the phone and started all over again. I've trawled all the boards and blogs that come up in google and no one seems to have an answer. I'm starting to get very hacked off with how much of my time is getting soaked up getting nowhere.
View 4 Replies View RelatedXM 5800, latest firmware, Maps 3 installed and working OK. I get "Error while loading catalogue for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic" whenever I start Map Loader 3. Uninstalled/reinstalled Map Loader 3 several times. Tried suggested fixes of deleting qf and cities folder then running Maps to recreate file structure. Tried it on a Windows 7 PC with PC Suite and also a Vista PC with Ovi Suite. Same error message. I am left without the ability to download any maps except over the air as I go incurring data charges. So I may as well just use Google maps! I see in the discussion groups this issue comes up for many different Nokia phones occasionally but I have never seen a solution.

Either you are using an old Map version - .. - or have never started your Maps application. I can't install new maps anymore - I just can click this error window away and choose some maps, they would be downloaded from the Internet, but they would not appear on my mobile! With a previous version of the map loader (don't know the version number any more, and previous maps version on the phone, I also need a link to Maps Updater due the Nokia site malfunction - couldn't find this software anymore.
I have a problem with the "map loader" and my Nokia 5800 XM. The map loader worked as I bought the phone some months ago. Everything worked fine. Today I had to do a reset. The map is still working, but I cant get the map loader to work. After the start of the program and sync with the 5800 XM im getting an errormsg (in german but im trying to translate) "cannot load the catalog of the 5800 xm". Thats it. I googled whole day, but found no solution so this forum is my last help right now. It worked (today) before i have done the reset so im thinking that its not my OS (Windows7 64bit).
View 6 Replies View RelatedHere what I done since the begging of the problem: when I first use, everything was ok (at least to me). One day without remembering to disconnect the device from Windows XP Sp2, I disconnected the USB cable to aswer a call (it was in mass storage mode).
After that don't remember exactly how but a few minutes laters after reboot the n900 some widgets disappeared from desktop. So I added them one more time but they won't come to desktop... I repeated many times the adding and after that the N900 gone crazy. Some applications still works but others didn't show the icon program on the menu, only the name under the icon appear, and when i tried to execute one of them the screen returned to desktop with all the widgets that first didn't show and the device reboot alone.
So I decided to flash and I followed every single step (that I found in a thread wrote by adamf) to flash maemo on N900 and I did it. But when I try to erase mass memory, the dots on the N900 screen stopped move and in the DOS windows there was: "suitable USB device not found, waiting". The N900 seems freezed. After 30 minutes I disconnected the USB cable and turned ON the device and it is OK. Well, all data is still there. Do I need to reset mass memory to erase the programs downloaded from the application catalogues? Flashing maemo doesn't do that?
Tried two times but the same thing happens and I quitted. I started to use the device and it works fine but I can't install some applications that first I had installed, like bounce evolution, APP widget, facebook widget (impossible installing error). But forecast weather and other widgets works... I can't understand why. Tried also other flasher like Global (first I have intalled Middle East) but I have the same error...
When downloading maps to my phone with Ver.3.0 Maps Loader, part 1/2 works fine, but at part 2/2, i get this "connection to medium storage interrupted. Attach your storage medium and retry" error at 85.1% everytime (i've tried several times).
Some info:
- I have ver.3.0 Maps on my phone.
- I've also tried updating the firmware and its up-to-date.
- I'm using a 8Gb memory card so it can't be lack of space.
What is causing this error?
Map loader is no longer supported by Nokia. It is not possible to download, install, and use the Map loader application. Could someone confirm this or post the link to the installation of Map Loader.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHere is the poblem I have since yesterday. If I put my friend's Sim Card in my N900, everything works fine. If I put my own Sim Card into my friend's phone, everything also works fine. If I put my own sim card into my N900, and try to make call immediate after the screen boots up (icons are slow then, still loading), then it also works fine.
However if my N900 properly boots up, then I cannot make calls at all. Setting it to offline mode then normal mode will not register with my network and result in Sim Card registration error if I wait long enough. So it seems like my N900 won't take my Sim Card after booting. it will take it during booting, but some process killed it. Can someone help me solve this? I do not remember installing anything since last time it worked.
I've just recieved the N900 (UK on Vodafone) but straight away i've come across and error which means it's going back for a replacement handset - although Vodafone currently struggling to have the N900 in stock! The error is "internal error closing app". My concern now is reading lots of blogs i'm currently concerned that the N900 is not yet ready for the market and perhaps should be looking for something else. Is the phone the way forward?
View 28 Replies View RelatedI find that when the phone is on charge I can never power it on, it simply reboot repeatedly after the logo shows up, it is on V 10.2010.12-9.I also have problem with the USB charging, I can charge the phone with the PC via a standard USB cable, but the same cable doesn't not charge with external battery pack, and I got a special cable that charge both with PC and external battery pack, but it does not do data transfer, so I have to carry 2 cables and spare battery. I also find that, the phone is unable to charge a completely ran down battery, it must be charge on the dock, I think that's why the set comes with a dock charge, other non Nokia USB charging phone also comes with the dock charge (in my region), so I think this is a common problem of USB charging, and the reason may be the charging is s/w controlled, if the battery is dry the phone won't work so no

I am updating my N900 using Nokia Software Updater. It stops at a certain point (at 6.3MB) and then shows error message of slow connectivity.
Inspite of good connectivity, When I try again it resumes from 6.3MB and immediately throws the error. I tried reinstalling NSU but didn't help.Is there any way to clear cache of NSU?
CPW is offering clearance nokia n900's on their webpage for £265.00. ie: 14 day returned handsets. Anyone bought one this way and happy with the condition of it. Im really tempted. I know their are alot of threads/posts on the pro's and con's of this fone/tablet. My question is if you could do a rewind would you still buy this handset ?
