View 8 RepliesAfter using newly updated Nokia Maps 3.8 in N8 for sometime the Compass has been greyed out all the time.Unable to enable it or atleast don't know how to.Also tried to reinstall maps but failed.Compass is working fine with Compass Lite .Having Symbian Anna with all the latest updates in my Mobile.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe compass in my E6, just upgraded to Belle, doesn't work at all in Maps 3.08 (not that it did in Anna, either), but does so just fine in Augmentra's excellent ViewRanger. At least it worked occasionally on the E72.Does the compass need to be deliberately switched on in Maps 3.08 in Belle?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have read somewhere that there is a proceeding to calibrate the magnetic compass on the 5230, and my questions are:
1) The 5230 has a magnetic compass built in it? Where it is documented?
2) It is used in navigation using Ovi Maps? How and when?
3) How I can calibrate it, making the 360 turn, as suggested elsewhere? On what screen/menu is the function selected?
I've the last version of nokia maps, but it happens always that the compass stop to work even if the icon is green and it lets me calibrate, also with other compass apps it happens.

View 25 Replies View RelatedNokia OVI Maps - Free Navigation
Mobile navigation for everyone, the Ovi Maps takes you where you want to be and shows you what you want see, with navigable maps for over 70 countries worldwide. All this with only one click. And it's all free.
- Free Drive navigation
- Free Walk navigation
- Free maps and map updates
- Free Events guides
- Free Lonely Planet guides
- Free Michelin guides
You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

Will Ovi Map 3.03 be compatible with the E71? Right now it isn't.
View 419 Replies View RelatedI am happy to annouce that Ovi Maps 3.03 is now available for the N97. To get Free Navigation on your device please take the following steps:
1) Check that you have the latest N97 FW: 20.0.019. Learn how to check your current version and update at www.nokia.com/softwareupdate?n97
2)Once you have this firmware, you can go to Software Update on your device and the new version will appear for download. You should also be prompted as you open the Maps application on your device (online connection required).
Why is the nokia free navigation not available on the n96. i understand its not available on the n97 due to the FW having bugs but that is being resolved, Does anyone no when it will be available for the n96 I dont pretend to know everything like some people on these boards i am just trying to help. Its not all about the kudos.
View 28 Replies View Relatedwill the new Ovi Maps Free Navigation be available for E66 ?anyone knows? or if we can install it somehow anyway.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased the new N900 phone. First impression is it looks very good and works well, BUT still lacking the key features of the N96 such as:
Ovi Maps does not provide voice navigation. Java is not supported so such brilliant apps such as the Opera browsers can not be installed onto it. PC suite is not yet available it the phone. So at first glance it is a great phone that could match the IPhone, but more work needs to be done to it to make it the all singing and dancing phone that Nokia needs it to be. If i am wrong on these points could someone point me in the right direction of addressing them
Now I know this has been a frustration for many users. Nokia ovi maps 3.0.3 is not widely compatible with a lot of phones with exceptions being the newest models. Free navigation is not available on the older version of maps, so either free licenses need to be available on the older maps or the new version must become compatible. I know nokia have said they are working on this, but is there any timescale? I could do with having navigation on my phone a.s.a.p really.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMaps 3.03 for the N97 is going to be available from the 28th Jan 2010 via the IAD (also known as Software Update). Users of the N97 are advised to update their firmware after release, which will then make the Ovi Maps 3.03 application available for download. Although I work for Nokia, my opinions are my own! Got a Maps query? Check our Maps FAQs?
View 109 Replies View RelatedI just downloaded the newest Maps version from here: (http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download?intc=ncomsup...), installed it on my phone (Nokia N95 8GB, up to date firmware, up to date Ovi Suite and PC Suite). And when i selected the drive to option the software asked me to renew the license O.o. Isn't navigation supposed to be free? How can I take care of this problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an N85 and got the latest Ovi Maps for my phone. On the ovi website it is advertising free voice guided navigation for life, but my application keeps asking me to purchase a license.I am confused , do I have the wrong version? What do I need to do to take advantage of the free navigation as advertised?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI Got a Nokia 6220 Classic and I can't download free version of Ovi maps. Why? When will I be able to download it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI came to know that we can use OVI Maps in Offline in N900 from the below url
http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/maps/. But it asks a connection to proceed and search in OVI Maps doesn't work well. As well the locations are not auto populated. guide me to use OVI Maps effectively in offline in N900.
FYI, I downloaded the required maps in to my N900 using Nokia OVI Suite
I have a Nokia 5800 Nav Edition. I just upgraded to the new 3.03 Ovi maps. Does Ovi Maps speak out street names in the route navigation?? For me it just says "Turn right in 1 mile" .. no street name! It would be very helpful if this feature was included. Am I missing something on how to enable text to speech so that it speaks street names?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe inbuilt magnetometer on my phone seems to have developed issues. It does not work in maps. It is always greyed . In fact it should be aligned in The direction of The travel. It is always stuck at north at top. Is this a hardware issue or can it be sorted out by software reinstall?EVEN THE OTHER COMPASS APPS DONT WORK. I have downloaded compass touch from Nokia store. Anyone else with same issue? And yes, I had performed a hard reset (*#7370#) after belle refresh. Not sure whether this issue came up after this or it was there before.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe compass is not working on my Nokia C6-01.I cant calibrate it. Even other compass apps dont work. Nokia care staff reinstalled firmware, but the issue was not solved. They said it is a sensor issue and they will check whether this is in touch panel or the board itself. I just want to know whether sensor has any role to play in a compass. The Nokia care staff has no idea of what a compass is and how it works. He didnt understand the exact problem even after I showed it. I had to grab another similar phone and showed him how it works or should work. I am fed up with the failure of Nokia phones within a year or so. This is my 3rd handset in row to have developed issues. Seems better to move on to other phones.
View 10 Replies View RelatedEast and west are completely reversed, no matter how much I try to calibrate the phone. For example, if I'm facing north (which the compass recognizes) and turn to the right to face east, the compass actually turns to the left to point west...and vice versa. No problems whatsoever with north and south....just a 180degree reversal of east and west.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy iPhone a few years ago was capable of this and it made navigating any direction that was not north much easier.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHow do i enable the compass in maps?Where when i turn the phone, the map view turn aswell?
View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday I installed the new free Ovi Maps and managed to download some maps and voice guidance files onto it as well. Yay for the free new gadget. But somehow my compass doesn't seem to work anymore. Or rather, it stays white and I don't see the map tilt. With the previous version I would just move the phone along all axis for a few seconds and it would turn from white to yellow to green (as described in the manual). Here, nothing happens, no matter how long or how often I turn and twist the thing. Is there a different way to do it in the new Ovi Maps? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug? If so, am I the only one with it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just made the upgraded and I'm very disappointed because compass is no longer supported in this new release!
View 14 Replies View RelatedI made the mistake of *upgrading* on the 6710 Bug 1. IT makes a horrible beeping noise after a while, sounds distorted.Bug 2. Maybe not a bug, but how do you put in an address to someones house? Still wondering probably awkwardly Compass Support on Ovi Maps 3.3 where has it gone? 6210, 6710, N97, and all the other Navigator Editions with compass support, it's gone vanished, now i have issues tracking down the old version to install.btw. i spent 25 minutes on the phone to nokia care, and it took me 12 calls to get through after the first 3 telephone numbers i got given has been disconnected.been a lousy day for me dealing with Nokia.
View 26 Replies View RelatedI have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?
